Yesterday when I was out I drove past a warehouse type building that said fabric outlet open to the public, I had seen it before nut never had time to stop. I had a little time so I thought I would check it out! I walked in and nearly fainted! :cloud9: I got all tingly. It was the most fabric I had ever seen!! I looked around and found some fabrics I had never seen before. They had chip and dale cotton knit, Incredibles flannel, some many my wallet was spinning!! There were many I had seen before and wish I had boughten and then never seen again! You cut everything yourself and then put it back. AND it is all cheap like $2.50 to $3.50 a yard!! It's like a treasure hunt!! Any way I got out there for under $50, I was proud of my self for showing such restraint!! :rolleyes1 I can take pictures if anyone is interested ;)

Here are the ones I got! Enjoy!!

These are flannel:

They also had a bambi print that looked like it was for a nursery. It had light yellow and blue diamonds, they had some star wars and other pooh prints.
You could spends days there looking and find new things!!

Wow! That's quite the jackpot you found! Now, more important than the photos of your new stash, where is this amazing place?
I mean addresses and all.
We're driving across the country next year and coming back through the states. Serious detouring could be arranged!!!

Thanks so much everyone. It's so good to be back.

I just wanted to let you know that the swirlies & spots were driving ME crazy too so I went back and put normal pics in their place. However, my boys are going through a goofy smile stage so it only adds a moderate improvement. :scared: Also, I'm quite possibly the world's most overprotective mom, and I can't help but get nervous every time I post pics of the kiddos online, so please what's posted here stays here....pretty please???

I can't wait to catch up and get reaquainted with you all again. It's been too long.

So Im sitting here reading the Feliz directions and a bit disappointed that this is all there is....no diagrams to go with the text- ugh! I NEED pictures.
I am not going to start this tonight, maybe tomorrow.

My first dilemma will be how to add a seam allowance. I do not have a mini ruler, or I would try using that- do I add 5/8 or 1/4"?
and the sizing is confusing. Originally I thought there was 12,18m and 2T
Now that Im reading the details there is no listing for size 12m (which is okay, I dont need it this time, but had hoped for my new little I would have it) and it says 18-2T and in american sizing theres a huge difference between those sizes. I will make the smallest size and pray it fits by Easter. She is 2.5yrs old, but wears 24months.

Any one have advice on this pattern?

I can't believe I FINALLY caught up to my post of 4 days ago. You all have to stop talking or I'll never catch up.

Ok, I want an older than sin age group. I remember 41, at least I think I do?? I am too old to remember what I can't remember.:rotfl:

I'm probably a member of that group too. I'm 45, almost 46.

By the way on etsy there are pasties for sale for Valentine's Day. Really pasties? And it comes with double sided medical tape for putting them on. Seriously, is that not the weirdest thing?

Also, that is not the weirdest thing I've seen on etsy. There was a dress on there for women that had a pocket in a really odd place. When I read the name of the dress, I figured out it was an intentional placement. It was pretty gross!

There were also men's underwear for sale (boxers and boxer briefs). I can just imagine if I bought my DH a pair of custom made boxers. I don't think he would find that too amusing. But what really is funny though is that there are guys modeling them (no faces - I guess they aren't that brave)!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: This is just really cracking me up. I could just see the look on DH's face if I told him I was going to go into business making custom pasties. Or asking him to model boxers.

I am drawing a complete blank on the pocket dress though.

Want to see something funny?
Yupp, me in boutique bottoms. Bonus points cause they look shiny in this picture.
th_SSL21705.jpg

There's probably not a "bad" look for you. Meanwhile, I'm thinking I need to go back on a diet.

The Feliz dress runs very generous.I added seam allowances the first time I made one, but haven't added them since. I just use a 1/2" seam on the pattern as it's drawn. I make them for my daughter in the 24mos/2T size and it works just fine. You should be okay. I've seen different tutorials for this pattern available online. I used the Farbenmix one when I made mine, and found it pretty easy to follow if you fairly comfortable sewing. Parts of constructing the dress were tricky. I found the straps to be difficult to place just right to get the perfect fit, but overall it wasn't too bad.

Lori

They're both really cute, but I especially love the Dalmatian one because it's so unique (and we had a Dalmatian for 14 years!)

I've posted a few times but thought I would share my experience this weekend. Now granted I am a very inexperienced sewer, learning and teaching myself as I go along. Did super with the free doll wrap skirt from YCMT, so I started on the easy fit pants for the dolls. Everything went smoothly until I was SUPPOSED to be sewing the casing for the elastic, but what I was really doing was sewing the front and the back pieces together.:scared1: I did not know what I had done, but when I figured it out WOW I felt foolish. The directions couldn't be more specific, I mean it even has pictures !!! My DH asked what the problem was and I assured him that yes I could read a pattern, and follow the pictures, I mean for goodness sake I am college graduate. He laughed at me all night, complimenting me on my new favorite hobby. He said in a very deadpan way, "UHH maybe you should take a sewing class" to which I responded very sarcastically "UHH Ya think!!!!" anyway I finished them and they look ok. I really have to take some pics and post because I am very proud of the skirts and pants.

