But I Don't Like Peas and Mushrooms! An Aug. '16 Dining Report *updated 10/13 Wrap It Up!*

I am going to have to visit Trails End For Brunch, Looks so Yummy!!!
It was! I really need to get on the dining website and secure an ADR there for Nov. or I'll have to deal with my younger son's wrath lol

Hi there! I'm following along as DH and I are going on an adults-only trip this coming December.
And holy cow that Trails End Buffet looks good!! My pal @Lisa F has been bragging about the Bread Pudding with Praline sauce at Boma, but I might just get DH on board with breakfast if he sees everything else Trails End offers!
Boooooo!!! Still have to show DH the pics from Boma. It's the only way he can decide if he wants to go someplace or not...pictures of food! :rotfl:
:welcome: and thanks for following! What @Lisa F said is correct, it's a weekend brunch so you could go Sat. or Sunday. Our server told us what isn't there on the regular breakfast: the carving station, the stuff on the table with the fried chicken, the shrimp, the smoked salmon, and any dessert that isn't a pastry. Think that's it? I believe if you look on the dining site it'll list the foods available at the regular breakfast, which is still a good selection! And if you end up going with Boma breakfast that's great too, we did that in January. And yay for your adults-only trip :cheer2:
My kid wanted to go to boma. that's how it got on the list. Yes, my child is a disney food snob (and picky too to boot!)

it's weekends, btw, not just sunday. not sure if that fits into your schedule.
That's great about your son! I love when my boys get involved in where we should eat. Plus,if they've picked the restaurant the can't complain if they end up not liking it :thumbsup2

I am a bit late to you reviews! LOVE your pictures! Isn't the Trails End brunch awesome! DS and I went in May and loved it. I don't think DH and I will get there in October. I really want to splurge on the Cali Grille brunch.

I have been debated Citricos and I think your review has pushed me to go ahead and book the ADR. We both love mushrooms and although I do not eat peas in their circular form, I love things like that risotto (weird, yeah, I know!). I really hope that flatbread stays on the menu!
Better late than never! I'm glad you and DS enjoyed TE brunch in May and I completely understand wanting to do something different on your next trip. I've read one review/seen pictures of the CG brunch on a dining report and that too looked yummy!

Go for Citricos :bounce: It's a great place, as much as we enjoyed the heck out of Narcoossee's I'm kind of sad we won't be going back to Citricos again in Nov. But I'm sure once we're eating at Narcoossee's I'll be completely happy. I know the flatbread was seasonal but not sure what season? It seems fall-ish to me although we had it late Aug. :scratchin

Hi there!!! I just found this! I am totally following along.

We "may" be taking an adults only trip and I am totally looking for ideas!

Trails End looks great. I will need to add that to my list for one day! I can't wait to hear what you thought of Skipper Canteen!

A little late to the party but following along too! Loving your report! Dh and I did a couples-only trip 2 years ago in October during F&W. Very fun! We have 4 kids and usually travel with all of them plus my mom and assorted friends so having a couples trip was so different and so...easy logistically :) Trails End looks awesome. Will have to keep that in mind...

Ok, so I may end up adding this for our departure day! Since we'll (hopefully) be at WL, this would be close by and a great send off. Definitely gonna add the ADR and then will decide later if we want to do it. Yum, yum! That would probably hold us for a lot if the drive home!

Yay for a possible adults-only trip pixiedust: We love them, and they're so much different than our trips with kids. The way we do parks, the amount of time we spend at the resort, and definitely how we eat! Trails End was as good as all the reviews I've been reading lately and I'm glad we did it; last night I was even able to grab another brunch ADR for our Nov. trip with the kids :thumbsup2

:welcome: Oh, I miss F&W, it's been alot of years since we've gone. We actually have 4 kids between us also, and I always feel guilty when I don't mention my stepsons (25 and 28) in my introductions :( I've never had to plan a trip for a large amount of people, so all I can say to you is KUDOS! And you must have alot of patience lol!

That would work out perfect for you! Do it just like that ::yes:: We were full for HOURS afterwards so you could definitely make it quite aways before you'd have to eat.

Great Reviews!!!
Thanks! Hoping to have the next update soon.......

Ok, don't judge me, but I've never had bread pudding. What is it? It looks good, it's just not something I've ever seen on a menu in Canada...

Have you been to Flower and Garden yet? We've been twice and I LOVE it! I'm hoping we go again next year since we have AP's again (ooh, a meet up maybe??) It's so beautiful and we enjoy the food booths throughout Epcot. Not as extensive as they are for F&W but still very good. I 2nd your
thought of upgrading to an AP and getting TiW, and the coverage of adult beverages is a big reason we like it.

And um, if I took my MIL to Disney there would also be much MUCH :drinking1on my end............

I have been to Flower and Garden, and I loved it! It gives Epcot such a special boost. It was a long time ago, and I really want to see it again. And if we happen to be there at the same time, a meet up is definitely necessary!!

