Packed & Moved..Disboutiquers Part 6 Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes we sew

I've been reading for a bit and you have all inspired me to try several things for my girls for our September trip.

I have a question for those of you who used ribbon for ties for sundresses.
How did you finish or treat the end of the ribbon so it wouldn't fray? My daughter wanted ribbon for a tie for her shirred sundress I made, but the ribbon frayed on its first test wear.

Any advice?
Thanks all
Julie

Julie, I always use a lighter!

:flower3: First want to say you guys are all so talented! Now for my question- I see on ebay custom dresses with large fabric appliques on the bodice- not pieced appliques but one big print of Tink, or Aurora, Cinderella, etc. I have seen panels at Walmart, but these dresses have ones that look larger and nicer. Where can I buy these?
TIA!

Pillowcases! At Walmart, they have a Tink, Ariel and one with Princesses.

I don't think she really knows "normal" so sometimes I'm not so sure if what she is saying is always accurately describing what is going on.

Poor kid - she's probably so used to being in some amount of pain that her pain tolerance is way high. And that makes it even harder for her (and you) because she probably doesn't complain too much unless it's really bad.

I know that's got to be so frustrating for all of you! I hope you get some answers soon and that Riley gets to feeling better.

Some use pillowcases.

Okay, here is the complete JoJo outfit. Now I just need to find a little 2 year old to model it!

Oh, and sew on the buttons! I hate sewing on buttons!

That turned out really cute!!

TV????? What's that?????? :happytv: Everyone watches it round my house but me cause if I sit, I am Dis'n baby! :rotfl:

I'm bad - the TV is on most of the day. I don't often sit and watch but it's on when I'm on the computer, sewing, etc.

Are you sure you don't get it. I have directv and it's channel 264.

Riley is doing o.k. She is definitely not 100%. We had some plans tonight and we scrapped them because she didn't feel like going anyplace. I don't know if I should have taken her in today or not. She isn't having the pains, she just described it as feeling sensitive.

Part of the stress from this comes from the fact that it is sometimes difficult to translate Riley's descriptions of her pain. It's getting easier than when she was little, but honestly I don't think she really knows "normal" so sometimes I'm not so sure if what she is saying is always accurately describing what is going on.

Anyway, she rested all day, so hopefully tomorrow she'll be back to normal.

We have just the "starter" channels. I think they call it the top 100 or something like that. I really miss a few channels, like BBC, Noggin (for Zoe), Bravo (no Project Runway!!!) and FX (loved the Courtney Cox series Dirt). I just haven't felt they're enough to pay for the next level. Now if they'd let me pick, they can keep all the ESPN (however many versions they have), CNN, FNN, MSN, CMT and Fox News channels and give me those 4. I'm sure there are quite a few others I'd be happy to throw in for the trade. ;)

I can understand how it would be hard for Riley to remember what "normal" feels like. Although I'm not saying it's nearly the same, I'm prone to frequent headaches some of which can last days at a time (had this problem since 8th grade). Occasionally they are bad enough I need to be in a quiet darkened room but most often they're just like a low ache. Sometimes I even "forget" I have a headache because I get used to feeling the pain. When the pain is finally gone it will actually take me a while to realize what's different.

Sometimes you can find panel fabric sold by the yard but many people use pillowcases and other clever sources for their "fabric". Many characters that aren't available in fabric on a bolt can be found as sheets, curtains, etc.

 ...actually its today at this time. Love the JoJo outfit! LisaZoe-I think I remember a Snow White outfit you appliqued that I drooled over. You have an amazing knack of picking gorgeous prints for your Princess outfits. I'm jealous!

Oh, and sew on the buttons! I hate sewing on buttons!

Oh oh I have a two year old..... :rolleyes1
and I don't really mind buttons ;) and she LOVES JoJo & Goliath.....

Lisazoe- I think project runway is moving to lifetime after the current season!

I've been in "window Shopping" Mode... We had two parties today. I have also been working on the casual "fairy princess" tink dress for sophia to wear at her birthday party next weekend. My baby will be 2 on friday :sad2: We saw a new baby today and she looked so teeny tiny! :cloud9: :lovestruc
And not to mention the Big Give #2 outfit/ pixie dust package for hannah and logan. But I am staying caught up I am determined not to fall behind :scared: especially so close to the end, I wouldn't want to get lost on the way to our new "home" ;) :rotfl: Alright I need sleep NOW- Good night all!

