... Has anyone done either one of these excursions. I have looked everyone and can't find any reviews. My son wanted to see starfish and these both have it..

El Cielo Sandbar and Starfish snorkeling CZ105
or
El Cielo by Catamaran CZ102

We did the top one in November. We enjoyed it. I will say that the snorkeling was different from any other excursion I have been on. Everyone had to put on a life jacket and get into the water to snorkel. We followed guides in the water, everyone swimming and the boat came later and picked us up. It was tough swimming conditions because the seas were rough that day. We did see lots of starfish at the last stop.

Feel free to ask any other questions. And take some extra cash for your pictures from the excursion. They were excellent!

tough swimming conditions but do you think a 11 year old shouldn't have a problem right. he is a good swimmer

Open water swimming with a life belt or jacket for reef snorkel. Know your limits.

But the area with the starfish should be calmer. My sister reported there was just a sand bottom - no reef or vegetation. Water you can stand in. If the starfish aspect is top priority, pace yourselves In the open water.

If he is a good swimmer, he shouldn’t have any issues. Everyone had to wear a life vest.

The starfish area was calmer.

Not the OP but I’ve booked this snorkel excursion for a cruise in April. Were there two stops, the reef snorkel and then the starfish sandbar? What type of food or drink did they serve? Did you see a good variety of marine life at the reef?

Yes. 2 stops. It was really rough seas that day we did the excursion, so it was hard to see any fish. They served alcohol on the ride back to the ship - we had some beer. Don’t remember any food!

Hm. The description says enjoy a “light snack and refreshments in the shallow water” before going back to the boat. I wonder if it has changed.

We are picky about eating food on excursions. There could have been food and we just didn’t eat any!

We did CZ102 10 days ago with a 13 year old in what I would qualify as moderate sea conditions... Of all the snorkeling tours that we did with DCL, I have to say that this was the safest and best organized tour. As stated above, you do stay in a group and follow a guide who will at times point out things of interest. The service from the crew was great. Because of the moderate sea conditions, it is not the snorkeling that was an issue but more the catamaran ride which was a bit rocky near the port area, especially near the 2nd port where the non-Disney ships dock
