Need Help... Looking to Add Points Resale

I'm with @AstroBlasters on this approach for doing a piecemeal on PVB direct. You can get the extra points you want at the pace that is comfortable, eventually you could get your blue card for those perks (which can vanish at any time, of course) for the cheaper AP, and those points will still be good at RIV, LSL, or even BC2.0. That would be a compelling argument for me.

It's all fun and games until your youngest turns 3 and you have to start buying them tickets and meals. 😜 I didn't realize how good we had it back in the day when we were only essentially paying for 1 kid!

If we weren't Florida residents I'd probably run the numbers on direct and Sorcerers Pass savings just to see how it all shakes out. I'm with you that buying direct is a huge chunk up front compared to resale, but it might end up saving you money in the long run. I'd also hold out and see what the next round of incentives looks like.
I am running numbers now lol
It’s worth running the math.
Already started looking at it. We always get tickets through SOG so have some savings there. Definitely something to think about.

Only concern with direct approach is that discounts are not guaranteed so if they AP discount ever went away it would wipe the savings.

That's very true. Now hopefully once you get the AP you can keep renewing it and lock it in, but I agree that's a risk.

Of course the bigger danger is "if we get more points we can get an AP --> we got APs and now we can go more --> we need more points because we're going more!" It's a vicious cycle!

IF you get an AP now and Disney discontinues that option for DVC you would still be locked in if you renew?

This -- and wait until they're considered adults at 10! OMG. The pain! We bought DVC when DS was 6 and DD was 5, got three glorious years of child (still overpriced) character meals with them only eating a single nugget or buttered roll and milk for the low-low price of $35pp, which even then I was gagging.

Now, ages 11 and 12 and priced as adults? Everything is a minimum of $200+ every time we park our butts to eat.

So true!

Id get more Poly. Allows you to book bigger rooms at 11 months IF you ever decide you need that. But you can also use it for SAP. If you aren't needing a Boardwalk view it's not that hard to book BWV from what I have seen. BCV is a bit harder but I have also seen availability a couple months out. Many times people are saying 7 month is hard to get but I think that is because they are looking at it right at 7 months. Lots of people book right when it opens up, if you check 90, 60, 30 days out a lot of things open up due to others cancelling.

It also might make sense to build up a direct portfolio to get access to the low priced APs if you are going to be traveling to WDW that often.

I too vote more PVB and try accumulating enough for direct benefits. A family of four would save about 1.6k annually on the renewal. That savings would equate to dues on 200 points right now!

While no benefits are guaranteed, even through 2021 APs were allowed to renew. Same with DL. New sales suspended, but MK renewals were still allowed. DVC also made a point to say Sorcerer pass availability would be better for members and they got early access in 2023 when new sales returned. In full transparency DVC did remove the discount on the Incredipass (old Platinum) for members when the pass types updated.

There's a lot of economic uncertainty right now. If you don't need the points immediately I would honestly wait and see what DVD has to do to incentive sales of PVB while keeping a close eye on PVB resale. It's much easier having a large amount at one resort in the same UY that you love if you're ok picking up 7-month 1-bedrooms at other resorts. PVB dues are also nice and low.

I am thinking in the future of buying SSR points just for SAP.

I am 5 months from my vacation and in a week of stalking I have accomplished getting a poly og room booked and 3 nights at bcv in September. I don't think getting something great with SAP points would be an issue for me at 7 months, but I have literally been stalking to the point of insanity 🤣🤣

There are other great options I'm seeing that doesn't involve me stalking like crazy at 5 months namely kidani, blt, brv, okw, ssr, Vero. I don't have much experience so I don't know what it's like at other times of year, but I'm thinking SSR SAP points may be the way to go for me.

One thing that was interesting on my last trip is all the restaurants and merch places gave me the DVC discount with my resale contract. Some just asked "Are you DVC" or "Any discounts AP or DVC?" and I just said yes and they gave it to me and others asked to see my memberships in MDE app. Not sure if this is normal. Obviously would not work for an AP.

