After our relaxing breakfast in bed, we headed to Epcot. I was still feeling a little bit sluggish and icky, but we had a fun morning anyway. And then before we knew it, it was lunch time! Time for our ADR at
Le Cellier!
We had eaten here in 2006 and although it wasn't one of our favourites, it was still good. I especially loved the cheese soup, and was dying to try it again!! DH is a steak man, so he was looking forward to some good steak again too.
Except... remember how cheesy my meal the night before at Chefs de France was? I had the onion soup which was piled with melted cheese, then the mac & cheese which was amazingly cheesy. Because I was still feeling a bit squirmy, the thought of more cheese in my cheese soup just made me feel ill. Oh nooooooo!!! I knew I still had to have it though, or I'd regret it later. More cheeeeeese!?!!!
Anyway, we arrived at Le Cellier and waited around 15 minutes to be seated. We were seated very close to where we were in 2006 - right smack bang in the middle of the restaurant, on a teeny little table for 2, which was really, really close to all the other tables. It is a pretty small restaurant, but still. I wish we weren't quite so close to the table next to us!
We met our server, who was lovely. She explained how the different areas of the restaurant correlated to different areas of Canada, and let us know her recommendations for dishes.
We ordered drinks first - a Chocolate shake for DH, and a lemonade for me.
And then the breadsticks arrived. Yum!!!
I know most people do, but we just love that pretzel bread! We actually received two loaves of pretzel bread without asking for it - yay! I could have just eaten them for my meal, and I would have been happy.
Appetizers were next. I went against my protesting tummy, and just had to have the cheese soup -
And it was just as good as I remembered!! So deliciously thick and cheesy. I especially love dipping the pretzel bread in the soup and eating it that way. I didn't end up eating it all though - my queasy stomach just wouldn't allow it. But it was so good!
DH surprised me and ordered the Spicy Chicken and Chipotle Sausage...
Normally he doesn't really like spicy things, but he quite enjoyed this anyway. I don't really know what possessed him to order it, but he said it was very different!
I'm not a huge steaker at the best of times, and I knew I wouldn't be able to stomach a steak today. Now of course, I wish I could try the little mushroom filet steak! But then, I just wasn't up for it. So instead, I had the Caesar Salad with Chicken - Romaine lettuce, parmesan, sourdough croutons and a creamy Caesar dressing...
This was okay, but tasted really salty! Like the chef had coated the chicken (and the lettuce) with salt. I only ate a little bit of it. I never really cook with salt, so it was just a bit overwhelming for me. I made DH taste it too, to make sure it wasn't just me, and he said it was definitely salty. The croutons were nice though!!
DH chose the New York Strip Steak - with bercy butter, balsamic red onions, watercress, and roasted Yukon potatoes...
He said this was great. Two thumbs way up! A great cut of meat, apparently, and really well cooked. Still not as great as the steak at Yachtsman Steakhouse, but I don't think anything will ever beat that for him!
For dessert, I just had to have the Maple Creme Brulee...
Mmm, mmmm! Fantastic! Probably my favourite creme brulee ever. Perfectly cooked, and a great sweet flavour without being overly sweet, if that makes sense. I wasn't hungry in the slightest, but I ate all of it!! I just had to! It was too good to leave!!
DH went with the Chocolate "Moose" - Chocolate Mousse rolled in Toasted Chocolate Crumbs with Maple Leaf Antlers...
He was most amused at the presentation of this, even though we'd seen it lots of times on the DIS boards! Hehee! It really is cute. He loved the mousse - I had a taste and it was a bit too chocolately for me! Really rich! He really enjoyed it though.
Overall, we had a great lunch at Le Cellier. My salty salad was the only thing a bit not-quite-right, but apart from that, everything else was excellent. I don't love the atmosphere of the place though - I know it's meant to be like that, but it always seems so dark and cold! Plus, the tables are so close together, I find it a bit off-putting. Oh well! The food is fabulous though, and because of this, we'd definitely go back there again. Mostly for the cheese soup and creme brulee!!
We gave Le Cellier 4 smiley faces out of 5.
