Pictures of things No Longer Seen at WDW

The Chicken Curry Bowl from ABC Commissary. That place gets no love, (and 95% of that is deserved.) But this was a spectacular QS entree.

Yes. They operated until 1999. Below is a link to some history. I never liked the ride. It "removed the fourth wall" and in so doing, erased some of the magic. You could see "back stage" to areas that were supposed to be out of view. You could see parking lots. Delivery trucks. And the backs of buildings revealing just how much of a facade Fantasyland was.

But that is the best part. Lol!

That's all that matters, right?

Disney got quite a few complaints that the Big Red Boat experience was far, far from what people had come to expect from anything with Disney's name on it. The quality just wasn't there. So with the true Disney spirit, they decided that if they were going to have their name on something, they had better control the content and the quality. Hence, the birth of DCL at a cost of billions. The "low budget" comment wasn't meant to imply "inexpensive" so much as it was "done on the cheap". Disney's synergy with the Big Red Boat was about as cheesy as Warner Brothers or Hanna Barbera's characters roaming around your local amusement park.

By today's standards the ship was obviously pretty underwhelming, but for its time it wasn't a bad ship -I believe it(or at least one of them) was the original Love Boat. When I went on it they were pretty clear that it was a "partnership" and Disney's name wasn't on it, nor was it advertised as such. I don't even think they had characters on board ...but I can't be sure it was SOOOO along ago! But obviously Disney didn't like the lack of control and I'm sure they looked at the financial side and saw bigger opportunity running their own ships ...in addition to improving the whole experience. I haven't been on a cruise since -which is somewhat hard to believe thinking about it now.

Those crazy date stamps were rarely straight :) And a few years later they brought out the tickets where you had to go to the kiosk on your first day and get an atrociously grainy picture of your good self put on the paper ticket. I think some of ours must be floating around at home somewhere, probably best they stay hidden - I don't recall those photos being overly flattering!

I remember the ones with the picture! And I remember going to the Disney Store in the local mall to purchase them...

These are great-- planning my first trip back since I was a kid, and I recognize the old 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, skyway, and astronaut Mickey. In fact, those are about the only things I remember. Has it been 25 years??? I better get back... :)

My 4 year old loved Figment last year. He can't wait to ride it again.

What ride was the dream machine on?

The Dream machine was in the original version of the ride with Figment. upper right corner Post 137

Wish it came back. At least they brought Figment back!

(My wife and I never miss him.) :music: Two tiny wings... :figment:

Nope. The original "Love Boat" launched in 1971 as the Sea Venture and sailed for Princess between 1975 and 2002 under the name Pacific Princess. After that, it was leased out to Quail Cruises out of Spain. It has since been scrapped. The second ship used for exterior shots on the Love Boat show was the Island Princess. It began life in 1972 as the Island Venture and sailed for Princess from 1974 until 1999. Neither ship was ever owned or operated by Premiere.

It was not always affiliated with Disney. It sounds like when you went on the ship, it wasn't. When Disney was running cruises on it, the tie in was very obvious, and yes, there were characters on board. Couldn't miss them. So if the ship was not advertised as a Disney cruise, and there were no Disney characters on board, then that would have been a time when it had no relationship to Disney. After Disney cut ties, Premiere started running cruises with Looney Tunes (or Warner Brothers) characters. That didn't last too long.

ooh has anyone mentioned our good friend PUSH in Tomorrowland? He was such fun!

Oh yeah, PUSH was a riot. My son and his two older sisters were talking with PUSH, and PUSH turns to my son and says in his robot voice "Hey, know why you should be nice to your sisters?" My son stood there like, idk:confused3:confused3 (he was only 5). PUSH says "...because someday they'll have hot friends". Followed by PUSH laughing in his robot voice.... :rotfl2: I laughed so hard at that one. PUSH was awesome.

Just IN CASE anyone is interested, the above details the ships career that I was on with Premier Cruises. Acquired in 1988 -Wiki could be wrong, but the claim is that it was part of the Love Boat fleet while under the Princess Line. The trip was booked through Disney so it was a "Disney" cruise as a partnership with Premier. I don't distinctly remember characters, like a previous poster, but if they can't be missed I must have been one a few that missed them!

He was nuts.... we passed by with our honeymoon mouse ears on and he made some funny comment which had all the nearby adults in stitches laughing, something about us looking tired - newlyweds must not be getting enough sleep :rotfl: So funny and totally went over all the surrounding kids' heads!
