Tip for car services?

Looking for some input on what to tip when using a private car service. I’ve always done a few dollars per bag, but at least $10 for exceptional service because it’s normally just myself and one bag. I’ve booked Tiffany for the first time next month. The invoice says “gratuity 20%”. I didn’t pay that in advance, but are they suggesting 20% of the total cost? That would be $20. I’m fine with giving whatever is appropriate but just want to check what others do in case I’m way off.

That’s what we tip for car service, but we have two people and two bags and two backpacks.

We’ve always tipped 20% total… 10% each way. I think the current rate is $180 round trip, We tip $20 each way, because we often have different drivers on each leg. Giving a 20 is easier for us, I’m not messing with a 5, 10 & singles to make $18 exactly. It’s just 2 of us & 2 bags usually. Personally I think that’s appropriate, the driver is taking at least 45 minutes to an hour with us between waiting for our flight, luggage & driving to the resort. A few dollars per bag is what is traditional for bell services or the sky cap at the airport. A private car service is more involved IMO & calls for a better gratuity.

In 2022, I used FL Tours.

When the driver met me at baggage claim, the first thing he did was hand me a receipt which showed:
“$110 + TIP 22”

I thought that was really tacky.

And if I had previously contemplated tipping him more, that would have been enough to make me forget about it.

A lot of car services nationwide require a 20% tip these days; many even make you prepay it upon booking alongside the fare. Some just roll it into the total price, like Mears. I think a big part of why we’re even seeing this question here on the DISboards is that many people who travel to WDW haven’t necessarily used car services anywhere else, as it tends to be a business travel thing in other parts of the country.

It would make more sense to me if they just raised their price 20% and then indicated 'tipping is not required'. At a restaurant, I don't pay the tip BEFORE the meal is served. Always looked at tipping as something extra where the quality of service was above average or even exceptional. Adding a mandatory surcharge to my bill isn't what I would categorize as a tip.

I can still recall the Disney DME had a sign that indicated 'tipping is permitted for exceptional service'.

I gave a bit more than that, because the driver was excellent. I know other services are preferred by others, but I just wanted this Disney trip to be easy, and it was!

Thank you all for the feedback! I used a different service last trip and had a bad experience so just wanted to get ideas. I’ll plan for atleast $20 each way and more if needed.
$20 will be fine unless you feel something exceptionally good happened. I just hand the driver the cash after getting our bags, never had an issue with that part of the trip.

I do $20-$25 each way, depending on how helpful they are.

I tipped $40 when they picked us up at the airport because he met us at the luggage carousel and helped get our bags out to the truck. There was 4 of us and 6 bags. I think I tipped $30 on the way back.

They are required to meet you at the luggage carousel area under MCO regulations.

They do not have to help with your bags from there but most do.

I tip $30 each way and the fare is $125 each way. This is assuming I get excellent service which I have always gotten from the company I use.

I am using a private transport tomorrow when I arrive. Family of 4. It’s $120 for one way. We need to add 2 car seats on, which are $5 each. We are also getting a stroller from the company which is $120 for the week. When we tip our driver, should we base our 20%ish tip on the $130 for the ride/car seats or the $250 including the stroller? I can’t imagine we would tip for the cost of the stroller rental too right?

Absolutely just for the ride.