Completely agree! That is why we went Poly on our first contract.

If you're okay with split stays and really like BW/BC, adding on there isn't a bad idea at all for Epcot area. I would try a visit to Riviera. Their studios are really nice, and resale Riviera is the same price as BW/BC and gets you a much longer life span. I know, it sucks the points can ONLY be used there, but your family is very young, and you have your Poly points to get 1Bs at BW/BC or other OG14.

We've had good luck with waitlists, and your 250 Poly points should work well for 1B/2B if and when you need it.

The other thing is your kids ARE young. Once they're locked into school schedules and sports/band/whatever, you may not be able to go as frequently as now. Instead of running out of points from frequent trips, you may decide to go baller just on peak weeks due to their school schedules.

We thought we'd be fine pulling them out of school (and we got lots of trips in during Covid/remote learning,) but now in middle school, they can't miss that much time, and so much of what they're doing is in-person lecturing with Chromebook work. It seems like they COULD take their Chromebook on vacation and do work -- and my son did do some of that, but it really can set them back missing the instruction in class that goes along with it.

All that to say, I was all about addonitis until I got a new job that makes it very difficult to get time off and the kids entered middle school with a much more rigorous agenda.

Gone are the elementary school days of macaroni art and every freaking holiday being a themed daily celebration (Dr. Seuss's birthday! Favorite sport/team day! School spirit day! Easter! Christmas! Thanksgiving! St. Patrick's Day! Valentine's Day! Crazy hair day! Funny socks day! *** day! LOL.) Now they're like little programmed Einsteins and expected to be all grown up by 5th grade.

Your 250 Poly +100 whatever you get may hold you nicely for a while. We're at 400 points and DH just asked if we should get another 100 somewhere for booking priority, and I shocked him when I said no, I think we're good for now.

I actually teach Middle School! Took 6 days back in January. Sports would really be the only thing that would restrict us but we are planning long trips (8-10 nights) in the summers and short trips (3-5 nights) other times of year.

Currently running number on the direct side of things to see if it makes sense for us. I love the idea of having points I can use anywhere like RIV or LSL and futures.

@AstroBlasters savings with AP on a direct purchase actually shocked me looking over the lifetime of the contract (as long as you can always get the AP)

That being said if I went direct, how would adding work? would they add it to my current UY just a new membership or will it be new membership new UY? If I were to add lets say 50 points each year over then next 3 years would I have 3- 50pt memberships or will it be 150pts?

Thought I had a handle on all things DVC but still a lot I DON'T know.

If you called your/a Guide today and asked to add a 50-pt contract to your current membership (current UY) then it would appear as contract XXXX.0X in your membership. You'd probably have your points in the account this same afternoon. They are very fast.

Existing members can add on at either 25 or 50 pt min increments, depending on the resort. If you wanted to create a new member # in a different UY then it'd be a min of 100 pts purchased at the initial purchase.

If you did 3x 50 pts over the next few years (assuming they don't increase the # needed for blue card - currently 150 pts) then you'd have three extra contracts totaling 150 and (again, given they don't increase the min needed) you would then qualify for blue card and perks like Sorcerer AP (yada yada disclaimer, every perk can vanish at any time, yada yada).

So it would all be under the same membership but show as different allotments (resale pts and direct point separate) since direct i would be able to use at RIV or will it all just show as one?

If I get to 150 pts and get blue card and they then change it to a higher amount, are you grandfathered in or would you have to buy more to continue to get discounts?

Contract size can never change so no matter what else you buy, it will always be its own.

Once you are eligible for membership extras, you will alway be as long as DVD doesn’t change the rules.

They have always grandfathered and I don’t see a reason they would change that.

Correct. It would show as all these little contract buckets in a list of your contracts. We're up to 7 separate contracts and had a few rewrites in there along the way so our latest contract # is XXXX.10. You'd see them all listed out under Manage Vacation Points.

Yes, you would be grandfathered in if there are future changes on the min for DVC-Y. If you peeled off one of those 3x 50-pointers down the road then you'd lose your blue card.
