Did anyone else notice that the appetizer is listed as included on the TS meals on DDP again? At least I think I was reading the "included" items correctly!

Ages 3 to 9, although I'm not sure why a child needs an appetizer.

Thanks for the clarification...I did read that wrong (obviously). Also, it looks like they have decided the marathon is reason to increase 3 days to higher rates. How nice, we get to pay to run in the marathon and then pay more to stay. I was thinking of signing up for the 5k family fun run along with my DD, but we may skip it now they are raising our rates by $10 a night for 3 nights and $15 for one night of our stay. I'm sure it will all be worth it.

Hmmm, I wonder if they're doing different "seasons" for the DDP now. :confused3

Sure sounds like it:

The Walt Disney World Resorts have released full details of packages available for guests visiting the Central Florida attraction next year. Packages have seen some changes, including price and benefit additions. Let us take a look at what a vacation to Disney in 2010 would look like.

Thanks for posting! Here are my thoughts:

1. The only plan with a difference in price per season, is the regular plan. Obviously, this is the most popular - still no mug.

2. Why no price increase with Deluxe? Is this to encourage people to upgrade, as those of us who go during the 'high' season of dining, are now going to pay $47.00, whereas for only $23.00 more, you can get 1 extra TS, 1 extra snack, mug and difference between CS and TS.

3. How will Disney work out guests who travel in 2 seasons? Will they do like with hotels and charge different rates?

Bottom line, is that this is nonsense. It shouldn't cost more for families to eat during a 'high season' on the DP, but not QSDP and DxDP. WTH?

Disney has now made things way more complicated than it needs to be. I wonder if they have also done this to the DP, because this is what they give away with Free Dining, so by raising the prices and adding a new season, does it make it more attractive to 'Free Diners'? As well, are the rest of us paying for Free Dining?

I don't understand how you can charge a season increase for only 1 plan - that is ridiculous and makes absolutely no sense. Besides a profit grab, I can't believe that Disney would be that bold to do that...

I am lying her next to one very irritated DH at the moment - he is rethinking all dining for next year's trip...

Waiting for more info to come, Tiger :(

I think there could be something else at play here. This is purely at-first-glance speculation, of course...

We know the DDP reimbursements to restaurants are very, very low, and that many people have complained about its effect on menus.

We know Disney is dealing with an ongoing train-wreck and plenty of guest complaints about the ADR system.

We know the dining plan has been extremely popular, probably too popular for Disney to risk simply killing it.

I think the changes to make the regular plan less attractive and the quick service and deluxe plans comparatively more so could be paving the way for the phase-out of the original Disney dining plan. A year or two of waning interest in the regular plan as changes make it less and less of a value and it will disappear altogether. The quick service plan will be the free dining offer (and by then will probably cost what the regular plan did a couple years ago) and the deluxe will be there for the upsell and to maintain the "all inclusive" appeal for less budget-conscious travelers.

Absolutely - couldn't agree more! I didn't want to speculate on this right away, as I wanted to see what others thought, but this is exactly what DH and I are thinking. 'Free Dining' with the QSDP makes perfect sense, and the upsell of the DxDP makes even more sense.

Disney is very smart at what they do, no doubt about that. But, I still stand by the fact that to blatantly have a season for only 1 DP is very silly and looks really bad on their part, IMHO.

It's all very interesting - I was blindsided by this only because I think it's way too complicated to have seasons for dining, plus, I can't even begin to figure out how Disney is going to spin this. How does it cost more to eat during the same time period depending upon what type of credits you are using? Silly, silly, silly!

Tiger :confused3

I was looking at the Disney Website and came across this:

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/vacation-packages/2010/dining/

2010 Magic Your Way Package Plus Dining

This vacation package includes accommodations at a Disney Resort hotel and a Magic Your Way Base Ticket, as well as the Disney Dining Plan that can save you up to 30% on dining for stays from 1/3/2010 - 1/6/2010, 1/10/2010 - 1/14/2010, 1/18/2010 - 2/11/2010, 8/15/2010 - 9/30/2010, 11/28/2010 - 12/16/2010 . This plan offers one table-service meal, one quick-service meal and one snack per person, per night of your package stay, at over 100 select restaurants at Walt Disney World Resort—including some restaurants that feature Disney Character Dining.

Does this mean that the Basic Dining Plan is only going to be offered during those times???? The Quick Service and Deluxe plans didn't seem to have any specific dates associated with them. :confused3

You need to click on the drop down to see the other plans (Quick Service/Deluxe etc).

.

I think I figured it out. If you go to the main page for 2010 Magic Your Way Package you will see on the right side of the page that it says "Package for $1318" with a cross after it. If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you'll see the cross repeated with the dates in fine print. It's just a disclaimer for the price they're listing saying that you can get that price during those dates.

Looks like Disney is scaling back during peak periods.

I wonder if they are planning on adjusting the "free dining" promotion for 2010?

AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT NOTICED THAT THEY'RE BRINGING BACK APPETIZERS!!! Or did I read it wrong???

NEVERMIND! I'm an idiot and fell for the old (ages 3-9 only) trick! Darn my need for speed reading.....

I can't see any mention of the Coronado Springs Resort restaurants on the 2010 DDP or am I missing something... :cool1:

Disney won't add the non disney owned restaurants until their contracts are renegotiated. It'll be sometime in December probably. Same thing happened last year and the year before...

This happens every year. The first release of the DDP brochures that comes out along with the rates only includes the restaurants Disney owns. The restaurants at CSR, some of the World Showcase, and Downtown Disney are owned by outside companies, and it takes time for them to renew their contracts from year to year. Expect an updated list in December, and remember that no restaurant has left the plan since the very first year it was offered.

They'll be mentioned in the brochure that comes out in December. Happens every year with non-Disney owned properties. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks both very much for clearing this up for me :thumbsup2
This is my first experience with DDP so I'm still trying to work it all out :rolleyes1
Thanks again :goodvibes

not sure if anyone knows exactly..but someone mentioned they did the numbers and deluxe came out to $72...however disney states for less than $70 and somewhere i read that it was $69.99 ($70..:rolleyes1) which would be a drop since it used to be $71.99 ... im just trying to figure this all out...you would think they would just give the stupid price....

I wondered about the "less than $70" wording myself, so I did the math and came up with the same $71.99 adult/$20.99 child as for 2009. We're going during peak season, though, so maybe there is a seasonal factor involved that I'm not seeing. Or maybe Disney just has a careless copy editor.
