Jonathan and I weren't overly worried about dressing up for the party and neither were most of the people we saw, but it became obvious very quickly that there were a lot of people who really got into it. As we parked the car we saw our first example and Jonathan said we just HAD to get a picture of this one.

I'm always curious as to the thought process here. You wake up one morning and think, "You know, I think I need to look like a giant mustard bottle."

There is just something about the way Disney decorates the parks during the fall and Halloween season that I enjoy. It always seems like there is something new to discover and marvel over. I wanted to spend some time while there was still plenty of daylight and take plenty of pictures of the decorations.

Looks terrific!

You can see from some of the pictures that the crowd is split over whether to dress in "costume" or just come enjoy the event.

I like to wear my "dad" costume.

I really like this view and perspective of Cinderella's Castle!

But still, it was interesting to explore what the future held for all of us when New Fantasyland is fully up and running.

Great update on their progress! Hopefully we'll get to see what it looks like someday.

We decided to head to the back of the park and start there. We decided to wait until it got dark to enjoy HM, so we headed into Frontierland to one of our favorite MK rides.

Good call there.

I almost need a plan to follow or I wander, and yes I think I did the same thing when I went to the party a couple of years ago. Last Time I went I was with Mary Ellen and Cynthia so we had a plan but the time before I was wandering.

I think when you've never been before, it is quite easy to get caught by surprise with everything going on!

Looking forward to the next one but I have a feeling I may be waiting a while.

Now for the update - stunning picture of Cinderella's Castle. I really enjoyed all your pictures of the festivities. What a great party. A ride on BTMMR looks like a lot of fun too! Love the pics!

I seldom go around that side of Cinderella's Castle, and it just struck me how different and interesting the view is from that angle. BTMRR was a great way to start the evening, but there was so much more to come for sure! Glad you are enjoying the evening so far!

LOVE the photos. Marv! MK is at it's best all dressed up for Fall. Have been fortunate to be there late October twice, but that was years ago. Have attended the Christmas Party a few times, and will again in December...nothing like being at WDW when it is all decked out for the holidays!

MNSSHP is my favorite...never thought it could be so much fun to Treat or a Treat as an adult.

Thanks a lot Christine! You are so right about having fun with the Trick or Treat part as an adult! I guess that is just part of the Peter Pan syndrome that Walt has instilled in all of us who enjoy what he created!

Never been to the Christmas party since I have always been after Christmas and over New Year's, and the party is over by then. In spite of the fact I really like the fall decorations, and enjoyed MNSSHP, I still enjoy the Christmas holiday and decorations at Disney even more!

Yeah, I haven't developed that thought process yet apparently!

Chapter 10 – MNSSHP (Party Time)



It was time for the actual MNSSHP events to begin. It didn't take me long to realize I was sorely unprepared on how to attack this Disney event. I guess I was thinking that Magdalene and Katharina would know what to do and I would just hang out with them, and go wherever they went. But unfortunately there was still a little time before we were supposed to meet up. Jonathan and I would have to go it alone for a while and try to make the best of it.

Leaving BTMRR it just made sense during a Halloween Party to head over to, what else, the Haunted Mansion. On the way we found these guys and decided to stop and listen a few minutes. They weren't the Voices of Liberty, but they were still pretty good!

I expected a lot of special effects and new things at HM and wasn't disappointed. It really helped that it was already getting dark and that added to the experience. Special lighting (and shadows), fog machines, and even sounds (the clippity clop of a horse walking on a cobblestone street when you were near the horse drawn hearse) all made for a special experience.

Here is something you don't normally see as you're walking in.

Looking back across the water at BTMRR where we had just come from.

Even the tombstones looked eerily different with the special lighting and fog.

After a fun ride (where I wish I had paid more attention because of the parade later) we headed out past a few more special touches.

From there we had to make sure we took a ride on Space Mountain. It seemed a little Halloweenish, even though I guess being in the dark there is nothing any different from all other rides. But being a Halloween party, it seemed like it anyway. And hey, with only a 10 minute wait in Standby, who can resist THAT???

Here is a pic showing that some people took the costuming a little more seriously than others. So cool to see Tinkerbelle, Mr. Incredible, and a "mini" Minnie out enjoying the evening.

It was getting near time to meet Katharina and Magdalene so we headed back towards Main Street. I think I was texting back and forth with Magdalene and she said they were headed that way. While I waited I had another good excuse to take more pictures.

We planned to watch the second parade together after the fireworks so I tried not to be too distracted by the early one that I saw passing by. Unfortunately Chip and Dale caught my eye.

Right after that Magdalene and Katharina arrived so Jonathan got to play photographer once again, and document how thoroughly we got into the costuming for MNSSHP!

I'm not sure what got us so tickled, whether it was something one of us said or something Jonathan said, but apparently we were really enjoying being together.

And then it was time for HalloWishes, so we grabbed a spot to enjoy the special fireworks.

After HalloWishes we knew we had a little bit of time before the second parade so we took our time heading off to find a good viewing area, letting some of the mob who was heading for the exit or elsewhere in the park clear out. Time for another quick pic.

There was some confusion about when the second parade started so we were actually early to claim a spot. With extra time to burn we had plenty of time to get comfortable. I felt sorry for Magdalene as she tried to find a way to gracefully sit on the pavement wearing a skirt, without showing off more of her "costume" than she wanted to. She pulled it off pretty well and we started our countdown to the start of the parade.

While we waited I was thinking about some of the trip reports I had read on the DIS about MNSSHP. It seems like everyone I had read lamented the fact that nobody seemed to be able to get a good picture of the Headless Horseman that marks the start of the Boo To You parade. I was determined to succeed at this one thing and thought my way through the process over and over until I was sure I would be able to pull it off.

Finally the time arrived for the parade to start, and in the distance you could hear the horse making its way towards us. I positioned myself and was sure I had the settings correct on my camera, and the focus just like I needed it to catch that perfect picture. I would probably only get one shot at it because of the low lighting, so everything had to come together perfectly.

So, how did I do?

Well, it could have been worse but unfortunately I was a little early taking the picture. But did I take it early enough to get a second chance at it? I will leave you all with that question until next time.
