Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Did you reserve both rooms on 1 reservation or did you have a CM update the reservations to indicate a "traveling with" note to link 2 reservations?

This should not have been an issue, they clean the check-out rooms first so you room would have been scheduled for after 1 PM. When did you happen to return was it between 1 and 4:30 PM?

While I know you that you know that the Housekeeping button on the room phones now go to a call center based on your no water post earlier. For others reading along I always mention it. Since your call went to a call center, the CMs handle more than 1 resort and often a Value and Deluxe, you got the wrong answer of "towels only" after 3.

Did she happen to provide any additional housekeeping insights that you want to share here? A good example would be on the answer you got from the phone call that you make to housekeeping, and getting the "towels only" after 3 PM.

Dave

We booked our rooms separately, but I called about 2 weeks prior and had them add the "traveling with" note.

We returned after 3:00 every day. We were told by housekeeping, as well as by the front desk manager, that if you call to request a cleaning after 3:00pm it would be trash and towels only. However, if you call before 3:00pm they will perform the full cleaning ASAP. Once I expressed my frustration for not having our rooms cleaned on multiple occasions, they were happy to come up and give us both a full cleaning even though it was after 5:00pm at the time. The next day I asked the housekeeping manager what was causing this issue to happen and what I could do to help remedy it... she pulled the door records up for me to see that housekeeping had been coming around 9:00-9:30am each morning, that particular morning they had come at 9:27am, however not being able to clean because we were still in our rooms, they skipped us and did not return later in the day to check again. So she put us on a set schedule of 11:00am-3:00pm every day. That solved the problem.

Yes I did ask again if there was anything I could do on my end to help, because I really don't like complaining or causing housekeeping any problems. I even offered to call them every morning when we left our rooms. She said that "wasn't my responsibility" and it was their fault for not having the rooms cleaned. She would personally make sure they were cleaned from then on and the issue was resolved.

On a solo trip a couple years ago, I stayed at BC. I usually hit the parks at rope drop, and came back at lunchtime to nap. Inveriably, unless I put the ROOM OCCUPIED sign out, I would no sooner doze off than they were knocking at the door to do the room clean. If I did put the sign out, they would call about mid-afternoon and ask if I wanted cleaning. Since I was alone, often I just said I'd put the trash out in the hall, and they would take care of it. Always interrupted my little cat nap though....

Quick review of my BC stay (8 nights: 3/26-4/3)

We were in rooms 3534 and 3532 (connecting door, no balconies or view, just the small step out facing the trees) If you know where the "secret" laundry room is we were exactly two floor above it. Very close walk to the International Gateway and Skyliner, and far away from any construction noise.

Other than not having any water the first night, which I already mentioned here, the stay was fairly uneventful. I will say we had a lot of difficulty getting our rooms cleaned at first. Now part of this might be our fault because we aren't early risers, we usually leave our rooms around 10:00am, 11:00am at the latest, but the first 4 days we returned to dirty rooms. The first time I didn't even mention it because it was late and we still had plenty of towels leftover, but the 2nd day I called housekeeping around 4:00pm and was told "towels only" after 3:00. When it happened again the 3rd day I went downstairs to the front desk and asked to have our rooms serviced, which they did even though it was after 5:00pm. Day 4 we returned from Animal Kingdom around 3:30 to dirty rooms again (not wanting just towel service again) I went back to the front desk to try and figure out what the heck was going on. The housekeeping manager came to speak with me, she was very nice and we had a good conversation. She put a special request in for us to have our rooms cleaned daily and the problem never happened again for the rest of our stay.

The BC is a great resort for its location, and we enjoy the entire Boardwalk area. So many great family memories. My kids were big SAB fans when they were younger, so I always recommend it to anyone who likes swimming and spending lots of time at Epcot and the Studios especially.

For me personally, maybe because I'm old now  I think a villa fits our family's current needs a bit better. Unfortunately we rarely find anything other than SSR available for our trips because we go down frequently and on short notice. (that's why I never bought into DVC, we rarely plan a trip more than 2 or 3 months in advance at most) So we're usually stuck booking two rooms and making the best of it.

Final thoughts, Marketplace food was great, love that Caprese sandwich, yogurt parfait for breakfast is solid, Beaches and Cream is of course wonderful, we made probably a few too many stops there :poop: easy access to Epcot and the Studios is always appreciated, bus to MK was crowded but usually on time, Easter eggs in the lobby were fun to see, construction had little to no impact on our stay. One tip, always bring crocs or recovery sandals to wear in your room because the floors are hard as concrete which feels absolutely terrible after a long day of walking.
If you have any questions feel free to ask! :flower3:
This is so interesting because we had a do not disturb sign up as we didn't need housekeeping our first few nights and I got called at noon on our first day by the hotel asking if I wanted service. When I explained I didn't need it, they said they still needed to enter the room to check it daily and asked me to make a reservation for that. I said they could just enter as we were not going back to the room until very late. I have never had that happen before. I am surprised that if the policy is that they need to see the room each day for security that a room would be skipped for days from being cleaned! But maybe my daughter and I just looked shady. Ha.

I think they have been doing room "checks" for quite awhile now... if the Housekeepers clean the room, I don't think they need anyone else to check it, but if the cleaners don't come in, someone usually needs to at least come in and take a peek. Not sure if they do that everyday though.

That sounds like it was very frustrating, especially when it was multiple days without cleaning. At least they solved the problem.

I know where your room was because I know where the secret laundry room is. I like that side of the BC resort because of the proximity to Epcot. And it is a little shorter to walk to Hollywood Studios via the BW from those rooms than to walk past YC.

They’ve been doing daily room checks since before the pandemic closures. If housekeeping enters for daily service, that counts. If you have the room occupied sign up, they usually check back. If it’s still up, they call or can enter anyway if they can’t get ahold of you. There are a lot of posts about it if you want to look for more people’s comments.

Yes, it's been 7-8 years since they started doing the daily room checks. We will do a few trips each year in DVC villas, including BCV, and 90% of the days we're there, housekeeping will have stopped by during the day while we're at the park/pool. They almost always empty the trash and recycling when they stop by (it's actually how we know they've been there!). To make it easier on them, we remove the "room occupied" sign from the outer door when we leave.

I was just joking about us looking shady. This was my first trip in 10 years so I didn't know it was a thing, it wasn't in 2015 when I was last there. It makes sense. I was more remarking that I am shocked someone could not have a room cleaned for days if that is the policy especially considering we were there at the same time and I got the call about it.

Yep, I knew you were joking about that! I was just trying to explain the process. And that it wasn’t a new thing. It is a point of contention for many posters that dislike the policy & there are frequent posts about it. That’s why I mentioned if you wanted to see other comments.
