~*~*~The Oct 2014 waiting patiently (or not so) for a discount thread ~*~*~

I called back and was able to save about $350 thanks to someone who knew what they were doing.

I'm happy to say I saved $175! :excited: I'm at pop century preferred room, was already booked with quick service dining plan and she applied the fall discount! Dates are oct 18- oct 26. Once she applied the discount she told me the savings and said 'oh that could be a couple of shirts!" Her playful tone was wonderful! Can't wait to tell my DBF!!

I'm trying to prepare a spreadsheet to calculate the cost details of our package with the room discount. I can get close to the total on our receipt based on how I thought things were calculated but I am off by $48.25 and it is driving me crazy!

Debbie

ETA: I found my error - I was using the cost of 4-day base tickets instead of 5-day base tickets. Duh!

I am confused. I have 2 room reservations at ASMu. I called today to get the discount applied.

One room I received at credit of 45.00 but, the other room it would br 18.00 more to use the discount?

Does that make sense to anyone?

They are both on my sign in, never had a problem there.
ETA:

Bith rooms are for the exact same dates. One room isbMIL alone, 4 day base ticket, DDP and insurance. Other room is me, dh, ds, amd dd same tickets and dining olan, same insurance.

Did you book through disney or other? That was one question they asked. Not sure if that would make a difference. Also what types of rooms are they? Maybe that has to do with it? Sorry I'm not very helpful. I've heard some rooms aren't available for th discount.

Apparently there are no discounts for my Beach Club ressie. :sad1: I will need to switch to Yacht Club in order to get any discount. :confused3

Good to hear I wasn't the only one that was told this! I called back and spoke with someone else just to make sure. Majorly bummed about it!

From your ticker it looks like your vacation is in Oct. Oct 2014 seems to be a very popular month this year.
It may be that BC just doesn't have available rooms for your dates. If you can get a discount at YC, you may not want to wait. Rooms seem to be going fast.

Availability can change day to day, so it's worth hopping online and seeing what's there. If you have any flexibility in your date range, it's also good to search slightly altered date ranges.

I feel your pain. My boys really wanted to stay at BC. It wouldd have been our first time there. So we are bummed too.

You're right, that is the time we are going. My TA has a room on hold for me at the YC while she was continuing to check on the BC ressie. I suppose she will switch it over to YC if she has no success on her attempts. Unfortunately, we cannot change our dates this trip due to the boy's schedules. I suppose we will take what we can get. On the positive side, the savings switch can make up for some extra time at the Food & Wine festival! :drinking1

Yikes! I'm dying - I feel like I check DISboards and the Disney discounts page every 5 minutes, but somehow I managed to go 2 days without seeing the RO discounts come out!!

Luckily today, I was able to get the discount on our family's 3 POP Century rooms - not a huge total, but every little but helps!

Unfortunately, I'm trying to help out my dad with his Grand Floridian reservation for 10/12-10/19 and no rooms of any type available for discount (some villas). No Contemporary either, but Polynesian has rooms. As I'm staying at Pop, I didn't research the deluxes much, but I know Poly has a ton of construction going on. Anyone have an opinion to share or can steer me to on-the-ground info about the current status so I can help him decide if the $600-$1500 savings, depending on room type, is worth it compared to the construction inconveniences?

Biting fingernails too on this. Poly being on the monorail is HUGE for us- but is it worth it to UPGRADE (in our instance) to it without having a pool and have it all construction sited up? Hmmmm..:confused3:surfweb:

Hi Mikie,
I had a second, so I did a bit of searching for your dates. As you've noted, 10/12-19 is really busy at GF.
Would your dad consider a split stay? If so, it looks like he could get a fall discount from 10/12-10/17 at GF. Then maybe move to say, Yacht Club for the last two nights, 17-19. (That's if he really wants a discount the whole time.)

Otherwise, maybe you could book GF 10/12-10/17 at a discount, and then keep the 17-19 at rack rate at GF. (just shorten his current ressie.)

Hope this helps. Availability in Oct seems really limited this year.

Wow, Gwynne, thanks! I'll see about just making the reservation into 2 "stays" at GF. They are pretty hooked on doing a monorail resort. Since it seems available for 5 nights and just rack for 2, that's still a significant savings! We do have the dining plan, so I have to see how that would work (minimum nights required for a "package"?) but still, $400-$1200 savings is worth a few minutes of calculating and juggling.

I just called.. and was told Mickey had just released discounts. Unfortunately, not for my hotel.. POFQ. I could have gone to the CBR for $150 more or AKL at + $300 or WL at + $500.

I am going from 10/11-10/18. My CM said Mickey may be releasing more discounts and to keep trying. According to my CM, POFQ and POR are heavy with convention bookings at that time of October... which I took to mean that a discount is probably not going to happen if they're getting convention attendees to pay rack rates.

I just booked my flights for food and wine & MNSSHP last night, Heading over on the 30th till the 5th.

And of course, The website at 2am California time wasn't taking my payment ;) as it usually loves to play with me.

Seems AS Movies is available for 88 a night, Not the most amazing discount, but not terrible.

Well, it seems the situation can change quickly and often. When I called at 10:00am, Grand Floridian had no discount rooms of any type available. At 1:00, I tried again because Gwynne above, kindly gave me a tip on how to get at least a partial discount. They were able to get me an upgraded room (Theme Park view, vs Garden View) at a slight savings over the original non-discounted reservation ($220 savings for 8 nights)

a) thanks DISers for reminding us that your first result need not be your last
b) yikes! I didn't do all the research on Deluxe hotels (it's my dad's reservation) but that upgrade fee at GF must be more than the total per night charge of my Pop Century room! :crazy2:
c) I didn't know additional rooms may ever be released after a discount is announced, I will definitely pass along that info to my dad and let him stalk the reservation number seeking still greater discounts!

So nice they were able to find some savings. :thumbsup2
As you mentioned, it's always good to keep checking availability now and then.
Glad things worked out, and I hope you all have a lovely vacation! pixiedust:

Just to let everyone here know, we received an email yesterday with PIN number for free dining and it included the 3rd week of October (but not the first two).
