Rolling thru the WORLD in a wheelchair on a WISH trip! 8/12 NEW UPDATE*CR CAPTIVES!!

So we are on the boat Headed to MGM. It was a nice ride over and the boys really liked it. We did experience our first "Why you gotta have a wheelchair? It's in my way moment" on the ride over. It was fairly crowded as it was EMH that night at MGM. We ended up on the inside sitting on the last row with Braeton in front of us. There was a couple sitting next to me and a family standing in front of us right next to the chair. When the boat took off the chair moved about a half an inch. I was holding onto it and the brakes were on so it wasn't very much. But the little girl who kept tugging away from her Dads hands was next to it and she kind of leaned on Braeton. Now he does have sensory issues and all the people the strange pace, and the noise was getting to him. Plus he was still not feeling well remember? Anyway he just kind of wimpered and went MAMA. So I leaned over and started talking softly to him and trying to show him the water and the lights. The little girl by now was trying to crawl on the floor. Now this boat was VERY crowded. I couldn't even move my legs without bumping into something. Her Brothers were laughing and pushing and the parents were talking to some other people and paying no attention. Anyway she bumped into one of his brakes which made the chair lurch right into my DHs legs. we set the brake and then she decided to put her hands under the wheels. I politely told her, Honey you will get hurt, those wheels are heavy. about that time the boat stopped and she fell into the chair. She started crying and the parents weren't very happy with us. We got some looks and 1 of them went so far as to comment that w/c should be on the outside of the boat. Well that's where we would have preferred, but there was no room.
Oh Well this is DISNEY WORLD we aren't going to let that spoil our fun!!!:sad2:

So we made it to MGM and off the Boat we went. We went through our first bag check. OH NO!! Not thinking I had hooked the backpack on the arms of the chair before I put the handle in place, so out of line I went and finally got the bag off. After waiting in a LONG line got the bags checked (took about 3 seconds:laughing: ) and off to the gates we went. We walked in and just looked around it was so neat. It was already getting dark and all the lights were on and everything was just too cool! We saw some "movie stars" doing their show and then walked on down until we found out where Fantasmic was. It was already full!!!!:sad2: Now MGM closed at * and that is when the last show was, but tonight was EMH so we were going to go do something else. We went to leaveand the CM said. We are going to have another show at 9 tonight be here @ 8:30!!!:yay:
All RIGHT so we looked around and was going to do TOT but all 3 of my Men did not want to do this and I didn't want to go by myself. Come on guys lets do the first thing together!! So we went and got our arm bands and then we just kind of walked around we got some snacks and checked out some shops and OH LOOK!! PHOTOPASS!! Hey the DIS says we GOT to do this so we did!
DisneyPhotoImage146.jpg

Notice poor Braeton? He just didn't know what to do poor baby. He was still not feeling well, but insisted he wanted to go do some rides.
So we went and got in line for Fantasmic. We were some of the first in line. We were the 2nd w/c people. When they opened the ropes we headed on down to wait some more. We were in front of a really nice extended family and got to taking to them. The Dad/son-in-law was in the Army and had been on several tours to Iraq. My nephew is over there and is also in the Army. so we got to talking about it. Anyway when they dropped the ropes a CM asked us if we wanted to sit on top or down front. The boys said DOWN FRONT. The CM let usknow we would get wet, which I already knew from reading the DIS. So a nice lady in a scooter comes and leads us down. Now I have to mention that I was very impressed with all the CMs in w/c. It was really neat. The CM that led us to the show was a younger man that had a powered w/c that he steered w/controls to his mouth. GO HIM!!! It showed that YOU can have a life with disabilities!!!:thumbsup2
Anyway this nice older lady leads us down this curving path and we almost collide a few times. It was kind of funny we had 2 run away wheelchairs!!! So we sit down in the very front, right in the middle. And we are ready for the show!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are going to really LOVE this!!! Right???

Great update LeeLee!!

I can;t believe that rude family on the boat. I am so glad you didnt let that ruin your night:goodvibes

The Fantasmic CMs sound great. So, glad you had a great experence with them.

can;t wait to see how the boys like Fantasmic:goodvibes

I'm with Trentmom. The hairs on the back of my neck started to stand up...grrr. I have gotten a little mouthy in my old age. I think I would have had to instruct them on their poor parenting skills and lack of courtesy to others. It helps though that I am married to someone as big as a mountain ;) . Not much chance of retailiation. LOL.

