Go Big or Go Home! 17 Days of Disney Dining! COMPLETE & Food & Wine Fest Index

Subbing for the continuous food fun!! Looks great so far. Sorry WPE was not a good as you have had prior. I hate when I build up something in my head and then it doesn't live up to it! Maybe next time!

Great TR, loving the food porn.

1999-Swan, 2001- Grand Floridian, 2002-Yacht & Beach Club, 2003- Animal Kingdom Lodge,2004- Grand Floridian&Disney Cruise,2006- Off site, 2008- Dolphin, 2009-AKV Kidani, 2010-Saratoga Springs ,2011-AKV Kidani ,2012 - Port Orleans, DCL-Dream & Beach Club, 2013 - AKV Kidani

What, no free chips/salsa at Pardiso?? That's crazy! I won't pay for them either. At least the fishbowl size drink was awesome! :rotfl2: After sharing more than one of those I would have likely snoozed during the movie. (Sorry that one wasn't good!)

I love the egg rolls at Y&Y, I think they may be the same at the CS?? If they are the same it's a much better bargain since they are $5.99 inside the restaurant.

WPE is my favorite DTD restaurant!! I've not had the meatloaf sandwich but it does look temptingly good. And those fries look pretty good too!

Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who is unhappy about the lack of free chips and salsa! Paradiso would fully win me over if they would just change that one thing.

Those stinkers, charging more for the egg rolls inside! I tried Y&Y when it first opened about 6 years ago and we weren't crazy about it, but so much time has gone by and I would like to give it another shot.

WPE is my favorite too. We always have good food there. I forgot to mention that the fries were awesome! I think they have my fav fries in all of WDW.

I give! I know you live close by, where is an IMax close to us? I thought the closest was the Franklin Institute or King of Prussia but both have been there a long time.

There is a new theater in Delaware on the Wilmington riverfront. It's called Penn Cinema Riverfront IMAX 15. Not sure how far away that is for you, but for us we are so close to the bridge that it's a very short drive for us. If you get a chance you should check it out! We love it there! Plus, it's close to some of our favorite food spots, so we always make a day out of it. They also show classic movies every Monday night like Jaws, Godfather, Clockwork Orange etc which is pretty cool since I was too young to see those in the theater on their initial theatrical release.

Yum...those egg rolls look delish. What time were they opening? The one time I had them they were cold so piping hot sounds good. And thanks for the heads up on th blueberry rum. It sounds wonderful but I too hate sweet drinks.

Great idea to catch a movie at DTD. I'd never considered that but it sounds great, especially on a hot day. Of course as the mother of a 2 year old I am so sadly behind in life that I'd never heard of either movie. I need to get with it ; )

They opened for lunch at 10:30am on the button. I can imagine that they definitely wouldn't be too good cold. Definitely avoid the blueberry rum! Save your money!

We love catching a movie. The only thing is that getting to DTD is always the biggest PITA, so it can be hard to get the timing right. Haha, no worries, they aren't the most well known movies, so it's understandable that you haven't heard of them. I on the other hand, spend waaaaay to much time (and money) at the movies. I need to get a hobby.

I'm sorry your meatball sandwich did not live up to your expectations! That is always a HUGE disappointment when that happens! From the description it does sound delicious though!

We definitely had that one built up too much in our minds. I think next time I would get it without the sauce and it would be perfect. :thumbsup2

Wow, 17 days.... I can't wait to read more. The movies sound awesome.

Thanks for joining in! Lots more food (and movies) to come! :goodvibes

I just read through all of your reviews to date, and I am in!!! I have really enjoyed everything so far - including reading about some places we have never been like Paradiso. Looking forward to more! :woohoo:

Thanks so much for joining in! :goodvibes We did a lot of places that were new to us this trip. We are starting to accumulate too many favorite restaurants. At this point we would need a two month trip to eat at all the places we want!

