Pictures of things No Longer Seen at WDW

Totally forgot about this until RIGHT NOW but I am SURE that I was chosen for this as a child and was Ginger from Gilligan's Island... is that for real or is my brain making it up?
They definitely recreated the starting from Gilligan's Island and superimposed people's faces inside the life preservers while the opening song played. I can't recall if they ever recreated scenes from the show.

Here's what I found on line:

The attraction started out with scenes from a number of shows including:

  • The Today Show with Dave Garroway
  • I Love Lucy
  • General Hospital
  • Gilligan's Island
  • Bonanza
  • CBS News - Live From the Moon
  • The Three Stooges
  • Cheers
  • Golden Girls
  • Late Night with David Letterman
  • The Tonight Show
  • Howdie Doodie (Later replaced with Home Improvement)

An, of course, my avatar....

Step into the the Cinema for a short spell and cool off while watching Mickey and Charlie Chaplin...

You didn't always have to walk all the way around World Showcase. Once upon a time, you could take a bus......

And all of these include another oldie but goodie ... those super-stylish rental strollers.

The sky gondolas were around in the late 90s??? I have no memory of them! 95, 97 and 99. Granted I was little! I am going to have to ask my parents about this. Thank you all for this amazing thread :)

Yes. They operated until 1999. Below is a link to some history. I never liked the ride. It "removed the fourth wall" and in so doing, erased some of the magic. You could see "back stage" to areas that were supposed to be out of view. You could see parking lots. Delivery trucks. And the backs of buildings revealing just how much of a facade Fantasyland was.

Yes, they were definitely around in 1999. That was when I did my college program. They were there then, in fact, they were shut down while I was on my college program. I remember a CM died while cleaning them or servicing them when they began operating unexpectedly (my memory could be a bit foggy but there was definitely an incident). They were shut down not too long after that incident. I'm not sure that that the death was the reason they were shut down, but it couldn't have helped.

You are making it up. You've always been more of a Mary Ann.

My first trip to WDW was in 1992. I remember driving to Caribbean Beach Resort from the airport and my parents pointing out a bunch of people hang gliding. It was Surprise in the Skies which was part of the 20 year celebration. There were hang gliders, parasailers, waterskiiers, and giant balloons at each of the World Showcase Pavilions. I don't have any pictures, but good old Google Image Search was ready to help me out!
