Hubby and I at store purchasing a new mattress. It's a smaller store with 2 employees. We were being rung up when a lady and her about 7 year old son walked in. Other employee got right up to help her, son went to lego table to play.
Mom proceeds to counter to fill out application for credit card on computer. We are still sitting with our sales associate when son walks out first set of doors, employee tells mom who just sits there.
Kid goes out second set to parking lot, mom told again and just sits there. Son proceeds to drop his pants and starts to urinate! While he is urinating he is spraying on our car! My husband says your son is peeing on our car, she sits there says he's a boy and no he's not. She couldn't see him from her spot. I told her yes he is we can see him. She then proceeded to say he's a boy and has autism. She is still sitting. He finishes comes through first set of doors, can't open second set and mom asks someone to open doors as she sits on her rear. My husband opened the doors. He knocks lego table over and jumps on beds. Finally she gets up, yells at him because he lost his shoes in store. They finally find them and leave.
None of us could believe the situation had happened. When we walked out to our car a few minutes later she came over without saying anything and dumped bottled water on the spot where you could tell he peed. My hubby just waved and we left.
We do understand there is a wide range of autism. We understand kids have issues where they need to go then BUT what is inexcusable in this situation was mom not getting off her rear and addressing the situation with her son or apologizing. The only thing we said was he was peeing on our car two times.
I guess I'm interested in how parents with autistic children would handle their child in this case? Are we asking to much to think maybe she should have apologized and gotten up to take care of the situation while it happened? The one I feel for in this case is the child for lack of parenting. The one sales associate said he had 2 autistic children and had never had an incident with his kids.
