Thank you for all the well wishes guys, and I'm sorry this installment has taken so long. I almost don't want to post it up because that means I'm almost done, only a few more left to go. But without further ado, I present to you -
Raglan Road
It was really, really busy here when we checked in, but to be fair, we only had around 10 minutes wait at most and we spent most of that wondering around the little gift shop. We decided not to buy any Irish merchandise as we live very near the port of Holyhead on Anglesey, and its only a 30min ferry ride to Ireland. Plus, we were going to Cork in a months time anyway! We were soon buzzed/beeped and a host came around to seat us.
I was really disappointed to learn that we were seated in a tiny dark cove, where we werent really able to see the entertainment, or anything going on in the main dining room (we were quite near the kitchen door). However, as it was very full, I didnt say anything and prepared myself for some great food. I had heard good reviews about Raglan Road so I was looking forward to eating here. Our waitress (who was not Irish by the way
) asked us if we wanted some bread to start immediately I said no thank you, as whenever someone usually asks you if you want some bread, you have to pay. Later on in the meal I realised we hadnt had any of the soda bread with dipping sauce Id heard about, and realised this must have been it! Doh!
Wanting some drinks first, I ordered a Sprite and a Celtic Sangria, whilst Els ordered a Guinness. Now being Welsh, I am Celtic, and I can tell you there is no such thing as Celtic Sangria - but boy was it good!! Els enjoyed his drink as he always enjoys Guinness. Im not sure about the States, but its readily available over here in the UK and he often drinks it when out or at home. Neither of us were convinced that it was a full pint though, the glass looks tiny!

So we ordered, and our appetizers came. I got the Seared Scallops:
Seared Scallops - Pan seared Georges Bank scallops served on creamed sweet corn and garnished with a candied lemon salad
I had never tried scallops before, which is weird for me as you know I love seafood. These were tiny scallops, but still good, and I loved the creamed sweetcorn that went with them. As far as my first taste of scallops went, it was pretty good!
Els got the Colpuccino:
Colpuccino - frothy Colcannon soup, a creamy potato, bacon and cabbage soup
He thought this was really good, and I thought the presentation was really cute too.
Now, I KNEW what I was going to have for my main course. I had known months in advance. The only option for a seafood lover like me was the Its Not Bleedin Chowder. I love white wine cream sauces, and after drooling over it for months on the Dining Thread, I was looking forward to it.
It's Not Bleedin' Chowder - It is potatoes, mussels, prawns, scallops and fresh seafood infused with white wine and finished with cream
And I was not disappointed. This was so, so, so good! The seafood was so fresh, and the chowder was not at all fishy. The sauce was delicious, and this is seriously one of the best seafood dishes Ive ever tasted. The portion looks quite small, but I was so full after the meal I still wanted to eat every bite however! Now I was glad we hadnt had any bread! Also, bear in mind this is not a typical chowder or a soup
this is seafood with a cream sauce.
Els, who doesnt eat things who swim in the sea, got the Serious Sirloin Steak:
Serious Sirloin Steak - 10 oz sirloin topped with Irish whiskey glazed, drizzled with gresh basil oil. Served with mashed potatoes and topped with crispy fried onion strings
He is a steak lover and he really enjoyed this. I didn't try this as I was way too busy enjoying my chowder and oohing and aahing over it, but I am assured that it was very good and would definitely order it again.
Now of course, its dessert time. By this point I am so full that I cannot move that chowder is more than it looks! But dessert is bread and butter pudding so of course we must have it! So that is what we order, each! Whilst we are waiting for dessert, the waitress brings our bill/check around and we sort that out with our KTTW. Then, the pièce de résistance arrives Gers Bread and Butter Pudding:
Gers Bread and Butter Pudding
Oh. My. Word. How good is this, I mean HOW GOOD IS THIS?! Let me tell you: SO SO GOOD! I was gutted that I was really full. This dessert is really heavy, so leave some room for it! I wish I would have been able to take it with me, but I didnt think that it would taste as good in a couple of hours. I managed a few bites, but had to stop for the safety of the people at the table next to us. We were both so embarrassed to have wasted our wonderful desserts, and since we had just paid the bill, we plonked down a couple of dollars on the table and made a break for it! Although I was seriously contemplating grabbing the cup and running.
ATMOSPHERE: Typical Irish Pub atmosphere, and it felt right at home to us, since we are so used to going in the pubs over here in the UK. The spot where we were sat let the atmosphere down a bit, as it was quite dark in that little corner, and we felt a bit out of it once the entertainment had started as we couldnt see. The waitress was polite, but didnt go above and beyond her duties, and if Im honest, I was disappointed not to have an Irish waitress as I was quite looking forward to speaking to someone from home.
OVERALL: We loved Raglan Road and the food was amazing. The portions are quite filling, and heavy, so we feel that appetizers are not needed. My appetizer was tiny and I still couldnt find room for the dessert! The mains and the desserts were just plain awesome.
H RATING: 8/10 (Possibly would have been higher had be been seated elsewhere)
E RATING: 8/10
WOULD WE EAT HERE AGAIN? Yes and yes. Weve made an ADR for August!
