What is it about Disney that keeps you coming back?

Disney for us used to be the trip where we could simply make the decision to go and once we were there it was nothing but fun for everyone no matter which way we decided to wander. Now that it's plan, plan, plan & hope that nothing occurs in the meantime to disrupt your planning, leaving nothing left to do but wander through cranky crowds of people looking at the same merchandise in every shop we aren't up for WDW anymore. With Star Wars and the certain crowds to come about to change DLR as well I don't see us back until grandkids come along.

Its the magic that makes me go back year after year. So much to do, no trip is the same....I love the food (I always go during F&W), i love the atmosphere, im truly disney obsessed. Its a place where i can be a kid again and escape from reality. You never get bored. It makes me really happy!

What is it about Disney that once it gets in your blood you keep wanting to come back? is it the familiarity? the service? the ease of planning? or is it mass hypnosis? What makes this place so much more in the forefront of vacation planning?

For me it's the total immersion - the "Disney Bubble" as it's called. Once we're there (actually, once the plane takes off from here) I'm on vacation - it's all about family time, and it feels like the rest of the world doesn't exist.

This is what keeps me coming back. Disney feels like an escape from reality to me. It has a certain magic that other amusement parks lack. The rides and shows are well done. For the most part it’s well kept and the cast members are great. I like the food options. I know ticket prices keep rising, but a whole day at Disneyland is cheaper than a 3 hour Broadway show or big name concert.

There’s plenty of other places I enjoy vacationing, but nothing calls to me like Disney. I have to go every 1-2 years. I can’t wait until we get our next AP.

Not so much that its Disney, but that we have had excellent and fun vacations while we were there.

One trip stands out, though. Our first trip as a family was in late Feb 2016. My wife and I had each been to WDW in the past before we were married, and I had been to DL many times when I was younger. This was our first trip that we were taking as a family. But even more so, we were celebrating. For several years before that trip, I had a horrible job. High stress, poor management, every bad thing you could ask for. Two of my coworkers had recently had heart attacks, and my wife was afraid I was going to be number 3. I had tried to get out for years after realizing I couldn't change things, but the good jobs were few and far between and the ones that I did find were either short term, much lower pay, poor benefits or no better than what I had.

The day before we had left on that trip, I accepted a final offer on a new, permanent job. I had tried to get that job for almost two years, and finally got it. I knew that after we went to WDW, I was going to go back to work and drop my two week notice. Knowing that I was escaping from a bad job made that Disney trip even so much better!

I keep going back for the same reasons as all of you. As I tell the people I work with who say there are other places to go, "find me a place where I can feel young and happy" and I'll go there.

Our first real vacation with our daughter's when they were 5 and 6 was at Disney. The magic for them as small children was amazing and we have the best memories. We can never replicate that first time but we come pretty close every time we go. The rides, food, shopping, relaxing all in one place is awesome. We feel that way about Disney cruising as well!

Go to Rome. I love Disney and try to get down there at least once a year but there is no way it would be my only trip each year. I am in a position now (young son at home) where international travel will be less of an option than it would be otherwise for a few more years but if I was staring at a trip to Italy or Disney for the 12 time and they were around the same price and I would go to Italy.

The ability to see other parts of the world really is a luxury that anyone who can should take advantage of in my opinion.

I got extremely ill with our first trip and I'm itching to go back. I know planning a 2nd time around won't be as overwhelming as the first. The kids 14, 12, had a blast! DH liked the ease of everything, especially no driving, where it was a truly relaxing trip for him although we did stuff.

Last time I went to Hollywood Studios it was the day after a 24h flu. Tower of Terror 2x before 50's Prime time.

It's always hard to put into words exactly why I love going to Disney, but domo responded to a thread I had started about traveling solo that really explained it. He said, "I just love how you can march into a place of wonder and magic and just lose yourself in the magic." And that really is true with me. I can truly lose myself in the magic. It also helps that I really enjoy theme parks. I love the ambiance, decor and the story(ies) they tell through the different lands and rides.

I can't say I ever feel that lost in the magic while at Disney or forget I'm still in the real world that has criminals and illness and everything else. It is a very immersive experience though and if you choose to not leave property, turn on the TV, or check in on the news it is an easier place than most to forget about the world around you.

I think GreatLakes hit upon it: You don't forget you're in the real world, but unless you turn on the TV, or the internet to read news, it's easy to lose oneself.
