After our big delicious Le Cellier lunch, we had a quiet afternoon resting at the resort. We were very, very close to cancelling our reservation for Kona that night, because we still just weren't hungry! In fact, we felt like we might very well explode from too much food. We were also exhausted and didn't feel like heading all the way over the the Polynesian for dinner.
In the end though, we decided to stick with our original plans, so... to
Kona Cafe it was!!
So yep, we'd already been there for breakfast early on in our vacation, but dinner sounded great too, so I'd made two reservations at Kona! I couldn't miss out on those chicken wings and great desserts!!
We only waited a few minutes to be seated, but we waited a long time to meet our server! He seemed to be running around madly all night, apologising for things taking so long - which was a bit odd, because the restaurant really wasn't that busy! Other servers seemed quite calm - we just got the frazzled guy!!
Bread arrived on our table first. (Although we'd ordered drinks beforehand, they hadn't appeared yet.)
I loved this bread! It was so soft and yummy! The butter was whipped macadamia nut butter. Excellent! I knew I shouldn't keep eating the bread, but I couldn't help it! It was just too good!
Our drinks eventually appeared. Yay!
I decided to treat myself and ordered the Fairies Punch - Minute Maid Light Raspberry Lemonade served in a souvenir Fairies cup with a glowing Tinker Bell Clip-on-Light. Now, I know it's meant for kids, but it was cute!! I'd seen them everywhere throughout our time at Disney, and I wanted one!! It wasn't included on our Dining Plan, but that was okay. It's cute!! (And the raspberry lemonade was fantastic had a really, really strong raspberry flavour! Definitely put a spring in my step!)
DH ordered a Tropical Smoothie (again!) and loved it (again!).
For our appetizer, we chose the Sticky Wings - glazed chicken wings wings with a tangy mustard drizzle and toasted sesame seeds...
This now serves two people, so we had to share them.
Hehee, it wasn't that bad. There were plenty of them to share - there was no way either of us could eat a plate of these by ourselves! They were fantastic chicken wings though! The sauce on them was similar to 'Ohana, but maybe even better, if possible!? Finger lickin' good!!
The entrees at Kona Cafe never really appealed to me as much as the appetizers and desserts. I didn't quite know what to order! In the end, I decided on the Shrimp and Scallops - panko breaded shrimp and pan-seared scallops with sticky rice and ponzu, spicy guava-passion fruit and wasabi cream sauces - except without the Scallops!! I don't like scallops!! I asked our server if I could just have shrimp and no scallops, and he said that would be fine. Phew!!
This was a lovely sized meal! Not as huge as lots of other meals, but definitely enough. The shrimp were massive, and were very tasty. I dipped them in the orange sauce at the end, which was a great mixture of spicy and sweet. It was a great choice in the end!
DH went with the Coconut Almond Chicken - sauteed chicken breast served with Asian greens tossed with honey-lime dressing, golden pineapple, strawberries, and toasted almonds...
I don't see any strawberries in there, do you!? Oh well! DH loves pineapple and almonds (and chicken!) so this was a no-brainer choice for him, and he really liked it! The piece of chicken was really big though, and he didn't eat it all - but he definitely enjoyed what he did eat!
And then it was dessert time! Yay!!
They make choosing dessert very tricky at Kona - all the desserts are laid out and displayed on the counter at the back of the restaurant! DH and I went for a wander to check out what we might like to order - very tricky to choose, they all looked so good!
Eventually, I chose the Chocolate Fondue...
This was excellent! The melted chocolate was like a mix of milk chocolate and dark chocolate, and was very creamy and rich. My favourite thing to dip in was the pineapple. Mmmmm! A great dessert!
DH went for the Kona Cone...
He was a bit worried this was actually a kid's dessert, but it's not on the kid's menu! Heh! Inside each corner of that silver tray are little decorative candies and nuts and things that you can add to your ice-cream. Which DH did, of course!! He loved it! I had a taste and it was great ice-cream. I don't think either of us ate the cotton candy, what a shame!
Overall, we had an awesome meal at Kona Cafe. It wasn't until the very end, when we were leaving, until I realised that I actually ate most of my meal. Wow!! That's a first at Disney World!! I'd really only been nibbling at our meals for the past few days, because of my minor tummy bug, and because I just wasn't hungry - but I actually ate quite a bit at Kona! Was my appetite coming back, or was the food just really good!?! Maybe both!!
The atmosphere of Kona is nothing amazing. I like the big fans on the roof, but apart from that, it feels just like a regular hotel cafe really. Our server wasn't too fantastic either, but it didn't matter too much. The food made up for it! In the end, we were so glad we didn't cancel our ADR!! We'd definitely head back here for dinner again.
We gave Kona Cafe 4 smiley men out of 5!

Boma Breakfast! (Our last full day of our vacation!)
