Fastpass return or replacement?

I suspect they would have announced a date for implementation at least a few months in advance or, if possible, had both systems running concurrently to allow those that had already booked their vacations to still have the free FP+. Still would have been an uproar but anyone booking would have had an opportunity to know what they're getting into.

yeah that’s true

you hear people saying oh Disney are doing this paid system to get some Of there money back they lost during COVID but sounds like they were going to do this regardless well before COVID this was the plan

Just thinking out loud. Wouldn't we WANT the price for IAS to be very high so very few people use it? That means the vast majority of guests will be using the standby line, which means it will continue to move at a decent pace like we are seeing now.

I was always under the impression that they gave too many FastPasses per window, which caused the standby line to be too slow. Heck, sometimes the FastPass line was longish depending on ride operations. My hope is that with this paid option they can really limit how many people get it (either through availability or discouraging guests based on price) so the IAS guests are guaranteed an almost literal walk-on AND it won't impact the standby line like FP+ did. Only time will tell I guess.

I just want to know when this starts. “Fall” is not helpful. I have a trip planned mid-October. I’d rather not be scrambling to learn this while on my trip. Leave it to Disney to announce something major like this and give a nebulous timeframe for starting it.

I think without COVID, you would have seen this rolled out with all of the details at once. I think with the lack of FP+ and the 50th coming up quickly, they just wanted some information out now and more to come as we love along. I also think you would have seen on-site benefits like free Genie+ announced right away.

I'm guessing they want this in place for the 50th celebration at WDW, so Oct 1st onwards I would expect that Genie, G+,and IAS will be active.

I would hope they aren’t crazy enough to start this on 10/1, I would hope they would do it at least 2 weeks prior to work out any issues.

Yeah, my first thought was the same as twincruisers but the prospect of putting out a new, complicated system on such an important day and risking everything going haywire? Yikes.

One thing that has occurred to me is that one of the frustrating things about the introduction of the new system is it is, as others have pointed out, essentially a price increase. But as much as nobody likes price increases, this isn't only a price increase on future tickets, it's essentially them increasing the cost for people who already have tickets, already have plans, and will now have to make a choice as to whether they're willing to pay more for what they thought they had already locked in or be in a worse position.

It would almost make more sense to debut Genie *after* October 1, just so it's not running on 10/10 crowd level days. Let everybody there for the anniversary do standby lines and wait until it calms a bit to ramp up your complexity.

My guess Genie will be selling less then half of the BP for RotR. Disney will say most of the BP are available without charge.

Has Disney said they are keeping the VQ for RotR at 7am? In theory, they could have IAS (is that really what we are calling it?) at 7am, VQ at 7:30, and then IAS again after 7:30 at a higher price for all of those people who didn't get a BG.

My sources tell me that this will start in mid-October for the individual attraction selections (also called LL$ here). Specifically, Tuesday October 19th has been mentioned.

Genie and Genie+ are rumored to start after the IAS/LL$ rollout. In late October or early November.

All subject to change. This is a very fluid situation.

I'd imagine we will hear a firm date next month. I hope!!

Good to know. TP's live stream indicated the same thing, that IAS/LL$ would start first, followed by Genie/Genie+.

Is the RotR pay option included in the LL$ timing wise?

I think it’s smart to wait till after 10/1 but would be shocked if they didn’t want to monetize the 10/1 weekend.
