The Crown Netflix

I've watched 4 episodes, so not sure how they will continue to portray Charles and Dianna but I think they are making it seem as if it is all Charles fault, Dianna is just young and stupid. Notice how Charles is always stooped shouldered and hanging his head, the real Prince Charles has good posture. They don't show Dianna in any bad light except for the bulimia. Plus the contradiction of her going on the hunt the first time she is at Balmoral and enjoying it and then saying she doesn't like the country. Perhaps if she had shown any interest in Charles's interest they might have had a chance at making it work. I believe she knew before she married him that it was an arranged marriage, not a love marriage, do you think he ever told her that he loved her?

I am liking all the seasons, my husband doesn't like the new cast but he is still watching. I wonder who will be in the last 2 seasons? Maybe Helen Mirren?

Their relationship probably would have worked a lot better had Charles cut Camillia out of his life but he didn't and kept on having her close and sending her flowers and presents up to and after the wedding. Charles never committed and wouldn't understand why it upset Diana so much. Sure he might have not cheated physically until 5 years after the wedding but he was always emotionally cheating on Diana which broke her heart. The lack of emotion that the family has for growing children probably didn't help either.

Yes! An emotional affair is just as devastating as a physical affair, maybe more so.

Thank you so much.

I am thrilled to see Elizabeth Debicki cast as Princess Diana. In her pictures you can see she has an elegance and a "here I am" vibe.

Also, I so wish - and I know that he would hate this - that there is at least a full episode with Hasnat Khan. Many have said that he was a great love of Diana's (some say THE love, although it was clear to me that she loved Charles), and I would absolutely love to see that portrayed. In fact, I think it would somehow lessen the blow of sadness to come a bit. As much as that is even possible. :(

Would prefer it much more than following the Dodi Fayed angle, although I am sure that can't be avoided.

I feel like there has been a shift in the show. The first seasons with Claire Foy and Matt Smith felt like a more sympathetic portrayal. You saw the good and bad, yet rooted for Elizabeth, Phillip and Princess Margaret.

I feel somewhere along the way the show has developed a hatred for the Royal Family is portraying them as one-note villains now. Really unlikable.

(I could be wrong as I have only finished the 2nd episode of Season 4 but that's how I feel so far. I don't know why anyone would want a monarchy after watching this crowd lol).

I agree. That's the sense I'm getting, too. In fact, a lot of people I've talked to are saying the same thing. I wonder if they changed writers?

I've got to agree with you. Case-in-point: The episode 4 scene depicting a lunch date between the Queen and Prince Edward. Although next to nothing is really known about him publicly and even less was known during his childhood and adolescence, the writers chose to craft him as a priggish brat. Why?

Perhaps the writers of the show are just following the public perception of the monarchy through the times for the current season. The 80’s and 90’s were pretty terrible for the Windsors personally and it affected their public persona.

I have one episode left of this season. I think it’s been fantastic. They deserve an award for cinematography at least.

Interesting they're doing this now, after Season 4. Must be hitting close to home.

This will obviously draw even more attention to it.
They are concerned about raising animosity towards the royal family and possibly increasing anti-monarchist sentiments that could destabilize the government.

It is fiction. There should be a disclaimer before every episode, just like they have in other movies "characters in this movie are a fictional representation."

And whining about it publically fixes that...how?

Andrew is a bigger problem than this TV show IMO.

The first couple of seasons I HATED prince Philip. Now I hate Charles. He is just so hateable in this show, when he gets mad at Diana for hurting Camillas feelings it made me scream at my tv.

The royal family never speaks out, but the government does. And they have to approach Netflix about it, as it is already visible that people turning against Charles and Camilla. There were so many trolls reacting on their Twitter feed, they turned off the comment section.

I do think Netflix underestimates their public. There are plenty of people who cannot differentiate what is fiction and what is reality in this case. Either way they influence the public opinion of the head of state. It's technically propaganda.

People have hated Charles and Camilla since before the show, this just increased it.

Yes, it never fully went away. But I do think it was decreasing over the years. Especially the last years where you could see how much this couple loves each other and the focus got more on the work they do instead of their relationship over a quarter of a century ago.
The Crown pulls the UK back in time.

I'm not even sure I'd say it increased it--it probably just reminded people why they didn't like them in the first place.

My last post on this topic: I don't think the government has to say something, or at least do so as publically as they have. The Streisand Effect is likely to be much greater than any positive impact.