Hi there! Thanks for joining! We had every intention of eating about three meatloaf sandwiches this trip, but that first one being off kind of threw us for a loop. There are better WPE meals later in the trip. :thumbsup2

After the movie we made our way back over to the Marketplace for a super healthy dinner. Ghirardelli ice cream. :rotfl2:

Oh my gosh do we love it here! It has become a must do for us every trip. It is expensive, but it is worth it. There is no TiW discount here, but they do offer a 10% discount for annual passholders. Which is us right now! :cool1:

Their menu

We prefer to eat our sundaes there, so we ordered and they gave us a number to put at our table. Sometimes seating can be an issue, but fortunately we had no problem finding a table outside.

We didn't have to wait too long before the arrival of our awesome ice cream.

Rob ordered the Domingo

He loved his sundae and kept offering me a bite, but I had no interest. I had a lot of ice cream in front of me and I refused to leave a bite behind.

I ordered the Mint Bliss in a waffle bowl

:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9: Oh wow, this is so good! I always tell myself not to get a waffle bowl because it's too hard to eat, but then I walk in and you can smell the fresh waffle bowls and cones and it is impossible to resist. It clouds my mind and suddenly I hear myself ordering a waffle bowl. I have a problem.

The dark chocolate hot fudge is sinfully delicious. It goes so well with the mint ice cream. It's hard to tell but there is a river of the hot fudge under the ice cream. I have to have the mint ice cream every time. I don't eat it any other time of the year, but for some reason I have to have it when I'm here. The waffle bowl made it slightly difficult to eat, but I managed. :goodvibes

I cannot even tell you all how much I have been craving this sundae all weekend. These pictures are killing me right now. Why can't there be a Ghirardelli Soda Shop in every town?! Why can't I even have some type of good ice cream place near me? Okay, I'll stop whining. But if you are going to WDW on vacation soon you have to go to Ghirardelli! Promise? Okay, good. You won't regret it. :thumbsup2

Up next... another restaurant first for us

The next morning we woke up super early. We knew that we were only going to be in a park for a few hours in order to make it back to the room in time for Sunday Football. So the plan was breakfast at a monorail resort followed by a little time in MK. I called to see if I could get a reservation for somewhere I had booked for the end of the week and I was in luck. I booked today's breakfast and canceled Saturday's breakfast. We were out of the room by 7:15am and I drove us to Grand Floridian.

We had a bit of an issue with parking here. The guard let us in with no problem and said parking was to the left. I go to pull into an area and once I got part way in I realized it was the valet area. No one was around and I was easily able to back up a few feet to continue further down the road instead. Well, a valet comes running over to me waving his arms and screaming that I'm not allowed in there. Okay dude, it's not a big deal. I see that and I am easily correcting the issue. He tells me where the self parking area is, but is being very condescending and keeps telling us we should just valet the car. Rob HATES valet parking for some reason and refused to do it even though it's free with our TiW card. So, we drove past the valet guys and went to the self park lot. The self park lot was kind of far away from the hotel. Not the greatest system. I would be very annoyed if I was paying all that money to stay there, but had to park so far away. Very strange.

So, anyway, we park the car and trek back toward the hotel, passing Mr. Snobby Valet Guy on our way in. We walked around the lobby for a few minutes, because it's too beautiful to not stop and try and take it all in. Then we made our way, for the very first time, to Grand Floridian Cafe.

Beautiful floral arrangement near the podium.

We were seated immediately at a table by the window. There was a lovely rose on our table, which I thought was a nice touch. :goodvibes

The breakfast menu

Morning Beverages

And then we sat there. And we sat there. And we sat there. We were already a little annoyed by the valet thing and now to just sit there while every single group seated after us is already getting their drinks was highly annoying. GFC was not making the greatest first impression on us. Rob was just getting ready to go back up to the podium to say something when our server finally showed up. He was extremely apologetic without us even saying anything and he ended up being awesome the rest of the time, so all was forgiven. :goodvibes

To start, Rob ordered coffee, which I had a cup of too and I ordered the Tropical Splash which according to the menu is a refreshing surprise of blended strawberries and orange juice. Normally I hate paying $5 for juice, but I decided to go for it.

It was very pretty, but it just tasted like orange juice. Boo.

