Alright, i am venturing into a Superthread where I post all of my questions 🤣🤣 but i also want this to be somewhere where people post their opinions and ideas and what they're current thoughts are about DVC and just to chat about DVC as well! So here's my first thought of the day, When a new resort opens I've noticed people say that the points were a way lower price than buying later. Like when Riv first opened i think people were posting they got points for $160 (Don't quote me on that) but now it's obviously higher. I am wondering why this is? Can people buy before the resort opens and trust that it will be good and that's when they get the lowest price? Or is it already open and they're just trying to move sales along? 🤔

Prices only go up. Just next week a bunch are going up $10p/p

The rate of increase does seem wild to me. It’s tough to compare not knowing what the incentives were back then, BUT: $160 pp in 2019 (opened in Dec 2019) adjusted for inflation now would be 196.32 yet RIV points are going up to $235 next week before incentives. I work in health policy and we use medical CPI vs standard CPI since it’s usually higher. This has me thinking we need to track incentives and calculate Disney CPI over time 😂

The base price for points always goes up, but the actual price can go down depending on what DVD does with incentives. However, the VGF BPK is the only one I can remember where there was a "fire sale" when they were near sell-out, but then again, since we've never been in the market to add on, my memory may not be accurate! (And I'm sure someone will come along to point out what I forgot!)

I forget that it did open like 5-6 years ago, but still is a huge jump!

So when Lakeshore Lodge first goes on sale, that will probably be the cheapest it will ever be?

Most of the time yes, the opening sales are the best times to buy.

Very rarely does a fire sale like VGFs occur. I remember a few years ago they did one for Aulani at 133 a point but you had to buy like 300. Most recently the OKW firesale was like 100 dollars per point last year when @DonkeyHoTay bought a whole 1BR to himself. To be fair though I think when OKW first went on sale in the 90s it cost like a wooden nickel per point so technically not the cheapest it's ever been.

Yes, but it does seem like they become too expensive for the current economy (at different times, or situations), so they have to use incentives to lower the cost back down instead of actually lowering the price.
