No FOOL-ing around the April 2025 W.I.S.H. Thread

Tomorrow I'm participating in the local Hands-Off protest, so yesterday I walked from the apartment to the gathering point as a test run. On the way back I decided to stop in at the little bistro and had a burrata salad for dinner. The weather was nice enough to sit out on the front patio and it was a lovely impromptu experience.

Totally counter to having just spent money to eat out, I've been thinking a lot about how to save more money. I've slipped back into the pattern of impulse buying food (it is so nice to have a good grocery store in town) and tossing way too much that doesn't get eaten. My first brilliant cost-saving idea is to stop getting salads at the salad bar and buy the ingredients to make my own instead. I'm thinking doing this I can probably get three salads for the cost of one... this theory will get tested next week.

TGIF!!!!!!!

This week was a hot mess express.

Too many ridiculous situations occurred. Too much drama. I literally cannot right now. I’m just glad this week is over.

I’m two cocktails in…hoping that next week is less difficulty and more positivity and productivity.

I’m 11 pounds down, a bit stalled, but it’s okay.

I got: ...............................(which I'd say is pretty accurate)

I also got Inside Out.

Test 1 for salad costs… I shopped at the expensive grocery store and got some prepared things, like shredded carrots. Cost dropped from $9 to $12 per salad from the salad bar to $5… dropping by half is pretty good. Next test will be shopping at COSTCO and Safeway and not getting anything prepped.

It is clear and sunny outside, temps will reach into the low 60’s… a perfect day to make good trouble.

Today I went to my school daughter’s bridal shower. She teaches kindergarten across the hall from me, and we’ve grown very close. It was an honor to be invited. The venue was stunning with crystal chandeliers and flowers hung from the ceilings. I didn’t know anyone there except the bride. I have briefly met her mother and the groom when they have come to school to read to her students. I was very much out of my comfort zone, but I am so glad that I attended. It was beautiful, and I met some great ladies who I will see again at her wedding in July. It will be a black tie affair. I can’t wait.

Participating yesterday was really good. We had over 1000 people, all told nationally/internationally it was 5 million. The story is always about the negative and the conflict but the real power for social/political change is with the people... and we showed up yesterday, and most importantly connected with each other. So, I'm coming into self-care Sunday with some hope and peace that I haven't had for a while and plan on holding on to it for as long as I can.

A large part of my self-care for Spring and Summer is going to be to sit on the deck in the evenings and craft, and I've got my projects and supplies all lined up. And I earned another "well done you" because one of the things I want to make is a quilted seat cover for the sofa and instead of running right out to buy new fabric I dug out some log cabin squares I made eight or so years ago and they are going to be perfect.

First commute into the office is complete. It was a lovely peaceful walk to the dock and ride on the ferry. Even catching the bus from the ferry up to the area the office is in went smoothly. So far, I have 5500 steps in so hurrah for that. It does feel good to finally get going with this transition... hopefully I'll feel the same at the end of the day.

Are you back in office for first time since covid? I commute 3 days a week, moved job to cut my commute form 1 hour or more to about 35 minutes. I am in about 2.5 days. It's great, but takes time to adjust. Even moving location - I have always worked close to the city and moved to more remote areas - I miss the business of the city and I feel less interested in the commute to the new area.

Hello there! Yes, yesterday was my first regular work-day back in the office since covid. While remote work was being offered, I had moved away from the city so when they canceled it, I had to move close enough to be able to go in three days a week. I'm doing a ramp up of one day for a couple weeks, then two and then up to three. Commuting and being around people and in the city again is a big change.

They say screaming when you are riding a rollercoaster is really good for you and we're all on one giant rollercoaster right now, aren't we? I'm not even sure I could scream. I took voice lessons a while back so I could learn how to control my register while doing presentations... I wonder if anyone offers screaming lessons.

Overall yesterday was really good, but my body sure took a beating. I was carrying my laptop and stuff in a handheld bag that was heavy and it stressed my neck and shoulders: I'll definitely switch to a backpack. And I got in almost 15,000 steps, this after only doing 5000 on a good day. I was a mess by the time I got home and lay crumpled up on the sofa for most of the evening. I made a couple appointments with my Chiropractor in my old town because I really need to get my neck and right hip sorted out.
