Some people are so rude!

Reading this thread just reminded me of my favorite tram story ever; it wasn't at WDW, but rather on a Disney cruise. We were at a port in Mexico where they transport people down the dock between the ship and shopping plaza via a tram. We were cruising with our next-door neighbors, who had paused to get some photos while DH and I continued on to the tram. We sat down, and a guy stood behind us in an empty row with one foot off the tram and one foot on, apparently waiting for his family. Several minutes went by, and the rest of the tram filled up but his family didn't show up. The tram driver finally made a couple of announcements that he should get on so we could leave, but he did not. It took so long that our neighbors showed up...they're an older couple in their 70s who are Southern sweet as pie but don't take kindly to rudeness. They asked him to move so they could get in his empty row and he ignored them, so they just literally shoved by him (no doubt blessing his heart as they did so). There were still seats in that row, so he remained in his one foot on, one foot off position despite the driver telling him to get on yet again. Finally the driver got out of his seat, unhooked the tram from the little car that pulls it, jumped back into the car, and drove off...leaving the whole tram there! All I can figure is that it must have been quitting time. Idiot Guy's jaw about dropped to the ground. We all had to walk back to the ship, but it was so totally worth it to see the big baby not get his way. His family STILL hadn't appeared by the time all the rest of us had left the tram.

That is excellent!!! I thoroughly enjoyed that story.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

AMEN...to be honest, I have a feeling this is the straw on the camels back for most people when it comes to scooter use.

lol, as long as no one else can get on a bus before them when it is their turn. i've had to wait for 3 buses before due to various loading problems. We were first in line that day. I guess that all of those behind me should have had to wait. You know, to make it "fair."

:confused3 This is me trying to understand your post, however here it goes.....we have lines, you are in front of me therefore you go first, I have been in line before the folks in scooters therefore I still go before them, but as it goes Disney allows the handicapped line on a bus first....I'm not certain as to why someone wouldn't feel frustrated by that?

Interesting arguments in this thread, making me smile. Thanks for the entertainment! So I'm curious, it's not ok to stake out a table for your family to eat but it is ok to stake out space to watch a parade or show. What's the difference? I refuse to wait an hour for a parade and understand that I won't get an optimal viewing spot--others are willing to plant their butts for an hour or more--more power to them, first come, first serve, we used to say.

Personally, my hubby and I stand in line for food and have our three children find a table and we won't be stopping this practice any time soon. I refuse to make my family stand up and eat their lunch on principle--first come, first serve on a table, just like a parade viewing spot. Besides, it often takes as long for them to find a table as it does for us to get the food. If they get to sit a whopping 3 minutes before we bring the food, then that's 3 minutes they get to rest their tired dogs and reenergize, warding off any impending grumpiness. And when we're done...we're done, we get up and gladly pass our table to the family holding trays and breathing down our necks, waiting for us to stuff our last bite of food into our mouths. Still chewing, we graciously offer up our table. Here's a thought: perhaps Disney needs to do more than their trial "escort" to an available table. They need to limit how long people are allowed to sit at a table. It's really not fair that one family takes half an hour to eat what it takes another family only 15 minutes to eat.

I agree. The particular day in question we were the absolute first people at the stop. That would be 6 of us total. First bus, broken ramp. Everyone else loaded on. 2nd bus, inadequate driver. Everyone else loaded on. 3 rd bus we were finally able to load. And the lovely people in line still gave the stink eye because we were loaded first. That was 45 minutes after we had arrived in line.

My point is that had it been fair, no one should have been loaded before us. We were first in line. But life isn't fair.

Things even out in the end. An extra wait one time, a shorter wait the next. Whatever.

I usually ignore them. Getting angry at people only takes away from MY happiness. People get their kicks out of creating and stirring up chaos. Or they don't notice they are doing anything wrong or frankly, they don't care. It's sad but it exists every day, in all parts of the world.

With that being said: I've just had it up to here with this one cast member in Sunshine Seasons. He's an older guy who's been there everytime I go and he's rude and callous. I don't know if it's because he's been working there a long time or what. I just avoid going during lunch. *shrugs*

I totally agree, if you were in a scooter, and first in line....100% I believe you should have gotten on first....what percentage would you have felt this happens though?

God help you if you say something to me and my protective husband - NY street saavy husband - is within earshot.

Just because I'm in a scooter in 33 days at DL because of knee surgery (another in the assortment since an accident in June of 2008) - and you cannot see it when I wear my jeans - does not give you permission to be rude to me....or anyone else for that matter.

Take a moment TO BE rude to me....well, depending on how out of line you are....it might not be pretty.

I absolutely do not suggest responding to rude behaviour with rude behaviour is a solution. Sometimes its difficult to be quiet when people make unfair assumptions.

Trust me. Anyone who is in a scooter for a valid reason would give just about anything to be able to walk like eveyrone else. It's not nearly as much fun as walking wherever you want - whenever you want without pain.

Didn't say anything about wheelchairs or scooters.

