Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Good rainy Wednesday morning to all!

Slo, your crockpot meal is the one I LOVE to make when it's cold outside, one of our family favorites, and it's so easy!

Mac, don't have a clue about Rainforest Cafe, do you go there when you go to Disney?

Hersey, what is the "event" that is at Woodfield? Is this next weekend, or this coming weekend??

Piglet, good luck at the dentist, hope it's not too painful/stressful.

Tigg...wasn't it gorgeous out yesterday?! We went for a looonnngg walk, and then pulled out the patio chairs from the garage and sat outside reading! I wish we could *always* do that in February!!!

Hello to everyone, have a great day today!:goodvibes

DonnaW I am not Hersey but I can answer.. the doorway to dreams event for DVC is 2/21 at 10 am.. there are other days/times too. check the website..

Hi Donna. To answer your question, no, I don't go to the Rainforest Cafe when I am at Disney.

When the restaurants came out, RFC went into the Gurnee Mall near my house.
I have eaten there before and I don't see anything special about it.

The food for the most part is average and over priced.
The desserts I have found to be good such as the Volcanic one with ice cream.

When I eat out, I go for the food quality and selections, not the ambiance of the place.

I know many post and oh and ah over the RFC at disney and I can never understand that. Maybe I am in the minority on that.

I still get the mailers with the specials and coupons for RFC at Gurnee and i never use them. It's not my favorite place at all. If I had company come in from out of town and if they were dying to try the place, that would be the only reason I would return to it.

Kevin and I feel the same way about RFC ::yes::
The girls absolutly love it, so we take them there, but we always leave there complaining about the food, and complaining about the cost. If they do go out of business, I will miss them because we had fun family times there, but that's about it (well, I guess I will miss the volcanoes, but even that is ridiculously overpriced).

Geffric, thanks for the info on the event. I saw on the website that the Saturday 10 am time is for current DVC members, and non-members are offered different times to try.

Mac/Slo..I think I went to Rainforest Cafe once at Woodfield, and actually, it was for a Chicago area DIS meet! From what I remember, the food was nothing real special, the atmosphere was very unusual, and the company was the best part!

It is really RAINING hard here...stay safe out there, all!

re RFC- I like the China Island Chicken Salad.. when Geoff was youg we would split it and that was ok..now he can eat that and more so .. we don't go at all.. so many better places to take the boys now that they are older.. having said that we have gone a few times to the one at AK.. when it was raining and we didn't feel like getting wet. or wetter.. we did go there to dry off and hope it stopped raining.. their is a discount for DVC members at the disney ones..

Hi gang! You moved while I was gone but I found you! Atlanta was nice - in the 70's. I pulled up a bench outside the hotel, propped up me feet and read a magazine. Nice...

I say Diz and Diss - depending on how I think it should be said at the time. Diz makes sense to me.

Didn't know RFC was going out of business. Ok by me since I have never been!

Just a quick stop in to say "hi".
Lori

Slo Do you add any water to the stew? is it a full package of lipton soup? It sounds really good.

I don't have a particular like or dislike of Rainforest. I just am sad to hear about any more businesses closing.:sad1:

Hi guys! Brrrrr, it's chilly out there. The dampness and wind make it worse. I'm just glad it's warm enough to be rain, I can only imagine what a disaster it would have been if all the rain was actually snow!

Just home from DD11s basketball game, they went into triple overtime but lost in the end :sad1: . DD did get 2 baskets so that was good.

I hadn't heard anything about RFC going out of business either. That is where DD7 has picked to go for her birthday for the past 3 years so I know she'll be majorly bummed if they're closed before August but not DH and myself. The kids like it and I like the volcano but everything else is marginal at best and I agree the prices are high. Never been to it in WDW.

geffric - I agree with you, I wish this was the end of our winter and that we'd just get warmer from here on out. I know it's never going to happen but we can always hope.

slo - my kids were outside a lot too, it was great to see them come in with wind blown hair and pink cheeks. The fresh air and exercise are great for them.
*I'd like to know about the crock pot recipe, it sounds great and easy too!

piglet - I hope your remaining fillings go well!

mac - I always laugh too when I see people gush over RFC :confused3 but I guess since we have one here I'd rather go to a WDW restaurant.

momto1 - welcome back from Atlanta!

Well, have to run and pick DD7 up from dance. We also need to get Valentines done as their party is tomorrow since they have Friday off.