My MIL, God love her, is well meaning, but so difficult to be around. You never know from one minute to the next if she's going to be sweet as pie or mean as a snake. This idea of mine could be the worst I've ever had, lol!!

8/28 SNACKS, DINNER

After Trails End we went to spend some time in Epcot - technically our first park of the trip except for a quick ride on HM in MK the night before! We tried Ellen before she leaves, rode FEA for the first time with a very short SB wait, and shopped/watched some entertainment in WS. It wasn't long though before we were both quite parched, being August and all........there's only one thing to do in WS when you're parched!

Steve wanted to go with our France staple, but we were so very far from there and I couldn't wait. I decided to try something new (excuse my hair in this picture, I know it's scary. But it was HOT!)

White sangria from Morocco

I love sangria and while I've had it at Restaurant Marrakesh, I had no idea they served it outside at the juice bar . It was really, really good. Steve thought it tasted like apple juice but he doesn't know anything-didn't taste like any apple juice I've ever had! It was pretty fruity though for not having any fruit in it. I haven't had the Marrakesh sangria since Nov. so I may be wrong, but this tasted different. Not better or worse, just different. We continued or trek making a couple stops and eventually got Steve his Grey Goose slush

If you've never had one before, I like to describe it as "sunshine in a glass"-or plastic martini cup. It really tastes like lemonade and to be honest with you, even as a non-huge vodka drinker I don't taste the vodka much! So it's obviously Grey Goose vodka and......something lemony which I know but can't think of right now and am too lazy to look up :D

By the time we got to the UK and stopped to watch British Invasion I needed something else, so we got a Bass Ale and drank it while listening to the band. I'd tried Bass before and I'm glad it was what Steve wanted, because I loved it. I don't have a picture of that but I'm sure you all know what beer looks like! However I do have a picture of the Practically Perfect Mary Poppins meeting somewhere I'd never seen her meeting before

Weird? Or am I out of the loop with character location moves?? Last trip we saw her over on the edge of the UK gardens near where Alice meets; this is back where the band plays outside of a store on the sidewalk :confused3

We were all over WS in no particular order this day, and eventually our breakfast wore off and we needed something other than adult beverages. We weren't quite ready for a meal though so we opted for something else in France

Ice cream from L'Artisan des Glaces

I got a scoop of coconut white chocolate and one of cinnamon, caramelized apple & crumble crunch, (that's mine with the spoon in it) while Steve got the apple crumble crunch and a scoop of banana-lime. As good as the apple is, the coconut white chocolate, IMO, is way better. I've also had the chocolate mint from there which normally I love, but the cwc is my favorite of all. Steve thought the banana lime was alright but I liked it, I thought the flavors worked well together.

After the ice cream we were done at Epcot for the day and went back to Wilderness Lodge for a bit. We didn't have an ADR that night but we were going to AK for some nighttime entertainment and my plan was to eat at Harambe Market. I'd wanted to eat there last Nov. but nobody else did.........

We arrived 6, 6:15ish. We had a 7:25 FP for the safari so headed right to Harambe Market because we were hungry! I knew what I was going to order:
Beef and Pork Sausage:

Fried in curried corn batter, served with black-eyed pea, corn, & tomato salad.

I know ladies, that's a BIG sausage!!! :thumbsup2 And it was one of the better sausages I've had. I love corn dogs and figured I'd love the batter, which wasn't as sweet as your every day corn dog but still extremely good, moist, and corn-y. The sausage itself was flavorful if not a tad dry, so a little mustard helped out. I also enjoyed the salad which was refreshing.

Steve got the Tikka Masala chicken

Served with rice, green papaya slaw and black eyed pea, corn & tomato salad

Steve enjoyed this and I LOVED it. I also just realized they have a tikka masala chicken dish at Yak & Yeti, so I think we're definitely going there in Nov. It was spicy but not on-fire spicy.

Steve had water to drink and I got another sangria, but red this time

Red sangria with Van der Hum tangerine liquer

Normally I prefer white but this was very tasty, and more fruity than my earlier sangria from Morocco.

We rode the safari at dusk and then made our way over to the theater for the first Jungle Book show. We went over to the Thirsty Bar across from the theater, and look what I found!

That's a Kari, or @kastoney as any of you avid dining report readers know. We watched the JB show together with our drinks - beer for Steve and I, a lemonade for Kari's daughter Casey and some very fancy pink drink from the Bar for Kari and her husband Jason.

Before going back to our room I ran into Roaring Forks for the 2nd of my 3 Magic Bars - and my night was complete!

Coming up next is Skipper's Canteen and our BESTEST meal of the trip :goodvibes

I can't wait to have another one of those grey goose slushies - so good!

You look great! I always look awful after about 10 minutes in Epcot. My hair gets huge immediately :crazy2:

you've never had one before, I like to describe it as "sunshine in a glass"-or plastic martini cup.
Yum!! And you guys look adorable!

the coconut white chocolate, IMO, is way better
okay that is for sure going on my must-do list. I LOVE coconut and that sounds fabulous!

