Wicked the movie

I just read that Universal pictures is making Wicked the play into a big screen movie set for release 12/20/19. I'm so excited I love the play.

I'm with you. I understand why they are making it. I wish they would have just released a copy of the stage play. I still would have seen it live. I have seen Phantom twice, and I am hoping to go a 3rd time when my boys are older. I own the 2011 stage version. Seeing the shows on my tv does not diminish my desire to see them live.

Yeah I've heard all this hype about the musical so I took my mom this last weekend because it was touring near us, and I have to say I was totally underwhelmed by it all. The music, the story, all of it. It was boring. I didn't think the music was catchy at all.

Yep me too. I am seeing it for the 5th time in May, and I am very fearful they are going to ruin it, like they did with Mamma Mia and Rock of Ages. I would much rather they just film the stage version, like they did with Billy Elliott.
I am somewhat skeptical it will ever actually come out since they announced it so long ago and it always just sits.

I am not a huge Rock of Ages fan, but the soundtrack from the show is pretty awesome. They RUINED Nine. I LOVE that show! It is one of my favorites. The movie was pathetic. I felt really bad for the cast. It could have been something amazing, but it was boring.

We LOVE Rock of Ages, but refused to even see the movie.

Me too. I've never seen the live musical, and was psyched when I saw the ad for the movie!

They barely even indicated it was a musical. I am just not thrilled. I don't think I can see it. I have seen the stage show 8 times, but this just isn't working for me :-(

I've seen the touring Broadway show twice. I have the music on my phone and listen often. I can't wait to see the movie!

Warner did the same thing with Wonka, and Paramount sort of did the same with Mean Girls. Movie Musicals don’t always sell as well at the box office.

Ditto to both, those are my two biggest issues. It doesn't need two part, at all. It's going to be a lot of new filler. And I don't like her either, I don't know why, I just dont.

I couldn't believe the way they marketed Mean Girls. It was literally Mean Girls the musical, and they left all of it out of the ads, and off the posters. They got a fair amount of backlash because of it.
Wicked is 100 musical, and I don't know that they were trying to hide that, it was just an observation that I noticed.

This movie has been in development hell for over a decade. I don't have high hopes for this one. It's already a bad sign that it's not being explicitly advertised as a musical.
