Is Coronavirus affecting your travel plans?

This is just the beginning folks.

If a lot of people continue to travel against advisories, guaranteed this virus will reach all corners of the US.

With enough prevalence around the country, especially among the younger crowd who dismiss even minor flu symptoms, it can harm a lot of people especially the elderly.

Speaking of vulnerability, some early anecdotal data from Chinese studies show that people with heart conditions, such as hypertension (which a lot of Westerners have due to our diet and transportation lifestyle), are at an increased risk for complications from Covid-19. This was not a peer-reviewed published study, so take it with . But, there is some kind of association there based on the numbers.

Edit: The stock market right now is a classic example of what happens when people panic. The early warning signs from abroad should have been enough to cash out of equities in the short term.

I just want to say this is a situation where people take it and run with it IMO.

It's not necessarily STOP THE PRESSES here. What is probably the reason it made the news is because they did it on the airplane. Other situations it's been a passenger later on who went to their residence or doctors office, etc.

So when you say "this is just the beginning" it's one of those extreme type statements with a situation already having happened in the last month or so.

Probably the takeaway message from the article you posted and one that is IMO best advice is JetBlue's message of "that the airline is urging any customers “who do not feel well or are concerned they may have coronavirus to not fly until cleared to travel by a doctor or health professional.”

Do take into consideration 'not feeling well' can hit someone suddenly. So it's not always going to be someone who wasn't feeling well, got on a plane and yeah. Sometimes you are going to start feeling it while on the plane or after you've landed and you've gone about your day.

I am unsure of what to do. I have a trip scheduled for WDW the last few days of March and the first few days of April. I only have about a week and a half to cancel and/or change my plans. It is a trip for my Granddaughter and I really don't want to disappoint her. I am also wondering when i would reschedule because things are more than likely just going to get worse. We are driving down so flying is not in the picture. I am 60, my husband is 53. I have been waffling about this for a few weeks now. Any advice?

I agree with everything you said. Of course there’s been sick travelers on planes already by now
My comment of “this is just the beginning,” was referring to the fact that this style of dramatic news reporting will be commonplace in the next days and weeks as the cases continue to grow without pause.

China was able to get a hold of the situation because they implemented a complete lockdown with no travel allowed. Other Asian countries are faring relatively better in part because they are smaller. So, Italy, is also trying a complete lockdown in hopes of abating the growth.
The US is fairly large but we don’t have domestic travel restrictions yet.

Regarding symptoms coming on suddenly, minor prodrome can precede respiratory issues with or without pneumonia that will come on strong and sudden around the 7th day from cases we’ve seen. So, it’s important to stay low even with minor symptoms for at least a week. During that week, even minor symptoms can infect others.

IMO, you should only weigh your health concerns about this virus in making the decision. If you are not concerned, go. If you are concerned, why risk it? Life is precious. Your granddaughter will be disappointed for a while, but I am sure that you will find a way to make it up to her if you decide not to go. But I am also sure that she would rather have you in her life than a trip to WDW. :goodvibes

Ah yeah apologies it didn't seem that way at all :flower3:

It sounded way more like how I posted especially because you emphasized the youth and traveling and people not paying attention to travel advisories.

DD’s volleyball tournaments were cancelled, thankfully. We were supposed to fly to Denver today and then Spokane next weekend. We had decided to pull her even if the tournaments weren’t cancelled. We cancelled our spring break trip to Hawaii.

My MIL is a hospital commissioner in the Seattle area. Spoke to her yesterday. She said to go about our daily lives for now, but cancel all travel and non essential activities.

No worries. I could’ve worded it differently.
Main point is people need to adhere to advisories and restrictions. In this individualistic society, unfortunately, there will be people as noted in recent news who don’t take precaution in the interest of others around them.

Soccer games cancelled for our weekend coming up - in fact, all US Soccer regional leagues are suspended until April 15th now.

We're likely cancelling our trip to New Orleans for late March as well. Mostly because our friends' kids don't want them leaving them home without them, in case things get even worse.

Too much money at stake and if I was a betting man, I would say no. Disney if they were to do it, would've by now
NY Gov. Cumo on tv right now and is keeping Broadway shows open. Kinda get the point. Too big to fail
Now saying Broadway to reduce seats and will close effective today.

Anaheim issued a ruling this morning, no gatherings of over 250. I feel like that would have an affect on DL. And if DL closes, doesn’t it make sense WDW would follow?

Now Broadway has shut down for a month.

Sorry...missed your update

UPDATE (3/12/20): California governor Gavin Newsom announced in a press conference that the state’s executive order against mass gatherings will not including casinos, theaters, and theme parks, such as Disneyland.

But that’s the state, not sure about an Anaheim ban

How does that even make sense? Not asking you specifically, just thinking out loud.
