Our school district required a financial course the year after my DD25 graduated. I insisted that she take one in college. I think it has helped because she is very frugal. FWIW, we started a Roth IRA for her when she started working as a teen. We matched her salary as a gift to her until she finally hit the maximum and now we contribute the maximum to her account. We've started her off early and I hope that once she graduates from grad school and gets a real job she'll pick up where we leave off.
Sounds like you set her up well! That's great parenting they'll thank you later in life...if not already lol

I'll let @FoxC63 confirm, but as she reported previously - she is retiring from her duties owning the Gift Card Thread. Thank you again for all of the hard work that you've put into this thread over the last 4 years!

We tried to find some different alternatives to keep this thread alive - but settled on posting a new thread.

The new thread is still being stood up - but over the next few days, I will copy things over to the other thread and it will be maintained by a group of us. We're still looking for volunteers, so if someone is interested please DM me or the group of us that are already maintaining the thread.

https://www.disboards.com/threads/new-disney-gift-card-deals-and-more.3952573

The focus of the first posts will shift a little bit to focus primarily on Disney Gift Cards and travel related gift card deals. This shouldn't discourage you from sharing any gift card deals you find that might be beneficial to others - we just may not add every deal to the front page.

Feel free to start posting any deals you find in the new thread! Thanks everyone for your help and support.

Yes, I anticipate it will be locked once the new thread is up and running at 100%. There's no need for two of the same threads.

What's needed are more volunteers.

So my 7 day park Hopper plus ticket that I bought via Viator is only valued at $642.23 according to the cast member I just spoke to about upgrading to the Sorcerer's Pass.:scared: The ticket is $729 on Disney's website...I paid $620 with the 15% off Viator code. So if what the first cast member says is true (and the purchase doesn't track on RMN) then it isn't a good idea to buy tickets via Viator to then upgrade.
Learn from my mistake! (and also don't tell my husband my math was wrong...I did some serious Disney math to make It seem like I needed an annual pass instead of the $99/day 4 park ticket:crazy:). Off to book more vacations so I can justify this purchase!
The first time I called, it was Disney Ticketing who helped me and gave me the above info. Today I called and they said Member Services had to help me. So I called DVC, and this time was given an upgrade price of $439.57 for Sorcerer's Pass plus Memory Maker. Which means I was given about $730sih towards the upgrade. ($999 Sorcerer Pass, plus $99 Memory Maker, plus tax I figured would be around $1175ish).
I'm happy with my end result:cutie:

I know/am surrounded by people from all walks of life and the one constant is that poor people and middle class people and even upper middle class people all spend way more than they should/have. Across the board people are financially illiterate. I wish public schools would have mandatory courses on it throughout the country. If I ever talk to a teen or someone looking to get their first job I yell ROTH IRA into their faces and they look at me like I'm nuts. A bit of an exaggeration but really I tell young people if you start saving and investing from now you'll be the rich friend later in life and all your friends will wish they did what you did. It's hard to have that foresight when young...unless you come from a financially literate family...like the basis of that book Rich Dad, Poor Dad.
When my patients tell me they got their first job, I start drilling into them they need a Roth IRA. Come for the teeth cleaning, stay for the financial advice!
4 of my kids now have IRAs. The fifth one will hopefully start reffing soccer games this year so she can also open one (her twin sister was unexpectedly pulled into a game to ref late last season, so that got her $15 in income so she could contribute). My 14 year old gets $45/ game, so in a weekend he can make some good money! We match whatever each kid puts in, up to $500 a year.

Roth IRAs are great for younger income earners who have not yet climbed into higher tax brackets. I'd recommend that for those who work for companies that offer Mega Backdoor Roth 401K Conversion to take advantage. In addition to maxing out on $23K pre-tax 401K, you can contribute additional (up to $46K) after-tax to desginated Roth 401K to realize maximum life-long tax savings by starting out young. There is no income limit to participate in this type of Roth 401K. If you are 50 or over, you can sock away up to $76.5K ($23K pre-tax 401K and $53.5K after-tax) in 2024. Key is to find out if your employer offers this. It is not well known and definitely not something I could take advantage when I was in the labor force over 10 years ago. I just helped my daughter whose employer does offer it set one up. It is a bit complicated but the Company HR folks can help. Here's an article that gives a brief overview https://www.investopedia.com/mega-backdoor-roth-401-k-conversion-5210877
