Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

My understanding is that there is... Open Table required a credit card for our reservation, and I don't remember what the penalty was, but I thought there was one there...
That must be only for places like Cake Bake Shop. I use open Table for lots of other restaurants that don’t require credit cards (including Il Mulino at Swan and Rosa Mexicano at Dolphin.)

We had breakfast at Cake Bake today. We are not foodies so all I can say is that their dishes were as good as any restaurant at a 5-star hotel. The portions were massive and unfortunately there was a lot of food waste between the four of us. They offered boxes to take but we were heading straight to the park.

Anyone have experience using the coupon for this restaurant that is in the latest Birnbaum book? Those coupons look so generic I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any issues using them.

It appeared that the Bakery may have hit capacity this evening. There was a line waiting outside a closed door with the host occasionally letting in a few people.

I wonder if most people are going for dinner because of how long the meal is reported to take. When I stopped there, there was not a single other person in the bakery and the restaurant side appeared pretty empty- at least the outside tables and the outer ring, I couldn’t see past that. My wife is going there tomorrow, will be curious to see how it is.

I haven't used open table for CBS but one of our local restaurants also requires a credit card to book through open table. The fine print says the charge for no shows or cancellations within 24 hours is $25 per person.

Has anyone had an issues parking at the Boardwalk and showing them a reservation on OpenTable vs the WDW App to get them to let you park for your reservation?
To answer my own question, we went for lunch today with our Open Table reservation and had no problem parking by showing the guard our Open Table reservation. This was the first time ever we received one of those pink slips saying parking for three hours only. Though the guard did not tell us of the 3-hour limit when he handed it to us. He just said here is your parking permit.
1. ESPN club appealed to a certain type - CBS appeals to the exact opposite. Many men may not be comfortable in the overly feminine atmosphere.
What about the atmosphere did you find to be overly feminine?
I do wish Cake Bake would tweak this table configuration because singles and couples would love to dine in the main room once in a while too.
DW and I were in the main dining room. The tables around us were mostly couples and the table immediately next to us was a single diner. Perhaps it depends on the time of day?

I didn't remember having to give a credit card when we made our reservation, but when I tried just now to make new reservations Open Table was in deed asking for a credit card and warning of the $10 per person penalty if not canceled in 24 hours.

When I was in WDW for Thanksgiving I saw long lines outside (10-20 people) for the bakery when I walked by on Thursday and Friday, in the evenings. I was going to get a friend a gift card but didn’t want to subject her to a long wait (she was also in WDW) so I passed. A few days after Thanksgiving it seemed the lines were shorter or nonexistent though I’m sure time of day plays a role. I guess I wouldn’t be surprised if the bakery has lines in evenings especially as the holiday season ramps up, since it’s still a hot new thing people want to try. Not sure how many people they let in at a time? I think a lot of people stop in as they leave Epcot, so after dinner is probably a peak time.

Let’s talk more about the pink parking slip …
Where you told to display it in the front window ?
What happens if you didn’t leave after the 3 hour limit ?

I wanted to go to Cake Bake for dinner tonight but of course the Disney app showed no availabilities. We were at MK so I didn't want to make the phone call. I wish they would hurry up and fix the MDE issue. Not everyone is familiar with other booking apps.

and how soon prior to your reservation re you authorized?

I have long wondered this at all the disney resorts that do this... how much of it is serious, and how much of it is theatre....

Great review! If I may ask, where in the restaurant were you seated? I have dined there twice solo, and both times I was seated in the bar area. I don’t mind the bar because it’s beautiful in there too! However it was explained to me that the restaurant didn’t have many two-tops and they were mostly in the bar or the outer garden rooms. I do wish Cake Bake would tweak this table configuration because singles and couples would love to dine in the main room once in a while too.

I was indeed in the bar. Didn't bother me since I just walked up with no reservation or plan, and was happy I was able to get a seat quickly.

The night I was there, the line to the bakery was healthy both when I entered and exited - at least 20-25 people. Many were getting their cakes or pies/etc and sitting at the outside tables set up by the restaurant - which were also popular with people grabbing a slice of pizza or deli sandwich.

I’m pretty sure I used OpenTable for our late night dessert reservation in November at CBS. I don’t believe it asked for a credit card number. Perhaps that has changed? I’m a regular user of Open Table and have canceled as late as an hour before arrival with no penalty.

Went for the first time last weekend. TLDR - I'd go back if someone I was with really wanted to but otherwise probably not at the top of my list. The interior is as beautiful as everyone says it is. The Christmas decor is very cute. There is an obvious attention to detail and they are not "cheaping out" on the details. We went for a late lunch and were sat 30 minutes late. I understand that can happen, but the cast members weren't even a little apologetic and when we were eventually sat there were multiple empty tables. Service was good, not great, and rather slow. Food was good but not the best xyz that we'd ever tasted. Didn't affect us, but could see people at some tables (we were in the main room) had to put their sunglasses on as sun was shining through the top windows directly into their eyes and there weren't any window shades. Overall, the prices and physical atmosphere create a level of expectation that we didn't feel it quite met in this initial visit. Willing to give it another try. Not "bad" by any stretch. For discounts they were offering a 10% discount for Disney Visa, DVC or D23... they took it only on the entrees - not on any drinks (alcoholic or non) and I don't think the cake was discounted either.

Must be new at CBS...

To further clarify for those who don't use OpenTable and those who have just never come across the situation where a credit card is required to make an OpenTable reservation, most restaurants on OpenTable do not require a credit card. It is up to the individual restaurant whether or not to require a credit card and how much of a cancellation fee to impose. The restaurant can also opt in or out of this option at any time. This is why there are so many posters here with differing experiences since CBS opened.
