Disneyland Maxpass coming later this year

I don't think it is as pricey as they could have made it. Family of 4 = $40 per day for 5 days = $200. That's really not terrible. At least its not $650 cabanas...

Also 5 days is not really the "average" DL visitor. Even those on property probably average the parks into 3 ticketed days. 5 days at DL would be like the 10 ticket at WDW when you get into pricing. Sure a lot of us probably spend 5 days but DL really can be a 3 day trip when figuring out the average DL traveler.

hmm, makes me wonder if it will be set up that you have to be inside the turnstyles to book on the app or can you do from your hotel room that morning or from the esplanade?

I'm hoping that they fix this by requiring that the ticket have been used to enter a park before it can book a FP. Otherwise locals will book "in case" they decide to go later.

At that point though, You could buy the 1-week photopass downloads at $80 for the whole family. That's $120 spent on FP+ access

That's why I didn't do a week vacation. 3 days would be even less. Like I said, it could be worse.

If they GPS it and require a phone to be so far into the park before being able to book, it eliminates much of this problem. Sure GPS spoofing is a thing, but I don't think it would have a major impact.

When digital testing first rolled out, you still had to bring your phone to the kiosk to be scanned - has there been any indication that this won't be the case still?

ETA: Just saw this from Mouseplanet. Must have missed it the first time through
...though MaxPass users need not walk to their selected attraction to claim a Fastpass ticket. A MaxPass user can walk onto Main Street, U.S.A. and claim a Fastpass for Splash Mountain if they want, without ever stepping foot in Critter Country.

Not that I think this is great, but to be fair to DL I think you'd only have to pay $10 a day. Only one of you would need the photo pass and unless I'm mistaken I'd think one person could book friends and family FP over the app.

I highly doubt it. I can't imagine these FPs aren't tied to specific tickets and each ticket getting a digital FP would need the service. There's no way they would leave a loophole that big hanging open.

The thread on the DLR board just reported it is per person. Pretty darn pricy for a family.

Hmm, but kind of a deal if you just want the photo pass.

I'll be going to DL for a few days around D23 and I wouldn't mind paying $10 a day for Photo pass.

Guess I'll just have to wait to see how the digital FP shakes out and how much of a necessity it is.

So you would have to spend the first X number of minutes after rope drop waiting in a phone activation line? No thank you.

I think you underestimate GPS spoofing.

I just updated my post. According to another article, one would be able to book from anywhere in the park

I think you underestimate GPS spoofing.
I recognize that it's a problem (Pokemon Go!) but the number of individuals who would have tickets in their account who also have the knowledge/ability to spoof, and the desire to mess with the DLR system seems like it would not create a substantial problem.

Looking at my own account for WDW, I can pre-book a total of 18 fast passes per day. There are many in the area who are in a similar situation, but even if we all booked our 18 diligently every day the overall supply of FP would not be substantially impacted. The overall supply is far greater than this niche demographics demand

But is there confirmation that they are using GPS and not that the ticket has to have been used at the gate?

Of course it's per person...

...welcome to Florida, baby:cool2:

Now wait until they close Disneyland 2 hours early...then try to sell you a ticket for 3 hours at the end of the day at 110% of the daily price.
I'm well aware of Florida tactics. Been there. Done that.:headache: And I was the one to believe it WOULD be charged pp......

From the Disney Parks Blog
Disney MaxPass is connected to your park ticket, so it can be purchased ahead of time when you buy your ticket, but it will not be activated until you are inside a theme park.

This sounds as if you must redeem the ticket before it will work. Other comments also specify 'must be in one of the parks' which is why I'm assuming GPS could be in play - otherwise I could book a FP while out of the parks as long as Ive entered once that day (I'm imaging guests staying at a hotel nearby who could book at the hotel mid-day without the GPS requirement)

It's hard to tell either way at this point without some sort of terms and conditions

I could see it just being linked to a ticket that was activated for that day - no GPS needed. So yes, you could book something mid-day back at your hotel but it prevents people from booking before they enter the park in the morning and also from locals booking some "just in case" they go to the parks that day

Well, good for one or two people for one or two days ... not so much if every member of a family 5 has to get it for 5 days (or even 2 as that would be $100 vs $80 for the current photopass)
