Rides, Slides, Eats & Meets Oct DISmeet Trip. 5/6-Ch 14 Closing Thoughts

Great wrap-up of the parade, Marv. You got some really great pictures.

I can't say that I'll miss the Main Street Bakery because in all of our visits there, we NEVER ate there. I'd get a cappuccino, but we never got a treat. I will say that I am very happy to have Starbucks, but then you know my love of the coffee.

I hate last days. They always stink. :(

Nice update Marv. That show looks like a lot of fun! I really did to get a close up spot and watch it in October. I always enjoy it in everyone's pictures, but I never seem to watch the whole thing myself.

Drooling a little bit over that pastry right now! :rolleyes1:rotfl2:

had to make a quick detour and low and behold look what i stumbled across a marv update...

you got some really good pics marv

back to my DIS hiatus now...:sad2: just really busy with things right now...looking forward to more...and maybe a new marv trip in the future to read about every few months.
:)
Thanks for stopping by Dan! :yay: You have been missed around here, but I sure understand the busy thing! :sad2:

Well Well Well Didn't even wait for the top of the page this time.

The Villain mix and mingle is a great show to cap off the night.

That last walk down Main street is always so sad and on a party night it just seems so bad.

But at stop at now the "old" Main street bakery for one of those yummy cinnamon buns makes it hurt just a little bit less.

Yeah Yeah - Starbucks is there now and I have eaten there but the bakery goods from the "old" Main street bakery were the best. The only thing I remember as being better or even the same was the Sara Lee spot that I think was where the Ice Cream parlor is now?
No time to wait for the top of the page. I guess this TR has been dragging along way too long. I really need to put an end to it and move on.

Yes, the Main Street Bakery will be missed. Those cinnamon rolls were wonderful!

Yes the torpedoing started with a SLIP!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I do my best to upset you and Glenn !! I see you both have given up on TOP of the page updates :rotfl2:

Either that or it will be considered an Ancient Document that was saved by the Arabic Libraries !!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:
Well, not THAT ancient, but I have dragged it out pretty well.......... :guilty:

Great Parade shots and that last walk down Main Street is soooo hard !!! Oh and thanks for the shout out , but I thought Glenn had a update with 0 judy's:rotfl2::rotfl2: Hence the "WHAT":rotfl2:
Yes, that last walk down Main Street is almost as bad as that airport ride on DME or the faux monorail heading out to catch your flight!

Thanks Kathy!

You love Starbucks? Who knew??? :confused3

Yes, it takes an awful lot for a final day to ever be a good thing.

Thanks Mary Ellen! It was an interesting show, but the best part may have been that it helped put off the inevitable.......... :rolleyes1

Yes, those cinnamon rolls were the best!!! :thumbsup2

Really I am so shocked to learn that Kathy loves Starbucks:lmao:You would have thought she would have mentioned it before;):confused3:lmao:

I've certainly been to the "new" Starbucks and while I certainly like my coffee it's just wrong there isn't a single relic pastry in there. Not a single unique thing. I am glad the cinnamon rolls are at least at Gaston's but there was far more to the bakery than just the cinnamon rolls.

I think it's cool that they have a show where the villains are the stars! :thumbsup2

Yeah, I'm with you on the Main St. Bakery thing. Not sure why they couldn't have the best of both worlds. Coffee and bakery items. :confused3

Judge Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame

I'm glad you explained who this guy was, because I really had no clue. :rotfl2:

Since Jonathan and I were leaving rather early the next morning we decided to stop at the Main Street Bakery and grab one of these for breakfast. I sure hate that isn't possible anymore and the Starbucks Coffee commercialism has taken over. I’m not against the Starbucks, and will probably put it to good use in the future, I just wish it didn’t replace the Main Street Bakery. I have had a lot of yummy trips into that place.

Agreed 100%. :sad2:

Thanks Kathy! Yes, last days stink, and so do goodbyes. :(

The show was different, and fun!

I had a few different items from the bakery, but those cinnamon rolls were amazing, especially at the end of the day when they would give you any left over icing......... :cool1:

Absolutely! I enjoyed sandwiches and many other items from the bakery, besides cinnamon rolls. It is disappointing that all they have now seems to be just standard, average stuff. :(

Yes, that show is unique and has a different slant than most Disney attractions, which makes it really cool!

I was really hoping they would keep most of the original bakery intact, and maybe add an additional section for the Starbucks fans. I hate that they took it all away, and along with it choices. :rolleyes2

I'm glad you explained who this guy was, because I really had no clue. :rotfl2:

Agreed 100%. :sad2:
Well I have to admit, I had a clue but it wasn't correct. I'm glad I looked it up before I posted so I didn't have someone come along and correct me........

Chapter 14 – Closing Thoughts

After slowly strolling down Main Street, and exiting MK through the turnstiles, we all knew the inevitable had come.....the time that we all had to say goodbye! Our trip had come full circle from that initial meeting and greeting as DISfriends, to departing after four days together as what felt like real friends based on so much time together. And that brings me back to what I posted early in this portion of the TR about the day we met in front of Soarin'. As a reminder, I am posting that portion of the update again here.

