We generally request a 3rd floor room facing a pool or courtyard. We've usually been granted our request. We had a parking lot view once and they were able to switch us the next day. We like the third floor view as it's not that noisy, yet you still get a good "Disney" view!!
With a preferred room, you should get Fantasia. Overall, the walkways at the All-stars keep most guests away from the guest rooms unless they happen to be in that building itself. Staying on the third floor avoids noises of kids running above you. Even if you face a pool, we have found the rooms very well insulated from outside sound.
The only buildings at ASMo I don't like are the Might Ducks as they're so far from the main building and I don't like the theming that well. Herbie is a little far as well, but I enjoy the walk to the main building through Fantasia.
The kids of course like Toy Story the best.
We'll be there in June! This will be our third stay at the All-stars. For our family of 5, we really enjoy it as we can get two rooms for less than a Deluxe and just a little more than a moderate. Two rooms comes in handy as the kids don't have to share a bed and we get two TV's, two bathrooms, etc.
We've stayed in all the different categories of hotels at Disney and when the entire family goes, we usually do the All-stars or Pop. We tried the Poly last time but it was just too hectic being in the same room.