My last trip, I was in line at the character lunch as Hollywood and Vine, I had just got in the buffet line with my 7 yr.old DS, and DW. A noticed a lady headed the wrong way and I very kindly informed her. "Excuse, me but just in case, you are looking, the line start back here". What came next is purely out of a Rude101. She looks and me and says, "what you are the line police?"... "You !#$^... #$&*#(@#!". I took everything in me not to go nutz but I simply stared at her and said, "Wow, you are a piece of work!"... Which just made this women go even battier. She comes around me in line and proceeds to body check me, pushing me as she squeezed into line. The good people that were behind, simply backed up slowly until they were out of sight. I just stood there in amazement that this women would start using profanity in front of my kids and at the most magical place on earth. I took the high road and kept on past the bread basket. At that point there was a cast member behind the counter and he informed me that he saw the whole thing. That what she did was harassment and if I wanted, he'd call his manager to ensure this women was addressed. I kindly refused and said if she came back, than sure, call your manager but as far as I was concerned I was not going to let this women ruin my magical time any further. But boy, I tell ya, I had to leave the restaurant and go rent some strollers just to cool down because I was so livid in my mind. I'm sure she got hers and we enjoyed the rest of our vacay... it still gets to me when I think upon it.

 You handled yourself well.

My pet peeve is people that sashay to the front of bus lines. Any bus, anywhere, there will be a group that will try this move. I get irked when we've been waiting in line and a party will stand off to the side (not in line) and work their way in. I've seen parents push their kids to break in the line and naturally they go behind them. :sad2: I wish I didn't notice, but if the wait is long enough it can become an exclamation point. I've noticed there is a direct correlation for me anyway.

I guess those are the same people that irk me on the highways that see a merge sign and wait until the very last second to merge, trying to hop in front of the people that followed the signs.

I don't think twice about people that use scooters or their family members.

I was hollered at and called rude last week for saying excuse me twice :confused3

We were trying to get through the crossings before the parade came because we had dinner reservations to get to. A lady stopped right in front of us in the marked off crossing. I said excuse me and she moved out of the way but her daughter lingered. I waited a little and then said excuse me again... the lady started yelling at me.

It scared my kids and DH was just stunned.

We do the table saving thing also. It is easiest with the kids and if there are stations it gives us a location to meet up. To be fair, we are not ones to linger. As soon as we are done we get up and go. If I see someone looking for a table I will wave and let them know we are about to get up.

As a woman, I would be insulted if you gave up your seat for me (and would assume you thought I was pregnant :lmao:). Women are just as capable (and probably more capable) of standing as men. If you want to hold open the door for me, fine - I've held the door for many men and women.
Well, if you're offended by my offering you my seat (and pregnancy has nothing to do with it), I'll apologize for the offense. If you don't take the seat, someone else will. It's just that I won't sit while there's a woman or elderly person standing.

As for the table situation, one or two of us stand in line, and the rest of us find a table (because it's not always easy trying to find 7 seats together), gather up napkins, straws, and condiments, so our meal goes faster. I'm always paranoid that one of my kids is going to dart away, and knock someone else's tray over. We are in zone defense when it comes to parenting, and this way works for us.

Your response doesn't surprise me. I have food and can't find anyplace to sit, and you have napkins and straws and condiments...

Perhaps I should just sit at the table you're holding...? After all, you don't own it, I paid the same admission price you did, and I already have my food. I wonder who the cast member or security would side with in the event of an unpleasant confrontation?

The rudest people are usually the fastest to call others rude. I had it happen once on a Disney cruise. They specifically say "No Flash Photography" at the shows, usually multiple times. Apparently the woman next to me thought she was exempt...after the second flash, I told her that it was not allowed. Just said it in a straightforward way. A minute later she started up again, so this time I said, "Apparently you didn't hear all the announcements or hear me remind you that flash photography is not allowed. Would you like me to get a crew member to explain the rules to you?" She huffed and puffed and said, "You're so rude!" and in my most sarcastically honey-dripping voice I said, "Trust me, you haven't even started to see rude." She decided to was best to shut up and put her camera away.

:worship: Yes, board via line osmosis is the worst, especially in the mid August sun. And.. Yes! these are simply the privelage few that don't need to conform to society's norms by waiting in a bus or merge line.. they are so special :lmao:

If you were to be honest you would have to admit that this is the exception, not the rule. When it comes to buses, I'm game for being "fair", if the scooter drivers are.

Perhaps you should've had someone in your party secure a table? And there is no way I'm going to try to manage 5 children (although it is getting easier) with a tray of food, and navigate a busy restaurant, trying to keep my children from knocking down other people's trays. Do you have children? :confused3 I don't know how many people you travel with, but try finding 7 seats together at busy times.

I don't know if it's a regional thing, but I rarely see a whole family stand in line - just one or two of them.

So you're really going to have an unpleasant confrontation over a table at WDW?!?
Man, I can't believe this thread is still alive!

LOL - people have issues.... And I can't imagine a CM removing 5 children from a table!
