Canadians Traveling to the USA in 2025

We're currently in Tokyo Disney and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a real Disney fix. It's just beyond amazing, so clean, so friendly, so organized and well run! It really reminds me how far downhill the US parks have gone in the last 15 years or so. It was packed for spring break but part of the fun was watching the crowds of young locals all dressed to the nines and having a wonderful time.

And such good value! Less than $100 Cdn for park tickets, $15 for a full meal with a drink, $8 for a beer, $3 for pop. The app and most of the signs have English and lots of CMs speak at least a little. The new Fantasy Springs area in Disney Sea is probably the best theme park land I've ever visited. We're doing lots of other things while in Japan, but if I was just going for Disney I could probably make the difference in plane ticket prices from Vancouver to Florida vs Tokyo in about 4-5 days in the parks. We're planning to try a trip to Hong Kong and Shanghai in a couple of years as well.

I remember back to the 80's and early 90's, when the US seemed so far ahead of us and it was so big and shiny to visit as a small town Canadian kid. These days it really feels like the Europe and Asia are moving forward in development and our southern neighbours are regressing. While there are many amazing places and most people are still wonderful, it really feels like the US gets angrier, shabbier and more expensive every year. Perhaps these latest events will give Canada the push it needs to pursue long term partnerships with other countries whose leaders respect our country.
I would love love love a trip report when you got back if you had time! My adult kids and my husband would love a Japan trip. I wouldn’t know where to even begin to plan one but I think it would be so fun.

Adam Hattan has done a VLOG series on Tokyo Disney you might find interesting, I know I did. He has some really good information and tips. It does look amazing. He leaves from the UK but everything else going forward is pretty much as it would be.

Agreed! I just looked at flights from Toronto and it would cost over 20k for 4 of us. I wish it were more affordable lol

You must be trying to book first class? I just checked Air Canada and round trip in Toronto to Tokyo in October would be $1800 per person in economy, or $7200 for a family of 4.

We are going in June but flying into Seoul and our of Tokyo. We are doing a cruise and spending time in Tokyo afterwards. We spent just under $8000 from Vancouver for a family of 4 so roughly the same as you posted. Air Canada Economy.

Last week we cancelled our May 7-night DVC trip (2 bedroom theme park view at BLT).
Was planning that for a long time 🤷🏼‍♂️
My university age daughter and her friends cancelled their trip to Chicago for st. Patrick’s day.

We’re going to Jamaica instead.
Looks like I might have 4 years of renting DVC points ahead of me 😂

We usually do a couple of weekend trips to Buffalo and Erie not this year. I wonder how the day trips to the US will work out? Collect tariffs at the border?

The Americans don't give a flying fig about you taking things out of the country. But the Canadian government has said that they have told front line agents to enforce all de minimis thresholds and any further tariffs.

February border crossings (land only) were down about 500,000 people year over year. Lots of border mayors on the American side saying it is a struggle now.

I am sure the Canadian government does not want people to cross border shop.

I’m nowhere near the border so the cross-border shopping thing does not impact. Will be interesting to see what it’s like going thru customs at the airport. I’ll find out in a couple weeks. (Although I have Nexus so it’s generally barely a peep out of them)

With YVR as a starting airport it is a bit harder (its hard for YYZ) when it comes to Central and South America travel. If you are looking for Mexico without the resort trappings Merida, Monterrey and Guadalajara are options. Would require a transit of some kind but doable. If I cannot get World Cup tickets to Toronto I am going to go to Monterrey. No interest in any of the American host cities in summer and Denver did not make the list. So that was a choice before 'him'. Vancouver would be too expensive and have already done a mega event in Vancouver.

When I was flying home from Auckland a Kiwi on the plane was going to LA for 5 days. 15 hour flights each way. We bounded over our choice of compression grippy socks and got talking. That is insanity to me.

I've been saving up for a World Cup trip to the States if I were lucky enough to get tickets. I was hoping for quarter-finals, semi or final. I decided not to even try. It's too much of an expense when I don't know if we'll be welcome next year, let alone if our exchange rate will be even worse then it is right now. I wanted to bring my Dad who would be 83 then. As much as he loves watching all games soccer, it turns out he does not want to go. He had been talking about going back to Italy but than Covid hit and he hasn't yet gone. If he's serious, we'll use the money and go there instead. He keeps hemming about it. I think it's kind of like the whole 'you can never gone home' thing. It's been 60+ years. Even though it's a small town quite far south, I imagine all kinds of changes have taken place. But if he really wants to go and visit the remaining family members still there - he needs to do it soon before age and health prevent a trip.

If things were not the way they were I would love to be able to get tickets to see Germany play. But unless they get drawn in a favourable location it won't happen.
