Here's the question, prompted by a discussion last week with all the teenagers heading to homecoming.

Is it trashy to wear thong underwear with a dress?

My personal opinion is YES! I think you should wear full coverage underwear under a skirt or dress.

But, I thought I'd post a poll as perhaps I'm old fashioned in my views and this is now "in" or acceptable.

By the way, my DD16 wore "boyshort" type underwear under her dress but many, many of the girls wore their thongs with their dress. And these are cocktail type dresses, not long gowns.

Anyway, your vote please...

I'm not quite sure when butt floss is appropriate....I don't get the whole intentional wedgie thing.

As long as I don't have to see what's under there, I don't care.

That's just the point....I'm thinking with these short dresses and lots of dancing going on.....it's likely you will get to see what's under there.

Here homecoming is a little different. It's football, yes a dance, but most are wearing jeans.

The homecoming game is the day before and then the dance the next night. So yes, shorts/jeans and t-shirts for the game but formal/dressy wear for the dance the next night.

Around here the homecoming dance is the night before the football game and everyone just wear jeans....

but to answer the poll question - I don't think a thong is any more trashy under a dress than under anything else. The underwear don't make the girl.

I don't think thong underwear is any more or any less trashy, however, the girl should have someone observe her walking from behind to determine if the choice of underwear actually is appropriate with the dress. Some dresses and thong underwear just don't work.

how do you know if someone is wearing a thong under the dress or not? I'd rather it be under a dress than coming out someones jeans.

I'm inclined to guess that the kind of person who would wear a dress short enough to practically plan to show cheek-age, wants her wedgie to be seen.

If panty lines are going to be visible, then yes I think it's appropriate.

Isn't that the truth. I was waiting for the streetcar the other day and this woman in line had on one of those very, very thin clingy knit dresses. Her choice of undies could not have been more apparent if she'd worn them on the outside. Not a pretty sight.

My uncle married a 53 year old woman who wore a thong to their wedding! :rotfl: ...... and that was MILD for what came later that night at the reception!!!! :rotfl2:

Another woman I saw had on a knit dress but it wasn't very clingy in any place except where you don't want it to be.

If a casual onlooker can tell what your underwear looks like, your dress is inappropraite.

Trashy?? God no. Appropriate? Not for teenagers. Thongs are there to get rid of panty lines, if i have a dress on, especially formal, I will definitely have on a thong. And I too wore one to my wedding but I assure you no one knew except my mother (who helped me pick it out) and my exhusband.

Not sure why it would ever be considered trashy. I think trashy is wearing a thong that is VISIBLE in jeans. That's gross.

depends on the dress. if panty lines are going to be visible, i would (and have ;) ) worn a thong.

People, if panty lines are going to be visible in a dress? Thong lines are going to be just as visible.

I've given up the flight against VPL. I do not care anymore. In fact I PREFER to see panty lines down where panty lines should be, b/c I ignore those. But if there are NO panty lines, or if you can see the lines of that thong, then I'm thinking about their underwear, and I don't like thinking about other peoples' underwear!!!!!!

not necessarily true. regular bikini cuts tend to be bulkier and depending on how tight the dress it, they are way more visible on the ahem, posterior region than thongs. at least that's been my experience.