I've been sewing for 30 years and I sewed the front and back of a shirt together twice while appliquing before Christmas. Don't feel bad.

Hi Everyone,

I whipped up the tinkerbelle top for the big give (DUE TOMORROW!!!) hopefully she will like it - i made a ribbon that goes from the center and then back around her neck to tie it - hopefully it will look more grown up to her!
th_100_0599.jpg

I almost forgot - here are the kids in their Christmas plaid - Tim refuses to wear a vest still (a year later) so we went with pants - he looked so cute!! The girls looked sweet too! Hopefully they will wash well - has anyone washed the pleated skirts yet???
th_Christmaskids.jpg

Thanks All, Wendy

That dress turned out so sweet and your kids are adorable!

A few of yall have been asking if I am still planning to go the the Dismeet. I wish I could still go, but if anyone remembers I am pregnant. Now I am having contractions preterm and although I have not been put on bedrest, another trip to Disney with all the walking might just put me over the edge. This pregnancy has been alot harder than my first two. Lots more aches and pains. I could rent an EVC but I can't bring myself to do that. I have always believed that pregnancy was not an illness or a disability. Besides, If I went to WDW and went to preterm labor, I do not think I would forgive myself. I will be sad and not go this time and look forward to my next trip. We are thinking Disney cruise!!

I'm sorry that you're going to miss the Dismeet (not that I get to go or anything) but a baby is soooooo worth it.

Today is my niece's birthday and my sister called me and asked me if I could make Kelsey a cake that had something to do with Twilight on it. So I went looking for pictures of Bella and Edward that were drawn. This is the cake that I came up with.
th_1231625927.jpg

In person Edward doesn't look that odd. I couldn't get a good angle to take the picture.

My sister said that Kelsey was so excited when she saw the cake that she had tears in her eyes. Everybody at the party loved the cake.

Great job on the cake Crystal. Your niece is a lucky girl!

Im considering doing the exact same thing! I didn't realize that they had crib sheets - that would be perfect for me. I think I need to order that size.

I have a Futura 150. I really like it.

I looked at the pottery barn sheets and thought no way am I spending that kind of money, then again, I got a few yards of blue dr suess and a bit of green, so maybe I think a bit differently about how much I *need* it!

Yep - I was going to order the sheets to use too - you can always sell leftover yardage on ebay.

Okay, Shannon, you're going to get a crib size sheet, but is that just for one child or are you planning on using it for more than one? Like for an outfit for a give or something you might sell?

And Jessica, I get it, you aready have some (lucky girl!) so probably not in the market.

And 2cutekidz (I am terrible with real life names - I am SO sorry) what size are you going to order?

I am just trying to figure it out since I know a twin size sheet set would be more than enough with lots left over but is a crib size sheet too little? I just can't decide!!!

Okay, I only have time for a few more before I've got to go get some work done. I have an outfit I've got to finish by Monday. I just lack the motivation at the moment to actually do it.

Wow! I am so jealous! I wish I had something like that near me! We have great upholstery fabric stores here in Dallas nothing like that. Way to go on your new stash!

I need a little advice on American Girl stuff too...

My girls got Samantha for Christmas and for Valentine's Day I ordered the Samantha chair and table set and one of her beds. We have two dolls (one for Grace and one for Claire - poor Lilly didn't get one but if it causes problems I'll cross that bridge when I get to it!) should I order a second Samantha bed or wait and order a different doll's bed? I am worried that the girls will fight over whose doll gets the bed. I'm not normally this indulgent with my kids but since the line is being retired I don't want to regret not buying it. I figure eventually they will get a new doll and I can always order that doll's bed so we will have two beds. And I do really hate to spend money on toys but these are special and I do want them to enjoy them so any suggestions I would appreciate!

Oh, and my in-laws bought them Fancy Nancy dolls for Christmas. I was comparing them to the AG dolls and they look about the same size. Do you think they could wear the same size clothes when I get around to making them?

Post birthday recovery in progress :rolleyes1
It seems birthdays around here last a week! Brookie had a school party and family party and a Princess Tea Party today. I got up early to clean and set up and decorate and we had a great time but I am sooo exhausted now!