And good morning too you early morning people! :sunny:

I finally finished the Cindy outfit!!!!

I left the pupils on the appilque small b/c I couldn't get them to look right big!
It came out so pretty! I love the colors.
I just had to share some good news with all of you.

I had posted before that I have somethings going on in my life right now that just plain stink and coming here really brightens my day!

Anyways.....I had been working on a few different dresses, outfits, etc. to sell (if Parker didn't want them) and in the past two weeks, I have sold 4 dresses, 2 hair bows and I just today I got an order to do 2 more dresses with matching hair bows. I'm on :cloud9:

I don't sell on :wizard: or the other place, only to people I know or friends of friends. I am not confident enough in my skills to make the venture into the auctions but this happening to me today has really given me the boost that I needed to really amp up what I'm doing. I am going to make up some more things and start making my way to consignment shops and see what I can do.

Thanks for letting me share this with all of you!!!!!!!!! Y'all are the best!!!!!!

Congrats!

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I lost one of my cats a year ago. And it devasted me as it was something so simple I could have easily taken care of. Never in my life would I have thought a Cat could die from fleas. I completely understand how you feel.
I am so sorry about your cat. fleas? I have never heard of that. We lost our cat 2 yrs ago and ever since then i was preparing to loose Rocky but now that we might i am not prepared at all.

Are you sure you don't get it. I have directv and it's channel 264.

sorry Riley isn't feeling good yet. I know how hard it must be. Trying to understand what a child is saying is wrong is so hard.

ROCKY UPDATE.

WE went to see him yesterday and the vet said he is doing better so he is encouraged and DH said he looks better then the day before. I broke down when I saw him because he started waging his tail like crazy when he saw me, he was my baby and for some reason it was always me that just had to look at him and his tail would go crazy. The techs there said he seemed happy that we were there. Poor baby he hasn't been in a crate since he was 6 months old so not only is he feeling awful but he is in a crate. He can hold his head up and we even took him outside potty. Of course when we took him out side he headed streight for our car:scared1: So he is ready to come home I just pray we can take him home. He still isn't eating but he wants to drink now and is able to get u and go outside potty. I think the real deal breaker is if he can keep food down. All of his blood levels are getting much better. So we are very cautiously optimistic.

Thank you again for all the well wishes and prayer for my baby boy please keep them up we aren't out of the woods yet.

On a side note. yesterday my sewing machine broke AGAIN! So while the kids were in karate I ran to super walmart to see what they had and they had the Disney embroidery brother there on clearance for $169! It was originally $398!!! It was the floor model btu at the time I thought it had all the parts so I had them hold it for me. DH made a deal when we were 1st married not to spend my then %$50 on a luxury item unless the other oks it. Well I get home and DH vetoes it. UGH I was so mad because when he broke his ipod 3 times with in an hour we were at the store getting him new ones! Not happy! So I called my mom to vent and she said get it and happy early bday( it is 9/3). She said she was trying to figure out what to get me and this was perfect since she had known this was my dream machine! YIPPEE my mom ROCKS!

I get it home and I am missing this flap thing so I need to call brother Monday. I am also having a hard time with having the cartridge thread the needle. It is driving me crazy! UGH So I am doing it the old fashioned way.

So any of you that have this have any tips on using it?

Any idea what I am doing wrong and why when I put the cartridge in and push it down slowly in the grey area the needle doesn't thread?

Of course when I get it home and start playing with it Dh is all oh that is really cool. How cool you can do Mickey on things. UGH! Needless to say next time he breaks his ipod and I know he will by his track record lets see how encouraging I am when he wants to head to the store asap to replace it. He can carry my original pink mini! Maybe!

That turned out great, I love the pastel colors!

Amy, that is wonderful!!!!

Sally, I am so sorry that happened to your cat! How does a cat die of fleas? Our cat (that ran away) had fleas so bad last year, it seems like nothing would get rid of them, until we got rid of the dog. Did he die of an infection from the bites??

