SSR Lovers and Owners Part 4

Fantastic thread with TONS of info! Thanks, guys. I have been considering DVC purchase, but the tough part is choosing my home resort. Given the lower buy-in and maintenance fees, SSR is a no brainer. Also, i like being close to DS. Is it crazy difficult to book other resorts at the 7 month mark? That’s the one thing holding me back.
as PP have said,,,comes down to time and room size.....we only have SSR points and love staying there....but we have booked Aulani, DGC,HH,AKL,Poly,BLT,BC,RIV and are staying at Vero and BW boardwalk view this coming March. They have always been a mix of studios and 1 bdrm,,,so being flexable is key.
Big holiday dates will be harder,,but that is for everyone who doesnt have home resort status.

I will be staying in a 3-bedroom Grand Villa over the holidays.
1. Has anyone used Costco for food delivery?
2. What type of coffee maker is in these units?
Thanks :)

The studios and 1 and 2 bedrooms had basket filter full size pots put in when they did the renovations during and after Covid.

It is always possible that if one broke, Disney would replace it with something different they had on hand.

The grand villas I assume are the same but I don’t know first hand.

I have not used Costco delivery at WDW, sorry.

We were in a GV in Sept/October. Coffee maker was the Duo with pot and K-Cup

I'm going to be staying at Saratoga Springs for the first time next year. I have a preferred studio and I'm renting a car. I'm not sure where to request.

Do you prefer to be near Disney Springs or the main pool and dining at SSR? We like being near the Congress Park pool. The views are lovely and the walk is short to DS.

I don't really care about the pool, but if the walk is still short to Disney Springs, maybe I'd like to be close to the dining as well. What is the parking situation like?

Every preferred section building has parking immediately outside of it, such as this: IMG_0447.jpeg

None of the rooms in Congress Park overlook parking. About 15% of the rooms in The Springs overlook a small amount of parking (amongst other things), on the south ends of 2 of the buildings.

Oh and it’s a bit either or. The Springs is close to the resort dining but is like a 9-10 minute walk to Disney Springs (or there is a boat launch from behind the main building). Congress park, especially the two easternmost buildings, is VERY close to Disney Springs, like a 2 minute walk from the closest few rooms, but is more like a 7-8 minute walk to the main SSR building.

I don't know if this is still occurring, but the one time we stayed in the Congress Park building with the shortest walk to Disney Springs we found that other guests were using our parking area for the shorter walk. It made finding parking for our rental close to our villa a challenge. The opposite end of Congress Park was wide open for parking.

Our most recent trip we stayed in The Springs buildings closest to the little bridge (1 bedroom, villa 3145).

This picture shows our location relative to the Carriage House and the walking path to Disney Springs. 1) Carriage House, 2) our villa location, 3) path to Disney Springs.

Since parking was mentioned, that brings up a question-how convenient is parking at SSR compared to OKW? And how does the parking compare to AKL Jambo, not Kidani?

I’d say parking is better at SSR overall; some of the OKW buildings don’t have parking immediately outside the building (but most do).

Or maybe I’ll say it like this: you can get a room with much more convenient parking at OKW than any room at SSR has but also a room with much less convenient parking.

Jambo has a lot and a very large building to walk through and IMO is worse than either of the others for parking.

We are SSR owners as of 4/2023 and have not yet stayed at our home resort! Considering it for a Nov 2024 trip. We are not Disney Springs people and generally budget for Minnie Vans occasionally during our stays, so location for bus transportation or proximity to Disney Springs is less important to us. Proximity to the main check in area and/or the feature pools is more important to us. Based on that, which building would we want to request for Preferred? Which would we want to request for Standard? Thanks for any insight you can provide. Thinking The Springs for Preferred or Grandstand for Standard. Looking forward to our first stay!

I'd also add Paddock in for Standard. It's the middle bus stop, but it has its own feature pool w/slide as well as a quick service and mug refill at the Paddock Pool. Additionally, it is a quick walk over the bridge to get to the Carriage House. For standard, we always request Paddock, near pool.

Also, you need to learn to use the park buses as an internal bus system. For instance, if you want to go to the carriage house, you can walk, or you can just hop on any park bus, and get off at the Springs stop (which is the 2nd stop after the Paddock).

This is great advice. Thank you! I didn't realize how close Paddock was to the Carriage House, or that it had its own feature pool. Noted! I think we'll go with this for our request. Any other tips for me? Thank you again for the advice!

I second the "Paddock, near pool request!" That's what we have always done and gotten. However, last trip we had a room that smelled very musty and had part of the ceiling sagging. I called maintenance right away and they took the room out of service. I guess the air conditioning above us was leaking or something. We wanted to stay near the Paddock since my parents also had a room there, but there was nothing left in that section. They moved us to the Carousel, the building closest to the Carousel bus stop, which is actually near some of the Paddock buildings. At first, I was not happy. I assumed the Carousel was an inferior section 🤣....but to my surprise, our view was gorgeous and the walk couldn't have been easier to the bus stop.
People always complain about how big Saratoga is compared to some of the other resorts, but we have never found the walk around the resort to be difficult at all. Our kids love swimming at all of the different pools and we frequently walk from Disney Springs back to our room. Saratoga is the best kept secret. Don't tell too many people how great it is! I like how quiet it is and how fast we can get food at the Artist's Palette.

thank you!!! this is all super helpful to read. I was considering trying to swap out at 7 months but now leaning towards letting it roll at SSR and enjoying all the resort has to offer.

We agree with all of this! This has been our experience, too!
