How close is this to the port? Could we walk there? Also do you know if they allow kids?[/QUOT
With the new pier, I think it is in walking distance but check the site

Here is the link: Blandy Wine lodge

If I remember correctly, they allowed children but did not allow them to taste. Cost is now 5.5 euros per adult and not sure if will now charge for the children though did not in the past. One did however have to make reservations on the Old Blandy website for the tour.

Hi Everyone

I know I haven't posted in a while but so excited today. I was able to book a meal on June 1 at TICKETS in Barcelona. This restaurant is owned by Albert and Ferran Adrià, who owned ElBulli, the number 1 restaurant in the world for many years. They book 60 days in advance only and fill up the day it is available, much like Disney Dining. Cant wait for that experience to top off our incredible cruise.

Well I survived hosting our first holiday at my house. I got to use all our new fancy china and crystal we got as wedding presents. It was a blast until I had to hand wash them all! All our Easter baskets were Disney cruise themed and contained stuff I made for our cruise like magnets for the door, lugguae tgs, etc. The Easter bunny also put pins to trade in all of the eggs. Little sister and I tried on and picked dresses to bring. We also discovered we own a lot of the same dresses so we decided to go with it and will match on some nights....Guess my Mom dressing us alike as kids played a role....

Biggest lesson from the weekend, I got along fine with my sister for three days so hoping we can do it for 14+ days! And my nieces are cute and excited.

It was nice to talk and plan the vacation, it seems so close and real!

30 day shred is going well and I started a 30 days squat challenge, hopefully it will pay off!
Sounds great! Except for having to hand wash the crystal :headache:

Yay! Then it was worth me posting it! :thumbsup2

Welcome aboard, Teri! We are in a similar situation as our daughter turns 3 right after disembarkation. When I took her on the Magic in November we were definitely too young (as we were for WBTA in 2011 at age 15 months) but what Paul said is correct from what I have read multiple places about kiddos on the verge of turning 3. Even so, in November we never used Flounders but did go to the "open" hours of the 3+ kids club where I could accompany her... just never left her then because still so young. This time we might have a chance of leaving her.

The most current info is kept updated on pages 1-2 of this thread so don't stress much about reading all of the pages of this or the part 1 thread --- some of us like myself had booked this cruise on opening day in January 2012 and have been posting since then. Also, we have had people pop on and off the rollcall, or someone make a post with a question and then a lurker PMs them different info that has caused concerns - so do not be surprised if someone sends you a PM versus posting here (and in some cases, take it with a grain of salt because for example DCL may say a certain night is "casual" but someone may PM that you need to wear dressy clothing - not sure why PMs are flying around versus just making a post public - I have linked official DCL dress code on first post a while back). You can send a PM when you have ten posts on DIS. And don't worry about being a newbie - we all were at some point - hopefully we are all here to help one another out to help make this an even more magical vacation for all families. :) I know the helpful advice of other cruisers prior to our first DCL cruise was of tremendous help to me (and we have "cruised around" --- don't cruise specifically on DCL - have two other cruises this year on other lines booked but the posts from others about DCL things helped us out a lot as well as how to manage a longer cruise with children).

If you want me to add you to the hotel post I can do that as well, just let me know (link on first page) but get signed up for events ASAP as deadlines are quickly approaching! All of the events are on page one - so really check out those deadlines.

Again, welcome aboard!! Less than seven weeks to go ---- YAY!!!! :cool1:
Welcome

So I went to my mailbox today and got so excited when I saw a nice thick envelope. I started to do the "I got my cruise docs dance" my heart was going real fast and I was so happy. Then I realised that it was just junk mail. I did not know I could hate junk mail so much.

Morning,

Just to let you know that the Wine tour is very walkable from the dock. In fact it's one of the first building on the Main Street avenue, you can easily see this if you look on google earth, it's directly across the street from a nice restaurant which can easily be spotted as it is triangular in shape.

The tour address is the Avenue Arriaga 28, Funchal.

As for children, I emailed them and got an answer back in minutes, The children can of course do the tour from ages 6 to 15 the price is 2.75 euros.

Champagne Girls Update

We have had several ladies volunteer their husbands for "cabana boys so the positions have been filled.

I wonder how many "boys" actually know they have been volunteered for this event. Well boys you'll be lucky to get out of there alive!
Noel posted a picture of a nice Haiwian shirt, she omitted to post a picture of the skin tight shorts they want you to wear.
Ladies play nice and hands off!! :rotfl2: just joking of course.

Thank you so much for the information!! We definitely want to do this! Are you doing the tour? If so what time? Anybody else wanting to do this with us?

Hi there,

I am booked for 14:30 which allows enough time to get off the ship and wander into town, use the various free wifi to contact my family in Europe and then do the Monte by cable car some shopping and then finish the day with the tour and a short stroll back to the ship. Madeira is a lovely island to visit for a day!!

I don't care for champaign but cabana boys now has my interest! I prefer tan with abs and no shirts lol
:rotfl:

I'm suddenly sad that I don't drink :lmao:

Final reply from alma at dcl

" sorry, not offering mojito tasting".

That was it, no reason or explanation, just straight to the point. I must say I'm really surprised by this none customer service, you have 30 people willing to pay $20 for a tasting on a 14 day cruise with 11 sea days, doesn't seem to me too much of a problem to arrange, I'm a little mystified

Sarah,

Can I suggest you post the email address then we can all ask individually. I suggest we ask are we just a numer after all. They do tasting on RCCI, do I have to take or business there?

Stevie

We did a public (for pay) mojito tasting on Celebrity -- part of the RCCL group. Maybe we can turn in a list of cabin numbers / names interested in a tasting once boarding - or all stop by GS to inquire? Surely in fourteen days they could put one together.