I thought I might have to take my kitten to the vet today. He got a piece of string wrapped all around his little paw, and it was so tight I had to find a tiny pair of sharp scissors to get it off. He was such a good kitten though, he didn't struggle much when I tried to get it off. When I did cut it, he just layed in my arms for awhile. I think he was a bit traumatized.

Poor little kitty! Glad you you were able to help him. My cat used to LOVE string. My poor kids could never have balloons because he would eat the string. I think the 1st real balloons they had were at WDW in the hotel! LOL

I had a kitten that died from fleas. It had so many on it that they basically drained the kitties blood. Sorry to be graphic. I kept fighting the fleas the best that I could, but at that time I only had a minimum wage job and I couldn't afford the really expensive treatment that the kitten needed.

My sister was living in the country and had a dog that they could not get to stay close to home. It came home once and they locked it in the fence and fed it and even petted and played with it and then one day the dog was just really really sick. It turned out that the dog had a ton of infected flea bites near his little rear end. He had to be put down. The vet said that he was in too much pain and there wasn't much hope. I could be more graffic, but I won't because I know there are a lot of doggy lovers here and they probably wouldn't sleep tonight.

Just a reminder if you have pets to make sure and treat for fleas.

OMG that is scary. I never every thought of that.

Some use pillowcases.

Okay, here is the complete JoJo outfit. Now I just need to find a little 2 year old to model it!

I'm wondering what "flap" you're talking about. Do you mean the piece that hooks to the front. I never use it because the skirts get caught on it. If the needle cartridge isn't threading the needle, be sure the needle is in the right position and the little green light is on, before you put it in. If you are using slippery thread, instead of cutting the thread at the end of threading, hold the tail of the thread as you push down the cartridge. That is what I have to do for mine. Good luck, it's a great machine, My only complaint, is that the thread cutter (the automatic) one wears out very quickly, so only use it for the embroidery or you will be sorry...I had to go and buy another because no one could fix the cutter...

Mocha was a Himilayan, so he had tons of fur. He also liked to go outside and lay in the neighbors bushes. I guess it was cooler. He wasn't a lovey cat, but he would like to have you hold him on his terms. He came to me too late, he died while I was holding him and taking him the vet. He was being treated for fleas, but there were a few days that I hadn't held him. The fleas bite and make the cats anemic (yes, they lose blood) and takes the oxygen out of thier blood. In just the few days I hadn't held him, he went from 9lbs., to what felt like nothing. I was devasted!! And felt that it was my fault, and I still do. I should have caught on earlier. I learned my lesson. I have a Persian that I'm very protective of now.

:flower3: First want to say you guys are all so talented! It sounds like it's one of the pillow case "appliques".

I'm bad - the TV is on most of the day. I don't often sit and watch but it's on when I'm on the computer, sewing, etc.

I do this to!! But I can't listen to the radio. Isn't that stange?

I haven't been sewing much lately (although I NEED to be working on a nursery set for a friend). I'm trying to get last November's Disney World trip scrapped. DD2 is trying to keep me in the Disney spirit today apparently. For the last hour she's been running around saying "I need my boppity boo!" Meaning - "Mommy, where's my magic wand?" I'd like to 'boppity boo' this page I'm working on, it's giving me fits.
Boppity boo- that is so cute!

It turned out beautifully! I like the pastel colors, too!

I just had to share some good news with all of you.

That's wonderful!!! I think you're better off not selling on ebay, considering all the ebay and paypal fees you have to pay these days!

Well, I have to get my house cleaned up and get ready to sew and watch Robin Hood on BBC America tonight at 8 (central time) because it's a new episode!!!

Do any of you watch that? I think I have a little crush on Robin. If you haven't watched you totally should. It's a fun show for kids too!
No, I've never heard of it. I'll have to look it up. Thanks for giving me the channel number for BBCA, too!

:cheer2: Again ladies, I would just like to say that you are the best bunch of people! I really enjoy "seeing" you all here on the thread and also reading your cool trip reports and all the pics of your lives.....in the past year, you have really helped me out and inspired me to no end! :grouphug: :disrocks: :disrocks:

I will be away for the next few days....but I will be back with lots of pics of Hershey Park!!!! Enjoy your week and I will continue "working" on DH about the Feb Dismeet. I am up for anything that is planned!
 You're so sweet. I think this is a pretty special group of women (and man), too. Have fun at Hershey Park!!!