For our entrees Rob chose Eggs Benedict. Two Poached Eggs on a Toasted English Muffin, Canadian Bacon, and Key Lime Hollandaise Sauce served with Asparagus and broiled tomato au gratin

He really enjoyed it, but he was green with envy when my breakfast arrived and wished he had ordered the same thing as I did.

I got Lobster Eggs Benedict. Two Poached Eggs, Lobster hash, Asparagus, and Hollandaise Sauce

Yum, yum, yum! I came here specifically to try this dish and it did not disappoint. I love asparagus and it was cooked beautifully in the dish and there was a lot of lobster in the dish as well. The eggs were cooked perfectly and it all went together so well. I would come back again just for this.

Our first trip to GFC started off a little shaky, but ended up being very enjoyable.

After breakfast we spent less than 3 hours in MK, but we did a ton of rides in those three hours. We made our way out around noon and it was CRAZY busy by this point. Here is a screen shot of the wait times I took after we were out of the park. These times were the same as they were when we left.

Yup, you are reading that right. A 50 minute wait time for Stitch. The line for that was insane. I have never seen a wait for it and the line was something I would never have even imagined for this ride. It was definitely time to go. Can you tell I'm not used to it being busy? I don't know how people do it.

On our way out I finally found my family's brick out in front of MK. I have been looking for it the past 5 trips and I finally found it. Here I am with our brick. Ours is at the bottom of the picture, just to the left of Rob's shadow.

I wish they still sold these. I would love for Rob and I to have one too.

Now, we have to find drinks and lunch and make it back to the room in time for football at 1pm. Can we do it?

OMG that lobster eggs Benedict looks aweSOME. We've not ever done breakfast at GFC but loved our last dinner there. May have to give breakfast a whirl next time.

Loving your reviews. Can't wait for more and to see if you made it back to the room for football.

I need to try that lobster eggs benedict. It looks sooo good. I remember seeing your pic and wanting to try it.

Hey Jeri, I'm back too and have serious post-WDW blues

I just started reading but wanted to chime in and say that I can't believe that you liked the Key Lime wine so much - I found it super sweet and ended up throwing almost half the (small) glass away because it was making my teeth hurt (it didn't help that it was such a hot day that it got warm pretty quick). But, conversely, I really liked the Blueberry-Mango Rum Lemonade from Trilo-Bites - and there was LOADS of alcohol in mine - it all sank to the bottom. Gary and I were sipping away at it while waiting in line with our DS to see Doug and Russell. Gary decided he'd had enough and left me with the bottom 2 inches which was practically pure Bacardi :thumbsup2

Got to say, I am surprised that you passed up the new salted caramel sundae at Ghirardelli (although I can understand your loyalty to the divine Mint Bliss) - Gary tried it and said it was delicious.

I'm going to back-track now and catch right up with your reviews but just wanted to say 'Hi'

Now that I'm all caught up I have to say I'm so jealous of your 17 days in Disney World! I'm counting down the days to our next trip (22 days as of today) and your reviews are helping fill that Disney void in my stomach right now :thumbsup2

Thanks for the great reviews. I'm really enjoying them. 17 days at WDW that is awesome. The longest we have stayed is 11 days. Glad you found your family's brick. We bought one years ago when our kids were young that is located on the walkway next to the beach at the Poly resort. Looking forward to reading your next post.

Breakfast was great. I would definitely recommend it. I definitely want to check it out for lunch or dinner next trip. The dessert there sounded delicious!

Loving your reviews. Can't wait for more and to see if you made it back to the room for football.

Thanks so much! :goodvibes That review is coming right up!

I need to try that lobster eggs benedict. It looks sooo good. I remember seeing your pic and wanting to try it.

It was as good as it looked. I hope you get a chance to try it on your upcoming trip! :thumbsup2

Hey there Joh! :wave2: Hope you had a great time on your trip. Do you have a TR going on? If so I want to read all about your vacation. That's so funny that we had different experiences with the Key Limen and the Blueberry Rum Lemonade drink. I'm glad you got a boozy lemonade. They must have been saving it for you.