We are sitting waiting on Fantasmic and the kids are getting a little antsy. Well we had been up early had our breakfast with our gazillion potty stops. Had such a smooth ride and parking experience at the airport:rotfl2: , our meet with our wish grantors ad the ton of gifts, and then our flight with the meet of the pilots. Then the whole DME thing and finally to our room. Then the Yummy chocolates and the 1 bite meal. Then we had our boat ride where we got to observe different personalities and parenting modes!;) :rotfl:
And we are at MGM It's already into EMH and we haven't done anything but wait in line and look in a few shops. Soooo of course the boys are antsy, they had mostly sat on their bottoms today and they don't usually sit still very long. So Braeton spotted the *FLASHY* things. Allthe gismos and gadgets with the lights that are diesigned to look good to the kiddos and suck your money away from you. I don't know how he spotted them.:confused3 They were a whole 10 inches away from us. Braetons right wheel was @2 inches from touching the cart!!!:rotfl2: So after much deliberation and even trading a few times, both boys ended up with a Stitch space ship light up twirly thing a mu bob!!

Well by then me and Shannon had moved to the first bench in the row seating. Tyler was on the little bench up by the fence with Braeton parked beside him. Then the lights go out!!!
Braeton wants by us so we pull him beside us. It wasn't very crowded that night, so there was room around us. Probably because it wasn't on any schedule that day. We wouldn't have know about it except for the CM telling us and when she told us, she had another Cm go upfront and make sure they wrote it on the info board.
Anyway The show starts and I am enthralled. I had watched part of it on youtube which I kinda wished I hadn't as I knew what to expect, but for Braeton it worked out great. Before the trip I pulled up as many rides and shows as I could on you tube that I had read may have darkness, loud noises, be a little scary etc.... and previewed them, then showed them to Braeton to try to prepare him as best as I could. I'm glad I did.
The Water begins to dance and then the floats come out. It was so Beutifull!! Now here is where my DH takes almost a whole roll of film so I just take a few on the digital of which we STILL had not bought batteries for and it kept dying after each shot. Braeton is freaking out a little and when the mist starts spraying us that was it!!! So I pull him in my lap and try to shield him in the rougher spots. when the battle was going on Braeton kept his head ducked. But then at the end he really liked it. Especially when the Boats passed by and Belle blew a kiss and Pluto was dancing everywhere and then he threw out his hand right in front of us. Braeton thought he was waving to him. Of course he was!!!! The mist and noise was just too much for Braeton afer a long day.. If we ever got a chance to do it again. I would wait a day or two to bring him and I would sit him in the handicapped section up top. The rest of us LOVED it:love: Shannon wanted to go at least 1 more time during the trip. But would we have time???
Wishtrip038.jpg

Wishtrip042.jpg

A nice Cm came up and said that our escort was waiting by the gate when we were ready to leave. So up the curving path we went. UGH!! Shannon and I both pushed it was quite hard to get the chair up the curving steep path. Shannon could have done it, but all we needed was for him to pull his dialysis catheter while we were there, so I insisted on helping.
We got to the top and hugged our escort goodbye. It was the same lady that had escorted us down. We had such a nice time chatting with her and when we got to the top she had a bunch of stickers for both the boys. So then we head out to decide what's next????
BAthroom break Of course!!:rotfl2:
So after a 20 min BR break which was an experience in itself. I couldn't get Braetons break to set it had gotten wet and then when I finally got it dried off and set. and helped him potty and all then I discovered when I moved the chir I had somehow tangled his belt all up in the wheels. Anyway after getting that straightened out we headed out. Now all of this was so knew to us we were enjoying looking around. By then the plan was out the window for that day anyway so whatever just felt right. We looked at what was going on and decided on...................
The Great Movie Ride!!!