I hope she's not having another episode! I know what you mean about her not knowing what normal is. That happens when you have chronic pain. It's hard to tell if you are having a new pain, or if you're just noticing something you've had for a while. Are you still considering Mayo if she gets sicker again?

Aw..poor Firefox kitty!

That's adorable, Jessica!!!!! I love it!

I've been in "window Shopping" Mode... We had two parties today. I have also been working on the casual "fairy princess" tink dress for sophia to wear at her birthday party next weekend. My baby will be 2 on friday :sad2: We saw a new baby today and she looked so teeny tiny!
I was staring longingly at a baby at McDonald's yesterday. I'm glad the mom didn't see me or she might have gotten a little freaked out! :rotfl: It's hard when your baby stops being a baby. :sad2:

ROCKY UPDATE.

WE went to see him yesterday and the vet said he is doing better so he is encouraged and DH said he looks better then the day before. I saw that machine at our WalMart for $150. I wish I could have bought it, but Henry would have vetoed that one, too! I hope you get it figured out!

Poor little kitty! Glad you you were able to help him. My cat used to LOVE string. My poor kids could never have balloons because he would eat the string. I think the 1st real balloons they had were at WDW in the hotel! LOL

My kids don't get balloons, either. But, that's because (yes Stephres, here comes another death story) my friend's nephew died from choking on a balloon. They're right up there as one of the top choking hazzards for kids. The mylar ones are okay, but the latex ones can get caught in their throat when it pops and it's almost impossible to get it out.

Can you guys see my ticker? One of my friends said it wasn't there, but I can see it.

No. I'm having that trouble to. I can't seem to make my stuff small enough. But it drives me nuts, when you look at preview, think all it okay, but it's rearranged after you save.

I'm wondering what "flap" you're talking about. Do you mean the piece that hooks to the front. I never use it because the skirts get caught on it. If the needle cartridge isn't threading the needle, be sure the needle is in the right position and the little green light is on, before you put it in. Yeah that flap. I didn't think it was a big deal but when you buy something new you kind of want all the parts your know?

As for the threader. I am talking about threading the actual needle. The light is green I thread the cartridge make sure the needle is in the right position then gently push the cartridge down the thread comes down but the arm that does the threading doesn't seem to move:eek: Maybe I am doing something wrong? I called Walmart to see if there is another one in the area that I can exchange it but no one has it and they can't order one on line and exchange it. UGH! So I need to call Brother and maybe they can help me since it is brand new it should be under warranty. Is that really bad? I figured even if I had to pay $50 to fix it it is still a huge deal and I really LOVE the machine! I feel like i have a big kid machine now!:rotfl:

I hope Rocky gets to come home soon!

I saw that machine at our WalMart for $150. I wish I could have bought it, but Henry would have vetoed that one, too! I hope you get it figured out!

I do too Thank you! How is your grandma doing?

OMG how scary! I usually never get the latex balloons to me they smell. :confused3

The inlaws live in Red Lion. I may just have to visit with you.
Now I have to go shopping. I think I might be able to arrange a day out for just me while we are there.:)

I am like 7 minutes from Red Lion, what a small world. Definatly pm me when the trip gets close and I will give you my number.

We'll have to keep in touch, it would be great to meet another diser!
Send me a pm, I would love to meet up with you. All these great disers coming to my neck of the woods, it is so exciting!:yay:

 I am so happy for you. I just sold some sets and it is a great feeling. Keep up the good work, I will be cheering you on!

HeatherSue and SallyfromDE .. I can't see either of your tickers. I can see the very top of your SallyfromDE, but HeatherSue I only see the top 3 photos.

I have started talking to Mayo clinic. We already have a case number or some kind of reference number. I am waiting to hear back from my insurance exactly what I am going to need to do to get it approved. I am not feeling like this is going to be an easy task, from what I have gotten out of them so far. I am going to appeal to their wallets though and point out that if she had some actual help they may not have had to pay for ..... 30 prescriptions, 10 ER visits, 30 urine cultures (about $300 a time!), 5 doctor visits , and probably more that I can't think of...... I want them to see how out of control her care expenses are and it is primarily because we aren't getting any care!