I REALLY wanted the salted caramel sundae, but it was one of those instances where I just couldn't make myself steer away from a proven favorite. I'm so bad about getting stuck in a rut with certain places. I tend to find something I love and never try anything different.

Awww I wanted a picture with Doug and Russell, but Rob never wants to wait in line for character pictures. That's why I need a girls trip with my mom so I can binge on character photos. :thumbsup2

You've convinced me... the mint sundae is now on my list. :cool1: I think your choice for dinner was perfect!

Yay, I'm glad you're going to try it! You won't regret it. :thumbsup2 Only on vacation is ice cream an acceptable dinner. Although, I've probably eaten worse at home.

Reading along!! Great reviews!!

I am a little late to the party but am loving your reviews.

The Lobster eggs benedict look delsih :)

We left MK and stopped at the Hess station by TTC for cheap alcohol. Here is a hint for you. If you want to have a few drinks in your room, but don't want to pay an obscene amount for booze at the gift shops or food courts, stop at the Hess stations on Disney property and grab some drinks there. They have pretty good prices on alcohol. The best one is the one by TTC, but there is also one right next to Boardwalk and one near DTD West Side.

Drink mission, accomplished. Now our plan was to stop at DTD Marketplace and get two pizzas to go from WPE. This was a stupid, stupid plan. It is hard enough to park in DTD, but with the construction going on, it is pretty much impossible. It was about noon, so I thought maybe we would beat the rush and manage to get a spot, but I was very wrong. I drove around until we ended up all the way over by La Nouba and at that point there was no way we would have the time to get our food and get back to the hotel in time so we left and headed for plan B. Art of Animation.

Unfortunately Rob was not really feeling the choices here, so we got back in the car and headed right next door to our hotel to check out the food choices at Pop. Our last resort was going to be ordering a pizza and paying a small fortune to have it delivered to the hotel, but luckily we both found appealing choices at Everything Pop.

I got my food pretty quickly at the station I went to, but Rob got stuck in line for quite awhile behind some very picky people. First, we witnessed a guy go nuclear on some poor CM because he wanted fries right out the fryer and not ones that were already ready. That is all well and good to want fresh fries, but he freaked out on this poor girl. She kept her cool with him though, bless her heart. Then a woman took FOREVER to order her food and asked 9 million questions about every single ingredient and vegan options and gluten free options and kosher options and every single thing imaginable. Then consulted with her two small kids for 5 minutes. Then called her husband over from another line to ask him more questions. Rob was ready to scream, "Just get out of my way and let me place my simple order that will take 2 seconds!" He and I were not blessed with any patience whatsoever and this food station was working our last nerve. Especially since I had been standing there waiting for him for 15 minutes with my food getting cold. He finally got his food and we paid for everything and took it all back to the room. We made it with two minutes to spare! Now we are ready for some Eagles football! They were playing Tampa Bay that week, so we were able to watch it on the local Fox channel in the room and didn't have to go spend a fortune at ESPN Club to watch the game.

Rob ended up with a Bacon Cheeseburger.

I swear there is a burger under that cheese somewhere. It was basic, but good. He enjoyed it.

I got a build your own burrito with house made chips

This was surprisingly good! It was on par with Moe's, for those of you familiar with that chain. I actually liked this better though because they had a ton of choices of what you could put on it and there wasn't an extra charge for anything. I got a pork burrito with 9 ingredients on it and they let me get guacamole on the side which I used to dip my chips in. I forget everything that was on it, but I remember there was roasted corn, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, salsa and black beans in there. I love build your own burrito places and frequent a local one fairly often, so I really loved this as a counter service option. It was less than $10 and was extremely filling.

I also had my Hess station drink. Another Angry Orchard Crisp Apple. This time from a can.

This went very well with football and a burrito!

Oh, and something I forgot to mention. Our room was without a fridge, which I didn't think would be a big deal, but it was a pain keeping our drinks cold. We had sodas, teas and water we brought with us, plus now we had cider and beer. We ended up filling bags with ice and kept the bags in the shower. That's not annoying or anything.

We also got dessert for later. Rob got cheesecake and I got a chocolate chip cookie.

