We're East Coasters. We bought 80 points with the idea that we'll make a big California trip every 3 years. We may have bought more points than we need, but we figure we can always use the extra points on the East Coast if necessary. No regrets and we don't even have a West Coast trip planned yet.
We purchased our add-on points the second day sales were open, but due to some paperwork errors we're just now closing. Maybe there were similar issues on other contracts.
So much this. ☝️ We were able to book a 1BR Villa at GCV last summer. Honestly, we weren't that impressed. I'm starting to wonder if we're the only people who prefer the Disneyland Hotel to the Grand Californian. We thought the layout at the Grand Californian was odd and the pool was so crowded...
We're East Coasters, so the airfare is a big investment for us. Our plan is to go once every three years for at least a week and purchase 5 day tickets. We would possibly consider grouping two trips within 12 months if annual passes were less expensive.
But that's the thing not every DVC or Disney property appeals to everyone. We stayed at the GCV last summer and it was okay, but I was underwhelmed and my family prefers the Disneyland Hotel. Why would I use so many points to stay at the Riviera when I can get a room at the Beach Club or...
Except that GCV is really hard to book if you don't own there and getting a resale contract isn't easy either. Unless you already own at GCV there isn't another viable option. It really comes down to how important staying onsite is to someone.
I figure that even if we added on at different resort, we would still use them at DL every three years and pay the taxes anyway. We might as well buy where we want to stay,
We're East Coasters, but are planning to buy a small contract with enough points to stay at VDH for one week every 3 years. Unlike most, we prefer the DLH to GCV. Since staying onsite is important to us, we think it's still worth it.
I understand that the time between refurbishments is longer for DVC resorts. It wasn't just the "drab" rooms. The carpet was wet when we arrived and I spent over an hour on the phone trying to talk to someone about it. The pool area was so over-crowded that it was impossible to get a seat. We...
We were also less than impressed with our stay at VGC over the summer, but I'm not sure that Disney is willing to put out a points chart that implies that the Grand Californian isn't the flagship resort at Disneyland.
I think we might be the exception. We stayed in 1 BR villa at VGC on our last trip and weren't that impressed. It was almost impossible to get a chair at the pool too. We definitely prefer the Disneyland Hotel.
I wonder how many people will be looking to buy large contracts. We're East Coasters, so we're only planning to buy a small add-on contract so we can visit once every three years.
Visiting Disneyland is a little different. It doesn't have the isolated resort feel that WDW has. There are plenty of hotels within walking distance that are much cheaper than the three onsite hotels. Some are even closer than the Disneyland Hotel. It makes calculating value for DVC at...
