If I can get back to running and race ready by then, it'll certainly be a strong consideration! It gets hard to find races here from end of April on and I'm going to want to find a race before summer to get some confidence back!

You can run slow with me. Though I am hoping to try and give a little push in the race. Of course I am also trying to move around a Disney trip too.

I call them doggypalooza.
This reminds me...our house is on the edge of the transition from residential to commercial. We live about half a block from a dog training academy. Across the street from the dog training academy is a public parking lot that is usually not very busy. It's common to walk by and see dog/owner pairs spaced out throughout the lot all waiting to practice whatever the command is for the day when the trainer says go. We get "parades" of dogs and owners walking up and down the block practicing their various disciplines. It's pretty amusing, especially when you see an array of dogs that range from the "overachievers" to the "slackers" to the "ADHD" pups. :)

While I do watch Boston (since one of our "local" channels is from there) and follow the NY marathon, the Olympics are my jam. I was always into them as a kid since I was a competitive swimmer and had friends who were gymnasts, but experiencing them in person in SLC in 2002 took things to a whole new level. I watch as much as I can of both winter and summer games, and I also love that there's a way to get all the feeds live now.
I had the opportunity to work part of the 1996 Summer Olympics here in Atlanta in the media center and driving people around. But as much as I prefer warmer weather, many of my favorite events are winter Olympics, particularly the sliding competitions. I took my son up to Lake Placid a few years back and one of the highlights was going down the original bobsled track there. It was on wheels, because it was summer, but it was still a bobsled run. (and I know that it is correctly bobsleigh, but this is what voice to text is giving me.) I would love to go back in the winter and go down there new track, on ice. That would be so awesome.
One interesting thing from the 96 Olympics was going to watch women’s field hockey and talking to the American team’s coaches and some of their players who were sitting behind us watching the matches occurring before them. Several hours later, we are in the Varsity to get some food, and the games are being replayed on TV, and there is our American team watching themselves. We recognized them, and they remembered us, so we offered our congratulations and then went on our way.

Completely OT, but does anyone have experience with flights landing really near the rental car counter closure times? Like is a flight that lands at 1140pm when the rental car counter closes at midnight a terrible idea? Specifically Sarasota/Bradenton FL airport.

I have no experience with this but I do have experience flying and it always takes more than a few minutes to get off the plane after landing... I personally would not feel comfortable with this timing!

Most car rental agencies at smaller airports will have some way to pick up or drop off a car after hours. I've flown in places where they literally left the keys on the counter! If they are in a secure lot, they'll often leave a sign with the space number and the keys in the vehicle. It's rare that the counter being closed would mean you couldn't get the car at all, but it might be worth calling the customer service line to ask.

this is 100% where DH is at with things.

But. It's like 4k-something points per person to fly in here and land at 1140 with a 1hr drive to my parents'. Tampa is 5.5k-ish points per person, lands at 12:35, and is a TWO hour drive to my parents. And Ft. Meyers is 8.8k-ish points, lands at 1040, with an hour drive to my parents. And I desperately want this 1140 flight to work because all 5 of us flying for under 50k miles? For spring break?! DH is pushing Tampa because of the point spread with Ft. Meyers, but the rental cars are more expensive there. *sigh* I've had about 20 tabs open looking at things this morning trying to make the math do what I want.

The millennial in me just had a panic attack at the thought of having to *call* CS. It won't let me book a car for pickup at all during the "off" hours. 11:30 pickup? Yes. (Flight lands at 11:40 + deplaning time) Midnight? No.

I still think you're good. It should ask you to enter your flight info when you make the reservation, and whomever is managing the desk that night will track the last flight in their reservation system to keep the desk open. (Within reason -- if you're 2 hours late I wouldn't count on it.)

I hate calling anyone too, but in this case it might be worth it just to resolve the question. Or search reddit. LOL

Edit to add: Check FlyerTalk! Their forums are pretty comprehensive and there's probably a thread on that airport.
