‘Tron-orail’ divides Disney faithful

Hey everyone! I think the monorail looks great myself! Just curious, does anyone know which monorail "color" they converted to the "Tronorail?" Thanks!

Monorail Coral is the Tronorail

Monorail Coral as "Tronorail Blue"

Monorail Gold as "Tronorail" Yellow

Monorail coral is currently the only one that has the Tron wrap on. One side is blue and the other is yellow. They have not finished another monorail with the wrap on it yet.

It's horrible. They might as well go ahead and start putting ABC and ESPN logos on the sides of the Monorails. Maybe they can figure out a way to put lighted bill boards on the sides of the Monorails, where business can buy advertisement, like city buses. Besides all of that, it's just ugly, plain and simple.

And this statement is exactly why I pointed out all of this...
Disney is one big advertisement for itself. Rides advertise the movies they're based off of; billboards advertise the rides; firework, attractions and eateries advertise the companies that sponsor them; there are ads inside the buses advertising parks, DTD, tv shows, music and movies; DVC advertisements are everywhere; the resort channels advertise what's available in the parks and DVC; the castle has changed looks to advertise certain events (Stitch ride, the birthday cake, certain looks for the holidays)...and the amount of gift shops...

This is just another form of advertisement. One can't complain about the commercialism of it when they're going to the most commercialized travel destination.

It's one thing to not care for the design or prefer the classic look. But if you're going to complain about such big marketing/advertising, exactly why do you even go to Disney?

Ah, you're right...... I think Monorail Gold is the other one that will be (if not already) wrapped.

The film they use for ads that cover windows has lots of perforations in it allowing light in and a somewhat dimmer (but fairly comprehensive) view out. It's like the stuff cities have on their buses...

That's what I was afraid of. I've chosen to walk rather than ride my city's one 100% wrapped bus because it's so depressing. Those perforations just don't work.

I think it is ugly and tacky and am glad they've limited it to Epcot and that there's just the one.

It isn't the worst thing they ever did, but it's up there.

Ugh.

It looks awesome however I wish all this buzz on 3-D would end; not every movie needs to be in 3-D. I enjoyed the original and it wasn't 3-D.

I think the "Tronorail" looks great and can't wait to see it when we go in a couple weeks.....it really reminds me of the monorail in Las Vegas when they had it decorated to promote the "Star Trek" exhibit at the Hilton there.....I think the Disney Imagineers did a really good job capturing the movie on the monorail.

I don't hate it, but certainly don't love it either, but I'm not a Tron fan, so maybe I'd feel differently if I was. And since it's only two monorails and only on the EPCOT loop, it's not like I'm being bombarded by it everywhere I go. As long as they don't make a habit of it, I'm okay with it. Personally I was more irritated by the Princess and the Frog area at Flower and Garden. Cardboard cutouts of the characters :scared1: with a lovely sign telling me it's now on DVD :sad2: Maybe if they were nice topiaries I could have overlooked the the ad. At least the monorail looks cool, this was just sad.

We just got home and monorail purple (I am SURE of this because I saw the stripe) was wrapped. My bet is the other one is monorail pink (I never got on this one last week after I noticed you could see the stripe through the wrap).

Monorail gold was taken out of service one day at the MK last week as we were the last ones to get off and they announced it. Whether it was actually being taken to be wrapped or just serviced, I don't know. I do know that we never saw it again last week before we left Saturday.

It only logical that purple and pink could not actually be "retired" but had to continue to be in service. Let us not forget that this is more than an advertisement. It was a way to pay tribute yet still keep the monorails in full service. Sometimes, there is more than one motive. ;)

i'm just thankful that it isn't all of the trains. there is something about seeing the clean monorail sliding across the tracks that appeals to me. i like them without anything on them at all.

Monorail Purple and Pink were turned into Monorail Teal after the accident. Thoes colors are retired and will never be used again. I rode on Monorail Gold on Friday and there were no signs that it was being wrapped. Monorail Coral is currently the only "Tron" Monorail.

I assure you that I saw a purple stripe under the wrap between cars. Not going to argue this with you but my wife saw it too. We didn't make a big deal of it because there were monorail CMs standing around and we were at THE dock at the TTC and we didn't want to bring back those emotions with the CMs.

I know what I saw.

Not here to argue, just to get the facts out. A quote from the Orlando Sentinel:

"Walt Disney World has built a new monorail train using the undamaged remains of two trains that collided in a deadly accident over the summer.

The new train is expected to go into service later this fall.

It will be painted with a teal stripe to distinguish it from the resort's other trains, each of which have a unique color. Disney said the colors pink and purple -- the colors of the two trains involved in the collision -- will be retired out of respect for employees following the first fatal accident in the Disney World monorail's 38-year history."

I really like it! My DS said "WHOAAAAAAAA!!!!":thumbsup2 Agreed w/ the others. Disney is ALL advertisement. It doesn't bother me a bit. I hope we're lucky enough to ride it. :lovestruc

Edit: I just saw the other photo from TTB w/ the gardens too. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT PHOTOS!!!!!!

:rotfl:
Here is the yellow side of the monorail. Gives you an idea how it goes with Flower and Garden Festival.:lmao:

TTB. Can I post this photo on my FB page w/ credit given to you??? It's SO COOL!

(Of course, I liked the cake castel too so..... :rolleyes1 :rotfl: )
I proudly drive around w/ Disney advertised on my car too. I'd much rather advertise willingly for them as opposed to a radio station or a stupid grocery store.