When Katharina walked up I greeted her with a hug like I did Magdalene, but this time I felt like Katharina wasn't quite as receptive. Now I don't share this to embarrass Katharina in any way, but to discuss things you can run into at times with different cultures. I wasn't sure if I had overstepped my bounds, or violated some protocol of German culture, or just caught Katharina by surprise.

It wasn't anything really that Katharina did. I didn't know if hugs were something we often do so easily as a greeting in the United States that isn't quite as common in Germany. But Magdalene didn't seem to have a problem with it, so maybe it was because Katharina is married and that caused the difference? I know Magdalene is a little more outgoing here on the DIS and maybe I just caught Katharina by surprise, or maybe she was just a little less comfortable showing outward expression like that and a little more shy? I just hoped I hadn't offended her and strained International Relations in some way and told myself I might need to be a little more careful since not every culture, or even everyone in any particular culture, is necessarily the same.

(Now before anyone gets upset with me about this little revelation of my initial interaction with Katharina I have talked this over a little with Magdalene and I think I have some additional light to shed on this topic, but that will come later in the trip report, so you will just have to wait for the final analysis.)

Magdalene is the more visible sister here on the DIS, and we have all probably gotten to know her a little better with time than we have gotten to know Katharina. So during this trip, it might have been easy to spend more time with Magdalene, but I had made a conscious decision not to do that. First of all it would have been rude to focus predominantly on Magdalene and essentially ignore Katharina, but also this was a great opportunity to get to know Katharina better and I really wanted to take advantage of it. There were times Magdalene would engage Jonathan in conversation as they led us through the parks, and I would take that opportunity to walk along with Katharina and have some really interesting and sometimes funny conversations with her. I was really happy I got to spend this time with Katharina and I felt like I got to know her better and find out that she is quite enjoyable to spend time with. In the future if any of you get a chance to spend time with Katharina and get to know her better I would highly recommend it. You will certainly be enriched by the experience.

Now, back to the reason for repeating what happened during that initial meeting. As we reached the point where Magdalene and Katharina would head towards the busses for their return trip to The Boardwalk, and Jonathan and I were headed for the monorail and the parking lot to retrieve our car, it was time to say goodbye. As I hugged Magdalene goodbye, I couldn't help but flash back to the earlier meeting with Katharina and wonder exactly how I should handle it this time around. But I was worried for no reason. As I turned to Katharina, she moved towards me and gave me a goodbye hug. As much as it hurt to finally say so long to what I felt had become good friends, I left with the wonderful feeling that Katharina and I had gotten closer and I had two sisters in Germany that were now good friends.

Jonathan and I had an uneventful end to our trip. We got up early the next morning, had our cinnamon roll and maybe a little more from the breakfast bar in the hotel, and then we were on our way home. And with that our trip, and this TR, finally come to an end.

Saying goodbye is always a sad thing to do. I guess I have kept this TR going for so long, in a way it is hard to see it end. But life is filled with changes, and the time has come to move on to the future and the journeys to come. With no future trips planned for marvali, and life with the twists and turns it throws us, it is time to say goodbye for now.

But always remember, you never know where Ol' Marv will show up again. Just like Roz……….

I'm watching, alllllllllways watching!!!

This is a great ending to your TR. It's so wonderful when DISers become old friends in such a short period of time! I feel like the DIS boards have afforded me the opportunity to meet a wonderfully diverse group of people where we all share a common thread. It's just such a wonderful experience.

marvali;5137676 But always remember said:

:rotfl2: That makes me a little nervous! :rotfl2:

Marv Great ending thoughts !!! I know people have the same experience with me I am so shy and withdrawn:confused3:goodvibes:rotfl2::rotfl2: I enjoyed my brief meeting with them both watching Illuminations !!!:goodvibes

Hi Marv, how very sweet of you! it was so nice to meet you both and get to know you better! It would be so nice to meet again, but as I don't have any trip planned to the US in the foreseeable future, I think you should start thinking about a trip to Europe ;)

Great wrap-up Marv!

I haven't had the good fortune to meet Magdalene and Katharina in person (yet), but through our interactions here on the DIS I know what wonderful people they are and I'm sure that I could get some great European travel advice when the time comes that I can head back that way. The DIS sure helps us to make friends on a global scale! :goodvibes

Huh, it still lets one comment even after being completed. Great story of surprising Rosie!! I love it! Won't it be fun to meet up next year??!! Hopefully, we won't have to go into stealth mode...

As I have already said my P &P trip next year is gonna be when you are there , and I see Patty on Tuesday and tell her , so if you can give me an idea of when in October as soon as you know I would be eternally grateful. I am just assuming Marv and Pat will join us all !! I may even try talking Michael into coming and then he could do the Irish Jig for us all :rotfl2:

My trip dates are October 10-22. Not sure which resort yet.... but that's the BFP as it stands. Yes, several fun folks are trying to work things out to come. Should be a blast! On a side note, not sure WHY this thread is even open at all! Aren't completed one closed for commenting?
