cruise ducks

I'm not surprised that Disney has made that call. l know that they don't allow any items to be left lying around their parks due to it not being approved Disney theming. The same could be said for random plastic ducks sitting around on cruise ships.
This. Plus didn't someone post a video on here about a grown woman going through greenery on the ship like a velociraptor to get one?

I don't consider it to be an official website
Okay I guess. But Disney and everyone else does consider it to be an official Disney site. Not to mention I have called twice and chatted a few times with Disney directly and they gave me the same information they gave Plan Disney. Just because you want to do something it doesn't mean that it is perfectly fine to do.

It is not under the prohibited items list because you can still bring ducks onboard and put them in fish extenders. 😒
Also, another reason DCL would not ban them is that you can bring ducks onboard as bath toys. Most of the rooms do have bathtubs and rubber ducks are a popular/common bath time toy. In addition, there are computer programmers or people in related fields who may (unfortunately) need to get work done and rubber ducks are often part of their workflow/process.

I hand give them
I like to randomly hand them out so I don’t go against any law
The joy it gives little ones ( and I even had adult asking for one ) is as fun for me as it is for them
I don’t only bring rubber ducks
But rubber duck mini notepad and pen
Rubber duck keychain
Rubber duck tote ….

Life-long learning is important, and looking up what you were referring to taught me something new today. Now I just have to ask my son, who is a full-stack software developer, if he does this!

I've heard of cruise duck scams that go something like: "I left my ducks at home for the last cruise. Just pay me postage and I'll ship the ducks to you for your cruise. Please pay via sending gift cards."

As you may have guessed, the ducks never arrive in the mail after sending the gift cards.

I've spoken to so many cast members about this and they always say the same - if it wasn't allowed, they'd be on the prohibited list. As long as they're not left in shops, around the pool area and in bathroom, it's fine.
You're always going to get difference of opinion and how clear the "rules" need to be but until it's in black and white on their website to say prohibited, then they're allowed

if that's the case, it would be under the prohibited items on the DCL website

The prohibited item list regulates what can be brought on the ship, not the conduct/activities of guests on the ship. You can bring ducks on board and pixie dust them or use them as a bath toy--the item itself is not prohibited. But hiding ducks around the ship is not allowed. You also won't find anything on the prohibited item list about the rules against saving seats in the theaters, but the rule is clearly stated once you are onboard. Same with the rule against throwing objects overboard.

But to the OP's original question, yes, people still do it all the time. And sadly, they still do it in really stupid ways (e.g., placed on staircases or handicap accessible ramps, or on the outer decks where they could roll into drains, or those itty bitty penny sized ducks that are blatant choking hazards for toddlers).

I have been married to a software architect for 20 years and have never heard of this. I can't wait to ask him about it!!

That's a practice called “rubber duck debugging”. It's taken metaphorically usually. The idea is that expressing verbally a problem (in your head, on by writing a message on a Slack channel) you are facing might let you see things differently, and solve the issue by yourself.

I work in software for ~25 years and I have not yet seen anyone use a real rubber duck though.

Just leaving the Treasure and found 3 . Heard others say they found them too.

We were delighted too. The guy on the last night on the Treasure came out a with a treasure chest and joked about ducks being in there….lol