The CM asked us if Braeton could transfer Yes he could. In fact he was dying to dry his bootie off as he put it. :rotfl2: His seat was oaked during fantasmic, especially since he wasn't in it protecting it!!!:rotfl:
Anyway he asked if we would like to ride up front. YES!! He said it would be on the row behind the driver if that was o.k. Yes it was and then they told us it would be about 20 min so we waited and looked around and just enjoyed being together.
It was still so unreal to me, 3 days before we were waiting anxiously on the results to see if it was going to be transplant time and then that mornig we were broke and down to our last dime and here we were at Disney with plenty of cash, a great resort and a whole week to go!!:woohoo: Also I was really taking everything slow even our walking, because I was really getting scared about Braeton. He just wasn't right. I couldn't put my finger on it, but my mommie instict was on full alert!
So then it was time for the ride!!!!:yay:

I am loving your updates! Love the bootie saying!! :rotfl2: I was sorry to hear about the family on the boat. Some people just don't have a clue. :sad2: Fantasmic is a great show!! We enjoyed it also. :cool1:

Hi LeeLee! Nice to see you back on here, and I loved the updates. :goodvibes I was worried about Braeton when you said you were right up front - that is an intense show! Between the mist and the loudness, I like to have a little distance myself! Glad it all worked out okay, though. Looking forward to more, but a little concerned about the foreshadowing!

2 updates today! WoohoO!

Way to go Leah!

Your photopass pic is great! Glad you guys are finally getting on a ride!

Can't wait to hear more!

Great updates,LeeLee!:thumbsup2

Thats awful about the family on the boat.:sad2: Some people...

Glad all of you enjoyed Fantasmic. That is our favorite nighttime show.Sounds like you had fantastic seats.:goodvibes

Hope Braeton isn't feeling too bad.

Another great update Leelee!!

Sorry Braeton didn;t enjoy beginning of fantasmick glad the end was better

Still have not taken DS to see if yet..He doesn;t do well with waiting and that is a lot of waiting for that show...:rotfl2:

I hope Braeton does well in the front on the Great Movie Ride and it is not too much for him with the gangster/cowboy...:goodvibes

Great update LeeLee. I really enjoyed it. I think that rude family on the boat were darn lucky Disneymommom wasn't there (right Sharky)! The mama lioness comes out in me in those situations and it sure doesn't even have to be my kids. Ask Sharky about the night we went out with Penny and her girls for a DIS meet and how mama lion came out, LOL.

I'm so glad you didn't let it spoil your time but I'm so sorry she upset Braeton and got him off his milk. That's a darn shame. I hope his day got better and I hope you had a great time in Fantasmic! I didn't know they had a lot of CMs in wheelchairs, that is wonderful! It's a good lesson to be learned that you can have a good life with a disability! Thanks for sharing that LeeLee.

Another great update LeeLee. I'm sorry you have that nagging feeling that something isn't quite right with Braeton. I know that Mommy instinct is always right on but I'm hoping this time, for Breatong's sake that you are wrong and he'll be just fine.

I hope he likes the Great Movie ride, can't wait to read the next installment and see more pictures!

Great update, so sorry about the rude boat people!!!!

How great you got to see Fantasmic, you're braver than me though sitting in the wet seats :rotfl2:

Hope they enjoyed their first ride :goodvibes

So we are waiting in line when the boy in the next row asks if he can ride up front. The CM apologizes and says I'm sorry we already have someone by the driver so the boy asks can they ride in the row behind them and the CM replies again how about the row after that? Then the boys dad whispers something to him and the boy just kind of stares at us?!! Uh OH DID we make him upset???? I think he was probably disappointed. Of course after they asked us if Braeton was going to transfer then they talked to another family. Anyway I digress after a little bit of a wait it was time!!!!!
We all go to load up and I had my first experience of parking the chair getting Braeton out and getting in feeling like everyone was waiting on me, which they were, but oh Well. If you were in this line, I apologize. I did get faster, but I at least got in before the last row was seated!!!!
We were on the row behind the driver and I realized that if Braeton wouldn't have transferred we would have been on the same row, but that was o.k. We actually really enjoyed where we were at and the front row family was a Birthday girl Whose actual Birthday really was on............
that day!!
So that was good.
Anyway we enter the action and boy did the boys really love it!!!! Tyler loves old time radio and lately had gotten it to the ones of Mugsy and the gang and all the good/bad stuff, so this was right up his alley and when our train got taken over!!! They really thought it was real!!!
This is one of my favorites. I love the way the intersperse the real actors with the animatronic ones. It's great!!!!