Have a great night everyone, stay dry! :flower3:

My neck issues are back with a vengence :guilty:
After I worked out Monday, my neck was really bothering me. It contined to be bad Tues, and also Wed morning when I woke up. I worked out anyway (I considered not to, but then I told myself that I've been making to many excuses lately), and my neck went from bad to excrusiating (sp?) which resulted in a terrible migraine :headache: I laid down at work for an hour (thank goodness I work for myself), and then all day I did almost nothing, because I just couldn't think straight. Needless to say, I was in bed by 8pm last night, and if I didn't have little children and a puppy, it would have been earlier than that. This morning my neck is still excrusiating, and my headache is still there (there's nothing worse than working up with the same headache you went to bed with), and I'm praying it doesn't go from a headache to another migraine. I have a lot to do at work, and I don't like using my saw when I feel bad (I don't want to lose a finger  ). So, I guess I won't be working out for awhile, so I can allow my neck to rest - so annoying!!!:headache:

Tonight Kevin, his dad, and his friend are going to the Auto Show. They always enjoy getting all dressed up in their tuxs, and attending this event :goodvibes They all look so handsome!!!!:goodvibes

momto1 - I'm glad you found us!!!:goodvibes

HERSEY - You are suppossed to add a 1/2 cup of red wine, but I just add water. This last time I used to water from the mushrooms, and I didn't like it as well, but Kevin said he liked it. I think I've also used beef broth before too.

ID - The receipe is.......
2lbs of stew meat
1 can of cream of mushroom soup
4oz of mushrooms
1/2 cup of red wine
1 packet of Lipton Onion Soup Mix
Serve over rice or noodles

I don't use the red wine (read above to HERSEY)
I used more mushrooms last time, and this was a mistake - it made everything to watery
I used Golden Onion Soup Mix last time, and this was mistake too - very bland.

Put everything in Crock Pot, stir together, and let it sit, on low, for 8-12 hours.
Very simple :thumbsup2

Well, I better go get Stephanie out of bed, and get her some breakfast.
Have a good day everyone!!!

Slo ~ Hope your headache goes away, and that your neck feels better. I understand about the "pain" of waking up with the same headache you go to bed with. Not fun at all.
* I know I mentioned it last year, but Dewain was at "First Look For Charity" a few years back when they did the Stand By Your Van contest. He thought everyone looked so fancy.

I did not see the dentist yesterday. (well, I did see her, just did not get anything done) My cold has hit real hard, and she told me it was OK to skip the fillings and just go home and rest.

morning chicagoland homies.

piglet, i hope your cold improves. don't fret about the fillings....think of something fun like the motherland and the time in the dentist chair will pass quickly.

slo, i'll give you a very gentle soft
i know when i have a migraine, even a soft touch hurts me.
I prayed for you after i read about your neck and pain. I believe you will feel relief soon.

It seems like a saturday here.
the other homies can't be sleeping in yet, it's still thursday....:rolleyes1

Mac/Slo..I think I went to Rainforest Cafe once at Woodfield, and actually, it was for a Chicago area DIS meet! From what I remember, the food was nothing real special, the atmosphere was very unusual, and the company was the best part!
We were there for that meet! :thumbsup2 That was a very fun day! :goodvibes

Hi gang! Guess what I saw peeking up from the ground this morning - my irises! A little early and I think they are going to get cold from the snow that is supposed to come tomorrow. But, it is a sure sign spring is on its way!

We just found out yesterday that the condo we are staying in in April isn't available for our last night. We are staying 8 nights not the typical 7 night rental. So...I need to find someplace for the last night. That will probably affect my ADR for Saturday, too. Just when I thought everything was planned, I have to rework one day. Oh, well, I really enjoy the planning part.

We are going to go back in September for the Exhibition Everest Challenge. DH isn't going to do it this year. Ds doesn't know we are going but does want to do it so he will be signed up. He wants me to do it with him. I guess I better get walking and see what I can do. I certainly wont' be running it!

ID - sounds like an exciting game! DS last basketball game is Saturday. His team is not very good but they have worked hard and had fun.

Slo - Big hugs to you on your neck and headache. I hope you feel better real soon. The crocpot recipe sounds delicious. I am going to try it. I have stew meat hanging out in the freezer at home.

Piglet - take care of yourself! Feel better soon.

Hi to everybody else! Have a good day!
Lori

Good late morning everyone! :Flower3: sorry I didn't post yesterday. it was a busy busy day at work and i just didn't get the chance.

Slo ~ sorry to hear about your headaches and migraine. I agree that you should take a rest from working out the next few days. Maybe the weather changes could have something to do with the headaches going from cold to warm to cold. i don't know though, i'm not a doc but it's a theory. :confused3 Hope you feel better soon! :wizard:

momto1 ~ what is this Expedition Everest Challenge you speak of? i'll have to look it up. Good luck finding a place to stay on your last night!:wizard:

everyone else ~ :wave2: have a wonderful day!

