Greeting Race Team -

Kristi and I are now starting to organize volunteers for the 2009 WDW Marathon Weekend.

The first team we would like to put together will be for Red Water Stop #2 for the Full marathon. We did this stop last year and had a great time. Please note that this shift requires you to be at the WDW Wide World of Sports Complex by 3:00am. We were done very early last year and had plenty of time to scream team at other locations. :cheer2:

I have been trying to contact a human being at Disney Sports to talk about volunteering as a group but have so far been unsuccessful. So anyone interested in signing up for Red Water Stop # 2 for the Full please check in here then go to this link and register:

Judy... I'm guessing you saw this, just haven't been able to speak w/ a person yet???

GROUP OPPORTUNITIES:
Celebrate the 2009 WALT DISNEY WORLD® Marathon Weekend with family and friends! Reserve a volunteer location for your group of 10 or more. Please call 407-938-3880 or email wdw.sports.enthusiast@disneysports.com for more information.

I'd like to volunteer, but have to check w/ DH first. I would LOVE to give out the medals!!!

Stacie

I need to speak to Mom about getting up that early for the red waterstop #2, if not maybe I will do another water stop closer to MK, we're at the Poly so we could just walk over there.
I will check and let you know. Do we sign up as a group with WISH or do we signup on the website and then tell them we are a with a group?

Tracy

Please put me down. I am doing my darndest to make sure I can make it to Marathon Weekend this year. I am signed up for the 1/2, so don't want to lose out on that registration fee!!!

UPDATE - I am registered. Now Pixie Dust I can make it there!!!

I put a call in to the Director of Volunteers to see if there is any advantage to us registering as a group. Last year we didn't and it didn't seem to make a difference. As long as we all register for the same spot I don't think it matters. :)

Jenn, please keep in mind...I neeeeed you there! Please please please! I need you that morning. You're my moral support!

OK, should I put you down for the Full Red Water Stop #2? popcorn::

Tracy, that's why I want to know who's registering for what. This way if I find out it's better for us to be a group, I can tell them who to put in which group. :thumbsup2

DH just agreed! Yay! I think later in the morning will work better though...Like Tracy. Closer to the MK would awesome or the Animal Kingdome Lodge. (not sure yet where we are staying...probably AKL)

If there is an interest for like a 5-10:30 am water stop, I'd like to be part of that group. I've never done this before so I have no clue where on the map these water stops are at. Water Stop #9 means nothing to me. I'm guessing maybe that is what mile it is located??? :confused3

So...someone will need to tell me which one to sign up for!

Stacie

Hi everyone!

I appreciate all of you volunteers... I just wanted to remind you that there will be some BLUE start people from WISH too (like me last year) that won't get the benefit of having the HUGE BOOST from seeing all of you. If you have enough volunteers, I suggest helping out at a RED and BLUE water stop. I don't even know if that is possible, just a suggestion though.

I just wanted to give you a heads up no matter where you volunteer or what time your shift is, you have to check-in at the Wide World of Sports and they will bus you to your volunteer area. Once your shift is over, you will be bussed back to WWoS to get whatever goodies you get for volunteering. Also, you must provide your own transportation to the Wide World of Sports.

Thank you all for voluteering for the full water stops!!!

Is anybody doing anything about the 1/2 water stops? Dave and I would like to volunteer at a 1/2 water stop with other WISHers! We are doing the full!

I second Howard! I ran the blue course this year and totally missed all of the WISHers. It would be fantastic to have some support on the Blue course, or after the courses have merged. Thanks for helping out guys!!!!

Judy - If comes to pass that I can no longer do 26.2 come January, DH and I will volunteer since we're going down for marathon weekend either way:yay: . I will know for certain in September after I make an attempt at running a 1/2 marathon. I promise to get back to you definitively:grouphug: .

I agree. I was on the Blue course as well, and almost switched to the Red course at the last minute so that I could see the WISHers, but I heard a nasty rumor that my chip wouldn't work if I crossed the Red start as opposed to the Blue start, and whether I believed it or not, it worried me enough to not switch colors.

Actually, what really helped was seeing any and all cheering WISHers along the course. Knowing that there would be WISHers at mile 24 near the Beach Club kept me going on those final highway stretches after the AK. Is anyone planning to scream team from the BC again this year?

Baby Boy and I will be at mile 24!!

I'm in! Although like Stacie, it's not clear what stops are where--do they correspond to a mileage marker? So many choices! I love the names, though--- "Screaming Fans Volunteer"!
5 am is in my time frame. If water stop #9 corresponds to mile #9 then it's right near the Polynesian.
I'm flexible though. Let's get a great crew together!