Not using other people's pictures is kind of a rule around here. There was a discussion a while back and that was the end decision.:thumbsup2

Jenna has the Fancy Nancy doll and the Doll patterns by CarlaC fit her. I think her body is a little slimmer than the AG dolls, plus she is all plastic, so there is no give with her belly.

A friend asked me to minnie-up a plain black hoodie for her daughter and this is what I came up with:

th_IMG_0760.jpg

Oh I love that! Very creative! I think I want one for me! I think you are overthinking it. I really think it would look great with the dress, and it won't matter at all if the red's or the scale of the dots don't match. Just having the fabric against black vs. against white changes how our eyes "read" the colors anyway.

There will be no sewing in the house today. It is 11:37 and I just got my plowing done. I got stuck twice and had the renter help get me out.

This is how the day goes so far. HK, our cat wakes up Hunter at 4am. He says he tummy hurts and then throws up all over me, the bed, the pillow, the down comforter, the duvet, the carpet, and 3 bath mats. Then all over the bathroom floor and toilet. The poor little guy. So I get all things and people cleaned up, start the laundry, put him back in the bed that just got a complete cleaning with vinegar on the mattress and guess what?? He got sick all over again and just like before. He isn't running a fever but just throw up:confused3 Now I am out of sheets, the laundry room is full and the machine is going. It is about 5:30 and I have to get the renter's plowed out so they can get to work. I tuck the sick little guy in truck with blanket and pillows and we spend the next 1.5 hours plowing, getting stuck, getting unstuck, plowing. Hunter started to perk up so I brought him to school with instructions to call me immediately if he even complains.

I think because we have both had this sinus thing that he couldn't clear his throat and it caused him to throw up. I asked what was wrong and he said he has a lock in his throat. He has autism so I think it could mean that the cold is blocking his throat.

I only have two more loads of laundry to do and I still have to make the bed, again. I did spot clean the carpet and I did mop the floors with Lysol.

Here is the strange thing. I feel good about being able to handle all the things that life has thrown at me with DH being away. I have figured out how to start the snow beast (plow truck) in -29. I know how to use the screw driver to open the hood, I can take off the air filter and manifold so fast now. Starting fluid is my best friend. I can plow out renters, neighbors, mom and then get my drive done. I can handle the sick child, the trash, the plowing, problems with paperwork, bills, etc.

It makes me feel very empowered to learn that I can do so much. Sorry for going on so long.

You are so my hero! My hubby is in London, and I've been a total whiney wimp about our snow and I don't have a fraction to clear away that you have. We had at least 6 inches in the driveway today and while Rachel was outside shoveling, someone (I really don't know who) came by with a plow on a pickup truck and did our driveway and said no charge. I was shocked. I hate the snow, I hate the cold......I can't image YOUR temperatures.....although I think later this week we are going to be in the serious negative numbers also........and to do all of this with a sick child, that's quite an accomplishment. I hope he's feeling better.

:cloud9: :lovestruc I made this Monday night, I know yall will forgive me posting it with out the bows. I am in the middle of making them for Madi.
th_lilpetshopoutfits009.jpg

That turned out really cute. Your daughter has such beautiful curls!

It is windier than all he** here. well, I was on my way home from running errands, hoping that we haven't lost any trees and that the remainder of the Christmas decorations I was planning on taking dwn today were not blown halfway across the neighborhood. I get home and the storm door is locked. I only lock it at night and if we go away. Well, as I struggle to get the key out, I see the bottom glider thing is torn off. Apparently, while I was gone, the wind grabed the door, opened it and tried to take it away. MIL caught the door and pulled it shut and locked it. Now I have wood glue and crazy glue and scratched on my hand from trying to fix it. I should have eaten some black eyed peas on New Years.

I know it's been a couple of days, so hopefully things are going better now, but you sounded like you could use this.

I finally uploaded my pics for Emily's wish cruise.

th_IMG_2253.jpg
th_IMG_2259.jpg

They turned out great--I'm sure the family will be so pleased.

Thank you very much, this helps me visualize a little, but not completely since they didnt add any additional text- for example it just says add ruffles to the back of the underdress to embellish- but howdo I attach them. I mean I knew how to make a ruffle- but I have only attached ruffles to the bottom hem of a dress, and never rows of them...
I see now I need to check my elastic inventory.
It also says "size to fit" for the back of the underdress- but how on earth do you do that with just a piece of the pattern- not the whole dress capable of being tried on....
I already bought my fabric, so theres no going back now.
I have the StudioTantrum pattern

I've finally caught up! I've had my mom have surgery, grandfather and grandmother in the hospital for a week each, mom and brother in hospital with bronchitis since October (bronchitis was within the last week) plus the holidays. . . . BUT I still fit in sewing for the Thrifty under 50 and had done some before so I am going to upload pictures and be posting tons soon, hope you don't mind.

