Although it may vary slightly by season, in August African Folktales was at 6:15pm at the Arusha Rock Fire Pit (only once per night). I think the latest I have seen it start is 6:45pm.

Around 8pm is the Primal Parade where the kids parade around the lobby playing African instruments -- it's adorable! :cloud9:

Kidani has a Campfire at the Pembe Savanna Overlook from about 5-8pm. A guide is there to talk with guests about the animals, or their home country.

:thumbsup2

Thank you so much for the information. I had not read about the parade before, that would certainly be right up my DDs alley, I appreciate you taking the time to share.

You're very welcome - I am happy to do it! You and your girls will have a wonderful, magical time! :cloud9:

dato63 The campfire at Pembe IS the best place ever.....We have taken a glass of wine from the bar at Sanaa and enjoyed the evening. And the guides are awesome, full of information, and so interesting hearing about their backgrounds and families!!!'
They often are away from their children for long periods of time:( I usually try to get a pic of one with my little one:)

Awww, sweet memories! :cloud9:

It really is amazing though the sacrifices these men and women make in order to provide a better life for their families. Bless them.

Come on Jambo Wild Bunch, Jamborini's and Kidanites......!!!!! Lets gooooooooooooo!!

What a great looking couple! You can't hide it - Disney is written all over your faces! I had no doubts you'd make the gate, but to do so time to spare... I'm in awe of your packing skills! (or ... should we wait to find out how many items you missed and have to purchase down there ;))

... and the rides start early :rotfl:

not a single item missed and maybe way too much packed.... I have been working on our "list" for years... So we each had a backpack and one suitcase...:scared1:

Hi everyone! I'm back after 2 weeks on vacation, the majority of it at AKV. I ended up driving to WDW this time and really enjoyed the drive. My niece and I had a great time with only a few conflicts. :rotfl2: (12 almost 13 year old girl, need I say more?)

Most of our stay was at concierge level and we really enjoyed it. I did notice that there are less offerings than a couple of years ago but we still loved it. We did the sunrise safari which was awesome!

OK, so what did I miss in 2+ weeks of posts? I think that I saw that Laura is injured and that Kim may be back? I know that I missed more, but to be honest reading 10+ pages of posts is intimidating.

Glad you had a wonderful trip and I love :lovestruc the sunrise safari. Again glad you had a good trip.

We are on day #3 of rain in MA. No flooding in my area and I live on the side of a cliff so I am safe;)

2 weeks from now I will be leaving my family and taking my mother to AKV for her first stay on property and my first DVC stay at AKV (my home resort). The only other time my mom has gone was when I was 16 and we stayed at the Holiday Inn (ICK!!!). I am thinking she will love the pampering and spoiling that staying on property gives! I cannot wait!! My little cherubs have been horrible lately and driving me up a wall so sad to say I will love the break away and feel kinda bad for my DH having to watch them (Kinda....now he will know what my day is like everyday!!:lmao:)

Just praying that I will be blessed with beautiful Florida sun!!!!

I hear you! I am sick to death of this rain!:scared1:
Have a great trip and Welcome Home!:thumbsup2

AND - I got some EXCITING news yesterday - As many of you know, BOTH of our sons are expecting - - my older son and dil found out yesterday they are having a BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY - we are thrilled - we all were hoping for a boy!!!

I am so excited for you, what wonderful news!

:wave2: We made it back, and are trying to stay awake....

Welcome back!:goodvibes

We're baaaack! and we had a great trip. Bob was a Super Hero and accomplished so many things I wasn't sure he could do. I have not qualms about traveling with him again!

The earthquake was centered about 30 minutes from out house here in Virginia. Out younger daughter came over to do a quick check of the house and the dog and all seemed fine. Bob and I checked again when we got home and we don't see any structural damage. There were books off the shelves, things off the mantle, lampshades cockeyed and pictures askew. But nothing appears to be broken. We did not feel it in Boston, but we were in a low building. Older daughter felt it in her office at BU and SIL felt it in her office too.

There are broken gas lines in town and some damage. Areas around us, including DC fared much worse, oddly enough. I am glad we weren't here!

Elin,

Glad your trip was so good, and happy to hear that your assessment of the damage was very similar to mine, now we did not get to see it until today but same sort of reactions here.

So Brandi leaves the country and we get earthquakes and now hurricanes:confused:

:yay::yay::yay:

So I have to tell you that my DH and I were in the Caribbean in Feb of 2010 for two weeks we had planned this trip over a year before, and that was the back to back blizzard that hit the DC area, my son told me today that we are not allowed to leave the country anymore....:rolleyes1

One more question - I read on another thread that the bees and wasps were terrible at Kidani. Do I have to worry about that in October? I'll be really mad if I keep the reservation and then we can't even use the balcony!

....saw-ry, can't answer this one [I've never stayed there in October :confused3 ] ....hmmm, actually, this is the first time I've ever heard about this particular problem...you might want to try calling AKL directly and speaking to them about your concerns....

We have stayed there the last two Octobers and never had any problem, honestly I don't remember seeing any of them

Warning.... this has NOTHING to do with AKL/AKV...

I have to post something before I explode... it will seem odd, but bear with me.

Bob burped today.

I told you it would seem odd. However, here is why I am excited: in order for a person to belch, the Upper Esophageal Sphincter (UES)has to open. The noise you hear is the vibration of that sphincter as air passes through it. The reason Bob cannot eat is that the UES is closed all the time. Or, it was.

Oh Elin that is wonderful! Give Bob a big ole high five from us!:woohoo:

I am so pleasantly surprised! :goodvibes

Last time we had discussed it, DD (Tori) wasn't terribly enthusiastic about the Disney College Program anymore. :sad1:

Yesterday afternoon, out of the blue, she texted that she was applying online for the CP!

This morning when I checked FB, she had sent me a message overnight that she has a phone interview with them! :yay:

I don't know how prepared she is for this interview, but I'm just happy that that little spark has been re-ignited! :cloud9:

I keep my fingers crossed for her. Two people I know did the ICP this summer and had a wonderful time. They both worked at Hollywood Studios, one in merchandising and the other at Honey, I Shrunk The Kids.

:wave2: We made it back, and are trying to stay awake....

Welcome back.

Corinna
