Post all SW questions concerns, etc. here...

OK, all done, time to parent.

Interestingly, I must be booking low demand flights because my redemption value was high. 10,000 points for a $171 flight in both direction. If you pull of the $6 in taxes, $165 for 10,000 points is a 1.65.

These prices are crazy for my route - lowest is $381 for Wanna Get Away! I'll be keeping an eye on it until 5/28 I guess, but otherwise I'm just going to book with another carrier for that price, even though our departing flight is with Southwest.

What is the cost on one of the legacy airlines? If the price is better, why wouldn't you book with another airline now?

Fair point. For almost the exact same flight time, I could book Main @ AA for $254 right now, but I'll have to pay for bags. I guess since I have a little time I'm hoping the Southwest price might drop so I can get one last trip with the free bags.

Personally, I'd look for a couple weeks and then buy the AA flight. I don't think there will be big drops to flights until after 5/28 for flights that opened up today. $35 is more than covered by the $117 in fare difference. And I've always preferred a legacy over SW if the prices and routes are equal.

If cancelled, yes, you get the points back. What's unclear is if the lowest ticket type will still have the option to go change a flight, pick the exact flight you're on, and just get the points refunded, the way the current system works. Or, if you see that the flight two hours later suddenly dropped, you change your schedule a bit, grab that one, and get points back. Since that ticket type isn't eligible for changes, only cancellations, it seems unlikely.

The Basic fare ticket specifically says No Changes. If you intend to look for price drops, you probably shouldn’t book that ticket. Because yes, it seems you’d have to cancel & rebook.

What isn't clear to me (yet) is if rebooking for the same flights will be considered a change. I know that I've taken advantage of sales and changed my fare for a cheaper one at a better time- with a fare that wasn't the cheapest when I booked but is cheaper with the sale. Different flight numbers, different time of day, sometimes even different connecting city than what was originally booked; that's definitely a change, to me. However, if I am keeping the same, identical itinerary, would that be considered a change? That's what I need clarified.

I booked the airfare for my November solo trip (3rd-8th) just now. Prices are pretty high, for my route, about 33K points total. However, that's about the "price" I paid for our upcoming May trip (36 days to go, WAHOO!!) when I purchased back in Nov. 2024, but I've since rebooked the same flights for less than half the cost. I'm hoping that happens with these flights, too. Overall, I am not too worried about the price: First, I'm paying with points, and second, if the ability to rebook without charge isn't available after 5/28, our days as SW customers are probably numbered, so I'm not as concerned with banking points. It's a 2+ hour drive to the nearest SW airport, and why do that when I have points with Delta and American, and can fly from the airport that is 15 minutes from my house?

I expected my flights over the holidays to be expensive, but Wanna Get Away is currently showing as $534-584 one way. Looking at over $1000 per person round trip. I haven't booked yet because I am not sure what to do with that - it is insane.

You're actually questioning whether rebooking is a change? When you go to "rebook" what is written on the link that you click to do so? "Change" is the name of the link. Anytime you initiate changing something on the itinerary, it is a change. Which will not be allowed with Basic fares after 5/28.
As has been covered, you'll be able to cancel and rebook basic fares, but you will lose any EBCI seat selection fees paid. And if you purchased prior to 5/28, after 5/28 you would lose baggage benefits.

More surprised there’s another release scheduled on May 8 for travel dates through January 26.

Figured they’d just hold everything till May 28
Thought the same thing. Although, they're only pushing out an additional 3 weeks of flights at the time, so the combination of changes coming May 28 and the expectation of assigned seats in 2026 is going to make the next release interesting. SW used to be the simplest airline to book and fly. At this point, they might be the most uncertain.

My internet went out a couple of minutes after 7. I wasted time trying to figure out what was wrong. I had to use celluar data. By this time it was 7:21. The prices are ridiculously high to BWI to MCO (total 48000)and BWI to ISP (total 37500 points) anytime fare. I think they are near double what I paid in 2024. Thank goodness we have a companion fare. Were they lower when first dropped?

Exactly one non-stop flight from Indy to Hobby/Houston on the Sunday before Thanksgiving for our DCL cruise out of Galveston, and it's at 6:05 pm with a 7:45 p.m. arrival.

I laughed out loud and booked United Airlines instead on a non-stop into IAH Houston and leaving at a reasonable 11:47 a.m.

Yeah, I also assumed next drop would be totally under the new rules, including assigned seats.

I wonder if they're going to eek out flights until they're ready to cut over to assigned seating. Perhaps the goal was to do that with the next drop but they know the planes won't be ready in time so they're buying themselves another couple of weeks.

Question about Anytime fares....
I booked an Anytime flight a few weeks ago and may have to cancel one (if we earn companion pass by then), but we will be canceling after May 28. Since I purchased before the new rules go into effect, will that fare be refundable or will I get a travel credit?

Pre-5/28 = old rules, refundable.

If you purchased it with cash, then it would be refundable under either rules. The travel credit expiring in 12 months would be for those flights purchased with LUV vouchers, price drops or if you choose to get a travel credit rather than refund.
