I am curious- do any cruise lines send the announcements via text to the app? I cannot figure out why this has not been implemented. It is often very hard to hear the ship announcements (especially if you are at the buffet or people are just talking over it) and it would be so nice to have it pushed out to everyone in the app like messages from guest services are sent. Does any cruise line offer that yet?

Never heard of that. Probably because the Captain's Announcement is usually at a set time each day so if hearing it is a priority for you, you know to be where you can hear it at that time.

Multiple times we have had announcements not at the standard scheduled time- and those are normally more important like rerouting due to a medical evacuation- but it can be impossible to hear them sometimes. The fact that people speak over announcements in public and will not quiet to listen is a pet peeve of mine. It seems like they should have some way to share announcements over the app but I guess not...

On my Treasure cruise, I was trying to listen to announcement about Grand Cayman, there was a storm coming so there was some doubt if we could tender. I was by the eelevator on my floor . As I was trying to listen to the announcement a very noisy smaller child starts yelling on the stairway. I gave the kid a sshh and then I got a how rude from a slowly trailing grandpa.

Unless the rerouting means a missed port or delayed time into a port, there is really no need for everyone on the ship to be informed. Anything of import would be stated over and over and crew would be made aware to convey to you AND it would be repeated at the evening shows at the very least. If it's not repeated over and over, it's not really important to YOUR cruise.

Twice I have been on a ship (Celebrity both times) when there was something like that. The first time we were going to miss Costa Maya due to unrest there and Captain Kate announced it multiple times during the day prior, at the shows, and paper notices were put in our cabins. The second was on Celebrity Summit and on the way back from Bermuda the captain announced multiple times that due to a large cargo ship needing the full channel to exit Bayonne, we were going to be delayed arriving back into port. Again, that was repeated multiple times during the day, was announced before the shows, and a paper announcement was put in our cabins.

Based on the route shown on the cruise globe site for a few of my other cruises we likely had a diversion for some reason, but since it was none of our business as it didn't affect the majority of the passengers no announcement was made.

IMO, a text message even for typical daily stuff would be great to receive because unlike many cruisers DW and I enjoy our cabin/verandah and typically the announcements just can't be heard through our cabin door.

Did they take away having the announcements broadcast over the Bridge View channel on the TV?

DCL did NOT announce multiple times about a reroute and it changes port times for sure and once delayed pirate night fireworks to another night. Not everyone goes to the shows. I feel like you are putting a lot on the guest when this is something that all the cruise lines could easily do.

We have also had the captain come on in the evening (unscheduled) to tell us about rough seas. Again I heard it because I was in a place with fewer guests but if I had been at several locations I would have missed it. Why not just have them sent via the app? Guest can read them if they want, or not. I am curious as to why you think this would be a bad thing?

Even regular messaging on the app doesn't work all the time. If they start sending announcements via the app and they don't go through, people will be just as upset.

As for rough seas? I know I'm on the ocean. I always treat it as if seas could be rough - ALWAYS hold the rail on stairs, etc.

I’ve never had a problem with guest services, pushing a message up through the app and it not coming to me. And the idea that it shouldn’t be offered because it might not work all the time is a little ridiculous. We don’t say well sometimes there are technical issues for the theater shows and then people get upset about not seeing them so there should not be any theater shows on Disney cruises.

I’m glad you are so prepared, but not every person is. Not every person cruises the way you do or is as prepared for all of the announcements. Some of us clearly would not make it as Boy Scouts 😉

I agree it would be nice if they just followed up the announcement with the message in the app.

I mean they send messages about stuff that is way less important all the time. What would the harm be in adding my this?

Holding the hand rails on the stairs has nothing to do with being prepared. It's the same as wearing your seatbelt in the car or on the plane whenever seated. It should be done for your safety regardless of known turbulence.

Okay. I will hold the handle rails at all times, and be in my stateroom with the bridge report left on, and I will make sure to be at all the shows for any announcements... Anything else I need to do on my vacation?

I was just saying it would be lovely if cruise lines started to send out the announcements via the app once they are played for those of us who are not quite as great at cruising as you are.

I think that's a great idea!
I've been known to run out in the hallway to try to catch an announcement here or there. It's easier than finding the clicker, turning the tv on, finding the channel.... :teeth:

We were on this cruise. I was standing in line to enter 1923 for breakfast when the captain came on. Right at that moment the kid in front of us started screaming. I tried to move further into the Royal Hall, but it was useless. We ended up running into the Assistance CD after breakfast and he was able to tell us what was going on regarding tendering to Grand Cayman that day.
