Passport- one way cruise to San Juan

Thank you for the update. We have cruised with DCL since 2005 with only DL/BC. This now confirms we can branch out and take a different kind of cruise. Of course I would always double check before I booked.

My daughter just flew to PR without a passport.

You don't need one to fly directly there because it is a U.S territory but the OP was talking about a cruise, it's a different animal hence the confusion

Also every time we got off in three Bahamas they told us to have the key to world card/band and ID- but they never actually looked at the ID. We didn't get off the boat in Nassau. Only the Disney islands.

I can fly from NYC to NOLA with just ID but if I take a cruise between those 2 cities a passport is required. Cruising has different rules than flying.

The OP's cruise docked in the Bahamas, which is NOT a US territory. Cruises cannot ONLY include US ports, they must make a foreign port stop.

Castaway Cove is in the Bahamas, not WDW. Cruisers need whatever documentation is required by the country. DCL is required to verify the documents and file it.

The fact that you don't have to show your documentation or go through customs is irrelevant.

Staying on the ship isn't an option. The ship can't leave international waters unless everyone has the proper documentation.

Lanejudy already commented but this wasn't the case, the OP's question was because there are certain somewhat contradictory verbiage regarding the particular route as it has some exceptions etc. However I quoted your comment about your daughter flying to Puerto Rico without a passport. That is indeed totally fine (we did it ourselves in 2023) but it was super straightforward scenario pertaining to air travel directly between continental U.S and a territory of the U.S rather than the cruising one of the OP (and their update).
