Disney Dream Oct 31, 2016

Hello All! My family and I just booked our first ever Disney cruise! We are beyond excited for this family vacation! c'mon 10/31!!!!!
I do have a question, my family and I would like to participate in the fish extenders but I can't seem to find much information on how to get started? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sue2aT- Welcome! A few of us here are RNs!!

We also have a private FB page for this cruise. You can have your daughter request to join. We have our FE list there.

Can you send me the link to the FB group? I would love to join the FE list :)

Hi everyone! This seems to be the :cake:Birthday:cake: Cruise! My daughter will be turning 16 on Nov. 2 and she wanted a Disney Cruise for her Sweet 16th!! I was like ABSOLUTELY!:rolleyes1 Tnkrbelle81, I'm a L&D nurse too at UVA in Charlottesville.:lovestruc I am so stinkin' excited for this trip since this will be our very first cruise ever! pixiedust:

How random! I just moved from Charlottesville (not by choice - I love it there) I'm sure you have seen several of my friends in L&D :) and I have a couole Nurse friends that have either worked at UVA or Martha Jeff - small world ;-)

Another family added to the Halloween Sailing! Our first cruise, and first trip to anything Disney for my husband and both kids (who will be 5 and 2 at sailing). Hi All! As our cruise nears, I was just wondering if there is any information on the FE planning? This is my first cruise and wanted to get as much information as possible? It may be to early to be asking =)

It appears there's no Fish Extender group set up here on DISboards for this cruise. There may be FE groups on other sites, but they are not DISboards connected, and links or search directions to those are not allowed.

Unless someone here on DISboards steps up to say "I'll maintain the list" there will be no FE group here.

In case anyone is interested in how to set up a FE group:

SETTING UP A FE GROUP
It appears there are a number of you who are interested in a Fish Extender group. There isn’t one currently set up here on DISboards. Here’s a little write up on how FE groups are set up:

There really are no “rules” as to how a FE program runs. Basically someone will step up and say “I’ll maintain the list”. This means they maintain the list of those who wish to participate. The group can decide on what information is necessary to produce FE gifts. A basic list may only have DISname/room number/number of people in the room. A more involved list could be first & last names/ages/room number/ favorite character/ favorite color/allergies/whatever is deemed necessary to know in order to create the gifts. Also a decision can be made as to size of FE group. Some groups break out the list(s) at 10-15 rooms max, so that there are multiple lists (and some people will participate in more than one list). Other groups just make one big list (upwards of 20-30 rooms).

The easiest, most private way to handle the information necessary to prepare the list (many people prefer not to put sensitive information on a public forum), is to use the “Conversation” feature here. There needs to be at least two people to start a conversation. Only the starter of the conversation (usually the organizer) can add additional people into the conversation (as long as they do NOT select “Allow anyone in the conversation to invite others” at the bottom of the reply window). Then when new people express a desire to join, usually by just saying “we want to join the FE”, the organizer can add them by clicking on the “Invite more” button in the “Conversation Participants” window (lower right of conversation page). Only those people participating in the conversation can see what’s posted there, and respond there. I will also note, to participate in conversations, everyone needs to have at least 10 posts. For those who wish to use this option for private conversations that don’t have 10 posts yet, head over to the Test Board to post and up your post count. http://www.disboards.com/forums/test-board.88/

Up to 20 people can participate in any given conversation.

At some point the list will “close”. Typically this happens 30-45 days out from the cruise, so that everyone participating has time to organize/prepare their gifts. Shortly before this time (about 2-3 weeks prior) the organizer will post the list, either directly on the Cruise Meet thread, OR via private conversation, or, possibly, via e-mails. This is to confirm everyone on the list is still participating. It’s important to make a statement about “anyone not confirming by XX date will be dropped” at this time. A little harsh, yes, but often there are people who will post on the cruise meet thread as soon as they reserve the cruise and say “I want to participate”, and are never heard from again.

Once the list closes, the organizer will post the final list. Also, a decision must be made as to whether to allow late additions. Sometimes there is a “pixie dust” list. That is, basically, a latecomers list that gets posted about a week out from the cruise that others may or may not add to their “final” list. Be sure the “pixie dust” list participants realize they may or may not get gifts from others, but are expected to provide gifts for the other FE participants anyway.

The other “biggie” is no other social media sites are allowed to be linked or search directions posted as to how to find that other site here on DISboards. Please read this: http://www.disboards.com/threads/im...uise-meet-and-fish-extender-programs.3353477/

As it seems there are a few here on your cruise meet thread who would be interested in doing this, who’s going to step up and volunteer to maintain the list?

It's hard to answer that question without violating the terms of this thread--There is someone in charge of the FE group already and has 3 groups of ten set up so far.

The point being, there's no FE group here on DISboards. Yes, there may be FE groups on other sites, but they are not DISboards connected.

There's no reason that someone can't belong to more than one FE group (on more than one site).

Hi! Just booked! Me, my husband, and our 9-year old son. Our first Disney cruise! Whoop!

Question about transportation: We are staying two nights before the cruise at the Caribbean Beach Resort. Would it be better to arrange our own transportation from the resort to the port for the morning of the 31st, or is utilizing Disney's transportation ok? (I already booked Disney transfer) I've heard if you use Disney, you don't get to the port until really late, like 3:00...yikes! Thoughts? Does it matter? Thanks!

Can't wait until October!

Hello. Welcome to the Disboards. I just wanted to let you know that you have really limited your potential responses by posting your question here. Most people on here are set to cruise on Oct. 31st 2016 and many have never even cruised with Disney before. We usually prefer to have the earliest PAT possible and get on board to start enjoying it. You should post your question at the following link for more responses: http://www.disboards.com/forums/disney-cruise-line-forum.9/ Have a GREAT cruise.:sail:

Hello! My family (4 year old daughter and husband) are sailing on our first cruise in celebration on my 30th birthday! We're super excited, we're also going to be staying at Pop Century for 4 days prior to our cruise and attending MNSSHP on the 30th.

Yay! I can't wait. How exciting for your first cruise to be on Disney! Your spoiling yourself!

I can definitely organize an FE closer to the date. About 6 months before we can really work on it!

Hello, I will be on this cruise as well and it will be my first ever. I have become slightly obsessed over researching as much as I can and when I read about the FE I wanted to see how I can participate with other families. Have you by chance started to organize an FE? I apologize if I am missing it; I am not very comfortable using this site, I just noticed your offer to start an FE 6 months prior and was curious as to if it was started or not. Thanks in advance!

Hello to all the newcomers!!

MarcyRene- I don't remember what time we arrived at port. We werent the last but def not the first.

Carie-- lots of bdays on the cruise! Mine is the 1st! And I think we will be going to MNSSHP either on the 29 or 30.

Can't wait!!!

Okay, just booked on the Oct 31 2016 cruise on the Dream, how do we get involved in the Fish Extender fun? This is our 3rd cruise and didn't know how to get involved. HELP?!

Is it too late to get involved?

Hi there! We stayed at the same hotel in December and had the Disney transfer to Port Canaveral. It really depends on the schedule, but we were picked up by 11am and reached the port with no problems. Easy peasy. I can tell you this, they pick up your baggage the night before and if you are going back to the hotel after the cruise like we did, they wil hold any baggage you don't want to take with. If you arrange your own transportation, you have to lug your own baggage and you run the risk of being late or it costing more. Stick with Disney, it's seamless.
