Day 6 - Part 4
We left the Maharajah Jungle Trek at about 11 o’clock and started hoofing it through Asia in order to catch the 11:30 showing of the “Finding Nemo – the Musical”. This was a show we’d never seen before, so it was on the short list of things we really wanted to make sure we accomplished at Animal Kingdom this year.
As I turned the corner, I just couldn’t resist taking yet another picture of Everest. (Actually, there were a couple more also, but I like this one the best.)
As we walked toward Everest, through the Anandapur area, I noticed some familiar sitar music. That means it had to be the Beatles, because I only know a handful of tunes played on the sitar, and coincidentally they’re all by the Beatles. (I’m a huge Beatles fan, by the way.) It was “Within You Without You”, George Harrison’s only song on the Sgt. Pepper album. Perhaps you remember it:
“We were talking,
about the space between us all
and the people
who hide themselves behind a wall
of illusion.
Never glimpse the truth
then it’s far too late
when they pass away”
I’m not going to follow George down the path to Eastern Mysticism, but I love some of his music. Treat yourself to his double album “All Things Must Pass” sometime. He put it out right after the Beatles broke up and it’s the backlog of stuff he’d written that never made it onto a Beatles record. It’s really good.
Well, I seem to have gotten off-topic. But suffice it to say that I was kind of surprised to hear a Beatles tune in Disney, what with copyrights and licensing issues and all. But since they needed some sitar music, where else would they look?
We arrived at the Nemo theater and the line was pretty long, but had just started moving into the building so we joined in and shuffled along.
We found some seats in the middle section, but pretty far back. But that was okay…in fact, some people say those seats are better because you don’t notice the puppeteer’s faces so much and it helps you to ignore them and focus on the show.
While we waited we broke out some chex mix and carrot sticks that we had packed. Shhh. Don’t tell anyone.
SPOILER ALERT
I didn’t title this chapter “So many Nemo pictures, it’s almost a video” for nothing. If you haven’t seen it yet, and want to experience it completely fresh on your next visit to Animal Kingdom, turn back now. You can rejoin us in my next chapter, where I ruin the safari for you, with a bunch more pictures.
I think I took a lot of pictures because it was actually kind of challenging taking pictures in there. It was a little dark (for picture-taking, don’t worry -- little kids won’t be scared) and it was kind of hard to get good, unblurry pictures.
Still with me? Okay. I affixed the zoom lens on the camera and settled in.
Marlin and Nemo.
Mr. Ray. I thought this puppet/bicycle was way cool.
Marlin meets Dory.
Bruce and his million dollar smile.
Nemo in the fishtank.
I loved it in the movie when I heard the “mountain” in the fishtank was called Mt. Wannahockaloogie. I wondered if one of the writers had heard that joke in their youth, like at summer camp or something.
Here’s Gill.
Back to Dory and Marlin
Dory being crazy.
The school of fish.
Forming the Sydney Opera House. (I always have to tell Judy “I’ve been there”. It drives her crazy because she really wants to go to Australia someday.)
And the arrow.