This super basic chocolate chip cookie was actually one of the best desserts I ate during the entire trip. Who would have thought?

A good meal, good drinks and an Eagles win. Not a bad Sunday!

Up next... a late night dinner in Magic Kingdom

After the Eagles game we stuck around the hotel for the 4 o'clock game as well. While Rob obsessed over fantasy football I updated my trip notes and did my intro for this dining review. After a couple hours I was getting a little bit sick of football and was slightly annoyed that my entire day was almost gone. Disney time is precious. I have to listen to fantasy football talk all week at home and didn't feel like dealing with it on vacation. I wanted to do something, but it was getting kind of late in the day at this point. After the other game was over it was 7:30 and Rob suggested we go out and do something. AK was closed, HS was near closing time, as was Epcot. MK was open until 3am and DTD had plenty to keep us entertained, but with it being Sunday of Columbus weekend I knew they would both be packed.

Rob was very insistent on going to MK, but I didn't feel like dealing with crowds. Holiday weekend, plus arriving right before Wishes sounds like disaster to me. However, rather than fight it, knowing darn well it was going to be too crowded for us, I caved and made this a teachable lesson for Rob. Listen to your wife sometimes. She's always right! :lmao:

We took the bus to MK and it was PACKED! Here is our view trying to get onto Main Street from in front of Tony's.

It was packed so tightly all the way down Main Street that you could barely move. We finally made it back to Tomorrowland and decided to stop for dinner before Wishes started. Cosmic Ray's sounds good to me!

We ordered from Bay 2 which is Burgers and such. Here is the menu board for Bay 2.

Their seasonal drink here at Cosmic Ray's sounded good.

Rob got the Ham and Swiss Burger

Two burgers in one day! He enjoyed his second burger of the day as well.

I got the bacon cheeseburger

The last time I was here two years ago the burger buns were terrible, but this time it was really good! The bacon on this was nice and crispy too. Okay, I know this is just a burger, and I ate waaaaaay more delicious and interesting things this trip, but oddly enough, this is the main thing I have been craving from vacation. Weird, right? I want another Cosmic Ray's burger!

On a funny side note, this time we ate in the area where animatronic alien lounge singer Sonny Eclipse performs. For some reason, Rob got the biggest kick out of this. He didn't even know it was there and was hugely entertained by it. I just never know with him sometimes. :rotfl2:

We finished our burgers right as Wishes was starting and so we went out and actually found an area without too many people right on the bridge outside Cosmic Ray's that heads toward the castle.

Not a bad view!

Once Wishes was over we tried to make our way over to Adventureland, which was a huge mistake. I thought Main Street was crowded before. This was total insanity. We literally couldn't move. We were getting crushed. We switched directions and headed back towards Cosmic Ray's. The crowd thinned out a little in that area and we finally made our way back to some rides. Here I am late at night behind the castle.

The Cinderella fountain looks so pretty at night.

We did a few rides, but it was still really crowded. After riding POTC we took a snack break because Rob had his mind set on his favorite WDW treat.

That's right, it's Dole Whip time! I apologize in advance for the lousy pictures. I got a little lazy a few times this trip and only took pictures on my phone.

Here is the menu.

I got the Dole Whip Soft-Serve Swirl of Vanilla and Pineapple

This was good but I have no idea why I got it. I wasn't even hungry. Total gluttony with this order.

Rob got his favorite, the Pineapple Float with Pineapple Ice Cream

The line here was ridiculous. It was the worst line we've ever waited in at Aloha Isle. We did one more ride and then everything else we wanted to ride still had a really long wait, so we decided to leave shortly after midnight. Rob was shocked at how busy it was that late. It didn't shock me though. He then spoke the words I love to hear. "You were right." The crowds were worth it just to prove a point. Plus, I still had a good time in spite of the crowds, which is all that really matters. :thumbsup2

Love the Hess idea and grabbing some drinks there. We payed way too much for really crappy beer and wine at pop last visit. Was thinking of doing a grocery order this time for our adult supplies but will use Hess if (aka when) we blow though it way to quickly.