:wave2:

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and concerns for me :goodvibes My headache is more bareable today, but still very bad :headache: My neck problems are a result from diving into a 3ft pool, headfirst, when I was 5years old, at The Poly (at least it was at the happiest place on earth:rolleyes: ) The doctors feel that this caused my spine to grow more straight, instead of slightly curved, like it should be. This results in many nerves being pinched, now lots of arthritis, and when I have a headache, the pinching results in oxygen not getting to the brain as well, so I yawn all the time when I have a headache - it's weird.

I've been on all types of medications, I've seen regular doctors, chiropractors, a neurologist, and a pain managements specialist. The neurologist and pain management specialist wanted to give me this big shot in the spin, in the neck area, to help with all these problems. I was very nervous about this, because one false move, and I'm paralized  I was going to do it, but the doctor cancelled at the last minute, and I took it as a sign that I shouldn't do it, so I never rescheduled - this was 3 years ago.

As I get older, my neck gets more and more sensitive, and it gets very annoying (for those that have chronic pain somewhere, you know what I'm talking about). It's terrible to be in pain 90% of the time :headache: I told Kevin that I should reconsider "the shot" but I'm just so nervous about it. I know people get it everyday, but what if the "what if" happens???

I always had a dream of running a marathon someday, and I've accepted that this will never happen:guilty: . Now I dream of walking a marathon someday, and that dream is fading more and more everyday:guilty: The last time I walked 6 miles, I paid for it with a headache :headache: It's just so frustrating!!!! :headache:

So that's the story behind my neck problems - sorry about rambling on about it. I appreciate all your kind thoughts - I thank God everyday for you all!!!:grouphug:

Slo Thanks for the recipe. I hope your head and neck are feeling better today.

I hope we are in for big snow this weekend. I want spring to spring already. I am looking through flower catalogs I need to redo my garden this year it was looking very messy and overgrown.

Stephanie doesn't have school today - I love that!!!!!
I let the girls stay up till 10pm, and we watched Ace of Cakes together. Sitting with my girls on the couch, all cuddled up together under blankets, is like heaven on earth to me. Whenever I get the chance to do this, I take advantage of it, because I know in a blink of an eye, they'll be older, and not want to do that anymore:guilty: I just love my girls!!!!!:lovestruc

HERSEY - I sure hope this snow doesn't come either {{fingers crossed}}. They put me in the over 4" inch area, and that doesn't make me happy:sad2:
**I love flower catalogs!!!! I used to have many tulips at our old house, and I someday, I would like to plant some tulip bulbs at this house. There are many landscaping projects that I want to do in the backyard, but I want to do it myself, and these projects will take alot of time. I don't know when I'll get to this, but I'm hoping it will be in the next couple of years {{fingers crossed}}.

piglet - I hope your cold gets better:wizard:

Mac - You are so right about how any touch hurts during a migraine ::yes:: For me, smells are the worst part of my migraines. When I get a migraine, my sense of smell is so sensitive, that any smell makes me headache get worse - it's terrible!!!! I've become so sensitive to smell anyway, that I can't burn many candles, wear perfume, or keep flowers in the house for more than a couple of days (certain flowers like Easter Lilies can't even enter the house) - I hate it!!!!:headache:
*Thank you for the prayer - you know how much I believe in the power of prayer!!!

Big V - So good to see you!!!! :wave2:

momto1 - Hooray for Irisis!!!!! :flower: :cheer2: I love love love Irisis!!!! What color are they?
**I love the planning part of vacation too - I hope everything works out for your trip in April :wizard:
**How fun about the Expedition Everst Challenge - how long is it? There's a Tower of Terror event in October that is 8 miles, and I really wanted to do it last year, but then didn't out of fear of the headache I would get afterwards.

DG - I do get headaches due to weather changes ::yes::, but they are just bad headaches, not migraines - I'm so sensitive!!!!
**How is your fund-raising going for your walk? I hope it's going well :wizard:

Well, I should go get ready for work - have a great day everyone!!!!

Slo Thanks for the recipe. I hope your head and neck are feeling better today.

I hope we are in for big snow this weekend. I want spring to spring already. I am looking through flower catalogs I need to redo my garden this year it was looking very messy and overgrown.

eh, did we forget to add a word to that above sentence........?

maybe the word "not" was to be in it....:rolleyes1

homie, if you really want snow that bad, you might be granted a fast pass straight to Siberia

slo, I do believe in prayer. It's all about faith.
You will get relief and an answer to your prayers over your health situation.
You still are on my prayer list, morning and night.

And a big good morning to all the chicagoland homies here reading or lurking.

If you are not here by now, it's time to get out of bed. You'll be late for work or school or grocery store shopping...

Anyone have big plans for Friday the 13th or the big one tomorrow? Be sure to buy your cards today before the stores run out of them