We get through with this and Braeton is smiling from ear to ear, We walk @ and just knd of look things over, the park is starting to shut down and I wanted to leave before it officially closed,so we headed out. We were stopped afew times for different CMs to talk to the kids, seems like the wheelchair is a magnet! They were given some stickers and lots of well wishes. We kept hearing kids and Adults alike go LOOK!! His wheels how cool is that????
Braetons little wheels are on the back of his chair and they light up. When he was first getting fitted for the chair, he was 3 at the time and he wanted light up shoes. Well he couldn't even stand at the time, so the light up shoes were kind of pointless. I mean they wouldn't light up as they didn't have any weight on them. He couldn't even kick his feet. Anyway our W/C guy fixed him up and gave him light up wheels. Now he has light up wheels, light up tennies and light up sandals!!! We're making up for the whole no lights thing!!!:rotfl2:
So we get on the boat to go home and we sit on the outside this time. We are by a man and his girlfriend and there was a family standing up that were all wearing ballon ears etc... Braeton kept staring at them. Just before they were to get off ( I think they were at the Boardwalk, might have been Swan?) One of the kids whispers to his mom and they come ask me if Braeton can have his ears! It was so sweet! Then the man takes his off and gives them to Tyler!! I was teared up. It was really sweet and the perfect ending to our first day.
I was really feeling overwhelmed. I was very worried about Braeton. Scared he was going to have a major breakdown in his body and here we were in Fl. And I'll be honest here. Thankfully we don't have any flamers on here unless they are lurking, but to be honest I was scared. We were already off the plan and I knew we wouldn't get half of what we wanted to see done if we ended up just staying in the room or in the hospital. O.k. I did get over this and YES I felt guilty for even thinking that way. I know it was selfish, but we hadn't had any type of vacation before and I knew we wouldn't be able to do this type of trip again. Or for at least a VERY LONG time!!!
Anyway we make it back to the room and YES!!! Our luggage was there!!!!Along with 2 very nice messages, the typical one from the manager and another one from our nice front desk clerk checking in on us, making sure we were o.k.!!!!
We took our baths and crashed!!! No I didn't get everything put up. I was too tired!!!!

O.k. Guys I did have a few pics, but photobucket does not wat to lad for me so I went ahead and posted the update. I think I just had pics of the GMR so I'll see what I have uploaded when it finally starts to work and I'll post them then. I have another update I wanted to post, because of a cool pic of allthe stuff we got from the WISH or. But I'll have to wait on photobucket. I guess this is a big hint to get off the DIS and clean my house!!!!!!:rotfl2:

Leah:

I completely understand this. Sometimes your other children have to sacrifice so much of their childhood when they have a chronically ill sibiling. You wanted this to be special for everyone. If you are like me, you spend a lot of time and energy trying to make sure everything is as perfect as it can be for your wish child and the rest of the family, and it is hard to placidly accept set backs. I am sure that it isn't because you had specific things that you wanted to do for yourself at WDW, that you were feeling that way. It is because you had specific desires for Braeton (and Tyler), things you wanted him to enjoy and experience because that would bring him joy...that is what you didn't want to miss out on. I completely understand, and like your sig says...those that mind don't matter, those that matter don't mind...

LeeLee, I am so sorry about your mil. Sending prayers to your husband and your whole family.

Your trip report is great - thanks for sharing! Looking forward to each new post! You and your family are incredibly special. And I loved the family that gave your boys their ears! And grrrr to the nasty boat girl with her oblivious parents.

Thanks for the prayers. God is truly faithfull and I don't know how people manage without him!
Yes the family with the ears made the night!!! I actually triedto refuse them, but htey insisted and Braetons smile made thier night. In fact the other peole left on the boat with us kept commenting about it. It was a really a blessing since I knew he wasn't feeling well.
And you know the funny thing about the girl is the boys never even paid any attention to it! Of course their eyes were as big as silver dollars since this was all new to them!!:cutie:
