The Running Thread --2025

QOTD: What is one thing that you could either stop doing or start doing that would have a huge positive impact for your health/running goals?

ATTQOTD: I think if I could cut out soft drinks I have daily, sometimes two a day, I could potentially see some good benefits from that. Also, if they would stop putting skittles in the vending machine at work that would be great! Im a sucker for skittles!! Not a big chip guy, but the darn skittles call my name lol. Or maybe its beer... But thats not a daily thing, more like a Saturday post run deal... occasionally 1-2 on a Friday. Beer is probably worse, but those IPA's are so tasty!!

Has anyone been following the World Marathon Challenge? The woman whoā€™s come in first the last few races is an ultra runner from Spain and has been finishing in the 3:10-3:20 range. Insane.
No, but I just looked this up and it's wild.
Do you have a preferred way of following? I just found their results page.

Iā€™m mostly following them on instagram! The official account posts updates. Thereā€™s also a guy doing it on a sponsorship, Wyatt Moss, posting videos but on a delay.

I followed it back when RD runner Michael Gabriel was doing it, and it sounded . . . Chintzy. Like you would travel to a new continent, and then do a whole bunch of short out-and-back loops, hop onto a plane and do it all over again. All to earn the most generic, low-effort medal ever.

anybody who wants to travel for a short race! The LAKE HARTWELL DAM RUN is on!!!! The project to refurbish and replace the turbines has been postponed at least until next year. Thanks to the government freezing spending ??? Regardless, the 5k and 10k races will go on as usual, and DH is race director. Registration will be up on RunSignup.com in a few days.
Hooray! Count me in! After the DL half I determined I canā€™t be ready for a ten mile POT for the Broad street, so off to Hartwell Iā€™ll go!

I am! But I am following Wyatt Moss. He did 50 marathons ā€”one in each state last year. Heā€™s 23 years old and sending out such a great message to those Gen Zers. Heā€™s not fast but watching him endure the schedule while being amazed at the opportunity is pretty great.

I followed it that year, too. I thought it sounded amazing! But also crazy.

I had the opportunity to work part of the 1996 Summer Olympics here in Atlanta in the

When we were still in Utah, one of my favorite
As the crow flies I live about a half mile from the Utah Olympic Park. One of my 6 mile loops actually goes through the road down the sliding sports run. They are also holding the boarder/skier-cross there in 2034 as well as snowboard parallel giant slalom. Stoked, but not stoked for the traffic.

What I think will be really cool, is ski and snowboard big air is gonna be set up in downtown SLC

ATTQOTD:
Just getting my nutrition down generally. I'm not so far off, although I do drink a few Diet Cokes a day. I was on a pretty good regimen, and I think my running saw real benefits, but It was too strict to keep up and more and more processed foods have been creeping in. I don't feel tired, and I'm not putting on a ton of weight or anything, but I just don't feel like the motor is running as cleanly somehow.

ATTQOTD: I wish I knew what I needed to stop doing to keep my neck issue away, but that's not really going to happen--age takes its toll and discs degenerate. Of course, I could say that about all the random injuries that crop up where I just say "but how did this happen?"

As for things to do, I think my answer will always be strength training, in the noble, but futile quest to shed the extra pounds that slowly add themselves on. Although given that I have done more of that in this year so far, I am partly convinced it relates to my neck issue, so yeah. My diet is reasonable, and I refuse to give up life's small pleasures of one oreo or square of chocolate after lunch and dinner.

I am grateful I live a life taking no meds (so far) and with no truly nasty chronic issues to deal with.

ATTQOTD: Iā€™m sure thereā€™s plenty I could do to improve my running: eat better, sleep longer, stretch more, strength train more, run more days per week, etc etc. But as a hobbyist thereā€™s only so much Iā€™m willing to do to improve. I donā€™t drink much soda, and Iā€™m not willing to cut out my 1-2 cans of Coke per day. Nor am I willing to cut out snacks I enjoy. But I do try to eat enough protein and make sure Iā€™m fueled well for runs. I would love to get more sleep but work and a kid prohibit that!

The one thing I am trying to incorporate now is strength training. Iā€™m doing 3 times per week about 20-30 minutes at home, which isnā€™t a lot but fits in with my schedule and I watch TV while doing it so hopefully the habit will stick. It better help, because I hate it! lol.

ATTQOTD: While my diet isn't terrible I know that would probably be the area that I could improve the most (not just cutting out beer!)

I also need to be better at not skipping strength training days. I'm pretty good at not skipping a run when I'm in training but I don't think I treat the strength training as seriously.
