A Question Before I Complain ... But I Might Anyway!

They make that much already? Really? If so, then something is up. I could have sworn that I have read that they made a $10 for an hourly rate. $17 an hour is quite surprising.

That's what I'm saying, they can't get enough people to do that job.

$17 per hour.

Can I ask where you are getting that information from? According to Disney careers the starting rate is 10.50 per hour not 17, and the sign on bonus is 1,250 not 1,750. That was information from jobs posted just a week ago so it's hard to believe that starting rate went up 6.50 in just a week.

I agree. And I mean no disrespect to anyone, but $17 an hour, from the get-go, is just hard to believe. It really is.

You think? Give them another $5-8 an hour raise to go with that and I bet their turnover would drop drastically. Its just Disney not wanting to pay what is needed to keep the help.

Well sign me up! I'd relocate to Orlando and clean deluxe rooms for $5-8 more per hour, with employee perks too.

I'm responding before reading ... I think your complaints are all valid, except possibly the towels replacement only because you placed them so carefully folded on the tub. The housekeeper may have be confused about whether you wanted to reuse them or not. We toss the towels we don't want to reuse (which, in our case, is all of them) balled up in a corner or in the tub so it's pretty obvious.

Honestly, all of the problems you had stemmed from horrible housekeeping. Every single one of them, including the burnt out lights and broken chain. I do think the optimal time to address ALL of your concerns was while you were there. It doesn't mitigate that you had terrible housekeeping but at least you would have had fresh towels, new toiletries, toilet paper, kleenex and a room in good working order.

I would take the time to make your complaints now. The management at the Beach Club needs to know so they can make a change for future guests.

Agreed and I don't mean any disrespect either. Just very curious where he is coming up with the 17 from since that is different than what Disney career site says. For 17 and hour I'd think they'd have more than enough applicants lining up for a job.

The OP stated that these carefully folded towels were taken away and not replaced. I think that means that housekeeping knew they were dirty.

My Aunt retired from her housekeeping job at WDW last year and was making $17 an hour when she retired. She still has friends there who got notices that starting March 1 sign on and referral bonuses are increasing. Maybe she's wrong. :confused3

That certainly makes more sense. So the 17 per hour was her final pay after working for years, not the starting rate which according to Disney is 10.50.
Thank you for clarifying that.

Ah, that's what I get for skimming the OP. Nevermind then ... it's 100% on the housekeeper and not 95% ;).

Right, that is what I was thinking. Maybe you must have been in the role for a really good amount of time to be making $17 an hour. I still think if their base pay, starting pay was at least $15-$16 an hour, that would knock a dent in the supply problem. I mean, look at Walmart, starting pay for new employees, $11 an hour. Disney just needs to pony up the money.

we hung up the towels we were willing to use again and folded the ones needing replacement and placed them on the edge of the tub. .

There is your problem. Toss those suckers in the tub all in a pile. no way to mistake that pile of mess with something neatly folded.

In general, we do not have our rooms made up but once every 2 or 3 days. We clean up after ourselves. have no problem re using towels 2 or 3 times. We are perfectly capable of making the bed each day.

If I need more towels, I will bring them back from the pool or front desk. And there has never been a housekeeping cart we have not grabbed extra shampoo and stuff from.

They are quick to raise prices on everything and provide less service- good for their bottom line. I guess they figure- why pay more to the staff? People will come to Disney anyway in spite of all these issues we're discussing. Between all the conventions, school groups, sports teams, and 15s, the resorts will stay booked no matter what.

That is a good point. I just feel like at some point it is going to come back to bite them in the butt.

Having said that, there is no excuse for continued problems once you brought them to their attention. Absolutely let them know. It can be something as simple as a certain housekeeper not wanting to do their job correctly.

Don't forget they are making at least 10:50 plus tips.

Yes I realize that however I still think that isn't much considering the work they do. They are making 2.50 less than minimum wage here. I'm not dismissing the OP's issues. She deserved to have reliable and proper housekeeping and obviously didn't receive that. I do think she should have said something while still there so the issues could have been corrected. Regardless of what the rate of pay is, housekeeping should be doing the job they are hired to do.

I hate it that you had such problems, I'm thinking it's not totally a BC problem though. We usually request no housekeeping no matter where we stay, I pretty much keep my room picked up anyway, I don't change my towels every day at home and I'm good with my bed not being made. I have had some bad experiences at other resorts outside of Disney when requesting things be refilled in the room. We were at a Sheraton on Jekyll Island and we requested no housekeeping since we had our dog with us. We also made it a point of asking for the hang tag on the door that we had a dog, which was obvious since she was greeting everyone in the lobby when we were checking in. When our coffee ran out we stopped by the front desk and asked for it to be refilled, every other Sheraton we've stayed at has hung it on the door if you requested no housekeeping. They told us we had to ask at the front desk for it, something they should have told us when we did the whole no housekeeping thing. We never did get the dog in residence hang tag. We don't use housekeeping at Disney either but there have been a number of times I've stuck my head out the door when I heard housekeeping and asked for refills with no problems. I agree with others you shouldn't have had to pursue the issue yourself but the fact is, it happens and should be dealt with at the time.
