Bama Ed, Sorry it has taken me so long to answer your question. We were not married when he played baseball @ TM. We married 12/28/63. I truly can not remember what position he played. I do know he was a very good ball player. I will ask our Son & get back to. you. Yes, we were in site #3 facing the road & y'all was kind of backed to ours. I know their was a drainage ditch between us, so we had to walk the road to reach your site. Yes, we left after only 2 days because of the Hurricane coming & ended up hitting Florida Panhandle. We were very upset because we had to leave & not stay the whole week. Blessing to you & your family.

Good News Folks.

This is a little late but there was an "Invitation To Bid" for the new "RV Resort" at GSP. I believe this is what's going to go on the land that the golf course (down the road where the cabins are) used to use (it has been closed for years). The bids were due to be opened October 11, 2024.

It sounds like it might be aimed at being more upscale than the current campground. Amenities that are part of the work scope include (but not limited to):

- 104 RV sites
- a clubhouse, check-in building, and 2 bathhouses
- utilities include 'fiber' at each RV site
- hot tub and pickleball courts in the pool area
- a putting green

No idea what happened when bids were opened, when it might start, and when it might finish. But I'm sharing this just to show it's still in the plans/works.

Bama Ed

PS - I remember when the current campground pool was planned and announced. We were all excited. It started slow, the contractor went bankrupt, and they had to go through a selection process to choose a second contractor to pick up the pieces and finish the job. It took YEARS (3? 5?) to finally get to opening day. So I expect this new RV "resort" to be LATER rather than SOONER.

Don't forget storm delays...have to include those as well.

I'm with you, Ed. If this was a private project at the bid letting phase, I would expect something this size to be 6-9 months. Being a government project, 2-3 years.

Here's a screen grab from the Sea 'n Suds restaurant webcam right now 730pm (on the beach highway between GSP and downtown GS (such as it is)).

There are still waves/water moving coming on shore but the snow covers the beach sand and the deck of the restaurant.

Brrrrr! 🥶

ED

PS - hope it will thaw before May, @4077. S&S is not one of my favorites (you can get a fried "anything" and fries there). But it does pay for the webcam to operate.

Just to make people on the panhandle feel better.

We are officially at about 14 inches in StL so far. That is about average for the season. Nothing in the mid term (2 week) forecast, but we have had snow into the 1st half of April. It isn't common, but every few years.

Opening day for Cardinal baseball- March 27th!