I have really enjoyed seeing everyone's Holiday pictures and the recent customs. Thanks so much for sharing!

Wow, you've had a lot to deal with.

These are for (one of) the Big Give - they are going on a cruise. I thought these would be perfect for Pirate Night.

These turned out super cute!

I'll start here. . .

October 19th my cousin had her baby shower. . .

I made this diaper cake as the gift from my mom and brother (they paid for the supplies, I put it together). It was my first time making one, and no one in my family had seen one before, so they were amazed!

Sorry to go back so far, but here's Halloween. . .

I carved this pumpkin:

I made boot covers for DH (don't seem to have a picture of them), the shirt and the vest:

Here's me, I made myself one of the no sew tutu's, but can't find any pics. . .

th_DSC07549.jpg

Looks like you guys had a fun Halloween!

I made some outfits for some friends of our's little girls back in DC that I shipped to them (at the same time I shipped for Chloe's little give, but I didn't MAKE Chloe anything, I just didn't have time with so many family illnesses. . .I did buy her two pair's of pants and a pair of sneakers). . .

anyhow here they are:

This one is for a little girl names Calista who will be two in April:

And here is my best friend from High School's daughter's outfit. She lives in Miami, so I was able to get these pictures back in early November, but hopefully I will get more pictures of her around Christmas with this on:
th_DSC07571.jpg

You're a great friend. Everything turned out so cute. I'm sure they all felt very blessed.

Last one for today. . . I have more but have to get them on the computer to then upload and THEN I can post )sorry if I'm boring you with all my pictures):

For my birthday DH surprised me with two nights at the AS Movies and MVMCP (neither of us had ever been, in fact I'd never been for my birthday). It was actually on the day of my birthday (December 9th), and I threw these together the night before, no sewing just ironing!

th_DSC07646.jpg

This is one of us wearing them. We had dinner at Tony's Town Square. We didn't have a reservation, we just went there around 4:30 and asked if they has availability. She said they couldn't guarantee indoors, but I said that was ok, we preferred outside, so we were actually the first called to sit, period! We felt special and had a great meal, and a free birthday sundae (in the shot):

th_DSC07673.jpg

I like the picture of the two of you! The shirts came out great.

I have to tell this to ya'll cause I know you all will appreciate this one. Today DH and I went to Wal-Mart to pick up a couple of things. So we were walking down the food section walkway I notice that they had an end cap that filled from top to bottom half with Tomato soup and the other half with ..... Chicken Noodle Soup. Tons of it. Just sitting there waiting to be grabbed by the nearest DH with a sick wife. So his rebuttal was this, "They must have just put that there." Yeah sure. So then we go down the isle that has all of the soup and there is a big spot filled with Chicken Noodle Soup. His reply, "Why are so picky about what kind of soup you want?" Men!! They don't understand anything. I swear if I was taller I wouldn't need one. :lmao:

I know you've probably posted an update on your dad by now, but I'll keep him in my prayers.
I actually haven't posted and update! It has been a crazy week!
Thank you for keeping my dad, and my friends family in your prayers!
I Picked my Dad up Wednesday from the hospital. He has Chrones disease, and is currently on a restricted diet, limited activities, and 2 antibiotics. But he is home and feeling much better, so thank you all once again for your prayers.
My friends funeral was yesterday, and it was really sad. Her son couldn't be there (not like he would get it, he is only 15 months old) because he has bronchitis. But it was really a lovely celebration of her life. Her family definitely still needs prayers. Especially her DH, who I don't think knows what hit him yet.

Hi everyone! I've resurfaced from lurkdom because I've really missed some of you and was hoping to get reaquainted. I've loved looking at all of the outfits you've created. It's been so much fun and rewarding to see everybody share their interests and talents. My family just got back from a Christmas vacation to Disneyland, and I wanted to share some of the outfits I created for my sons and daughter for our trip.

**ETA: Okay, the swirlies had to go. They were driving me batty too.

Alright, I will admit that I am not into the whole Twilight thing. In fact, I have no idea what any of it is all about, but that cake is amazing. Nice job.

Here are the ones I got! Enjoy!!

Sweet haul. My family and friends laugh at me because I can spend hours in a fabric store (even a small one). I could get lost for days in this one. So, I don't know where Brooklyn Park is. What is the nearest major city? My girls and I might have to take a field trip up there after it warms up a little.

When I make these dresses, I go by the actual measurements on the pattern as opposed to the sizes. I find the Farbenmix patterns run short, so I can usually cut out one size up for length and leave off a seam allowance. However, an easy way to do a seam allowance is tape 2 pencils together and use them to trace the pattern pieces.

Post birthday recovery in progress :rolleyes1

Looks like a fun party.