I know ladies, that's a BIG sausage
:rotfl2::rotfl::thumbsup2

I'm so jealous you and Kari had a meetup! We should plan a dining review board Dismeet. We also enjoyed that new bar by the Jungle Book seating. Here's hoping Rivers of Light debuts soon!

I had the orange one when I went. My one complaint though is how awful the plastic martini cups are for carrying them around. Josh got me one while I held a spot for Illuminations and had to delicately carry it all through the World Showcase :rotfl:

However I do have a picture of the Practically Perfect Mary Poppins meeting somewhere I'd never seen her meeting before

No she wasn't there last time. If that's where I think it is Pooh and Tigger used to meet near there (well inside but near there). Maybe because their not there anymore they moved Mary Poppins?

I got a scoop of coconut white chocolate and one of cinnamon, caramelized apple & crumble crunch, (that's mine with the spoon in it)

That sounds delicious :p

Steve ordered the Roast Beef and Blue Cheese:

With lettuce, grilled onions, and buttermilk chive dressing on focaccia bread. Served with cucumber salad or house-made chips.
Definitely low on the meat to bun ratio. But it still looks delicious. Those chips too...yum.

Wild Mushroom Flatbread: with Truffle Cheese, Tomatoes, Guanciale and Garlic Crema
WOWIE ZOWIE!

French Toast Bread Pudding with Praline Sauce

Oh goodness, this sounds amazing!

Ice cream from L'Artisan des Glaces

A must-do for our upcoming trip. Oh man, I'm gonna eat so much ice cream! :teeth:

I know ladies, that's a BIG sausage!!! :thumbsup2
 :rotfl:

and look what I found!

LOVE her reports!

So excited to hear all about it! We have a Skipper's Canteen ADR for our arrival night :dance3:

So bread pudding......hmm....I don't cook so I looked it up in Wikipedia lol! It tastes better than it sounds. It's basically stale bread, cream and butter. It can be savory or sweet, like the french toast one at Trails End or the dessert one at 'Ohana. The bread is soaked in whatever liquid ingredients you're using - vanilla, syrup. Then other ingredients are mixed in - nuts, fruit, cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. Then it's baked?? Maybe someone else can explain it better! And the sweet ones are usually served with some kind of sauce over them, like ice cream, caramel, vanilla sauce. It did say on the website that in Canada bread pudding is served with maple syrup, so maybe you're fooling all of us and aren't actually Canadian since you don't know this ;)

The tikka masala was delicious! If you aren't doing one of the few sit down restaurants in AK I think it's a great option, especially if it's nice weather-wise since you can sit outside.

Sounds like my MIL a few years ago! Now she's actually done the opposite of what most "older" folks do, and for some reason is getting nicer as she ages???? Not sure why.....unless it's going to come back and bite me one of these days.......

Thank you! OMG I know it doesn't look like it in all my pictures, but I have the thickest hair :( And I think there's like 1.5 months out of the year in Florida that it doesn't frizz up to the point of me looking like I stuck my finger in an outlet!

I am up for a dining report Dismeet! It would be great if that worked out! Last year I met another girl I knew from the Dis who had taken a job working at the Starbucks in Epcot. It was a brief meet, just a hello, and she's not longer there but it really is cool to meet in person the people you get to know here ::yes::

I had the orange one when I went. My one complaint though is how awful the plastic martini cups are for carrying them around. Josh got me one while I held a spot for Illuminations and had to delicately carry it all through the World Showcase :rotfl:

Yeah those glasses are not the best for travel. I haven't tried the Grand Marnier one but I want to, I just can't get past not ordering the Grey Goose when I walk up to the window lol.
I think you're right! Mary was meeting out the back of the store where Pooh and Tigger used to meet :thumbsup2

A must-do for our upcoming trip. Oh man, I'm gonna eat so much ice cream! :teeth:

I know! I can't pass up the ice cream in France, plus I really want to try Ample Hills (tee hee hee), especially since we'll be at the Beach Club! Not to mention Beaches and Cream takeout window......man, I'm in trouble!

I'm glad we ate at Skippers, I think it's a great option inside MK since 2 TS are character meals, one is hard to get and another gets less than stellar reviews.

My DH is going to *love* that coconut white chocolate ice cream. Those are his 2 favorite flavors!

thanks for the review on l'artisan des glaces flavors, that is def on our hit list!

Your drinks sound and look so good! unfortunately heat and alcohol do not mix well for me so I had to forgo. Next time will most definitely NOT be in late spring/summer.

plus I really want to try Ample Hills

You absolutely must! I love their Oooey Gooey Butter Cake and Salted Crack Caramel flavors. And now I'm wondering why I didn't make a trip to the shop when I was last in Brooklyn :confused3
